Draft targets: Overperforming vs underperforming

We take a look at the players you should be looking to trade or pick up cheaply in NRL SuperCoach Draft.

Draft Breakdown

It’s a big week in SuperCoach this week after a bunch of injuries.

If you are sitting comfortably at the top end of the ladder it’s a good move to trade low for injured players, even if it hurts your short-term results.

UNDERPERFORMING PLAYERS

Tom Trbojevic (FLB)

Turbo is facing 6-8 weeks on the sideline after tearing his hamstring last week.

If you are sitting comfortably on your ladder or confident you can make finals, you need to make a play at Turbo unless you own Teddy or Ponga.

Manly’s matchups during Draft finals are second to none – facing the Tigers, Bulldogs, Titans and Warriors.

Turbo is a slight risk but with those matchups he could carry you to a Draft premiership.

In one of my leagues, someone has already traded Lolo and Lomax for Turbo and Kenny Bromwich.

Jake Friend (HOK)

Friend is averaging 56PPG in an explosive Roosters side.

The last two games coach Trent Robinson has named Verrills at 14 but dropped him for Aubusson an hour before kick-off.

This means Friend is now playing 80 minutes at hooker and it looks to be the game plan going forward for the Roosters.

His workload and scores will increase with more time on the field.

Daly Cherry-Evans (HFB)

DCE has been underwhelming so far in 2020, averaging 45PPG.

Between 2017 and 2019 he averaged 62PPG consistently each year.

It is a bit worrying that Walker and Croker (in the last game) have taken a lot of the kicks close to the line.

However, Manly’s main game plan has essentially been to give the ball to Turbo on attacking plays.

If Manly are to score points without Turbo, DCE will need to be heavily involved.

Garrick has also been goal kicking at an underwhelming 62.5% this year. I don’t believe Garrick would ever lose the kicking duties but there is the smallest of chances that DCE regains the tee in the future.

As with Turbo, Manly’s matchups are exceptional for draft finals.

OVERPERFORMING PLAYERS

Braidon Burns (CTW)

Burns was an underperforming player prior to week 3 and responded with a 54PPG average over the last four games.

Unfortunately, he looks very likely to lose his spot to James Roberts mainly because of his poor defence and Campbell Graham’s great form.

Now is the time to offload him before he gets dropped.

Jeremy Marshall-King (HOK)

JMK has been a solid hooking option, averaging 49PPG consistently.

He isn’t an exciting option but has gotten owners high 40s in base stats.

Unfortunately, it looks like Pay has decided to reduce his minutes choosing to sub him out for Holland last week and likely Cogger this weekend.

Pay will change this again throughout the year but you have probably got the most out of JMK for now.
