Weekly Wrap: Round 10 highs, lows and shocks

Round 10 is in the books and it was another mammoth weekend for SuperCoaches.

Many were left wanting after Thursday’s Teddy ‘failure’ though for any who went with the straight captain option.

It’s a high bar when 77 Is a failure but we all expected a lot more.

With 10 rounds in and 10 to go, all teams should be shaping up okay with a look to the finals for any of those playing head-to-head.

It’s a good time to jump in and give the podcast a listen if you don’t already with some awesome insight into trades and players to watch.

I’m astounded though that after back-to-back 1400s, including 1482 this week, I’m yet to appear on the poddy. A petition through change.org will be hitting your inboxes soon.

Roosters v Raiders 

We were all expecting another Teddy masterclass, but someone forgot to tell the Raiders!

They were enormous taking down the premiership heavyweights and in doing so shut down Tedesco pretty well.

He managed 77 still but the night belonged to Josh Papalii who barrelled and barged his way through the Roosters defence.

He finished the night with 82 not out. Big Papa was unlucky not to hit 100 and get his name on the SCG honours board. 

Angus Crichton succumbed to a knee injury and could miss a couple weeks. He may be a hold if it’s short term though, but early signs aren’t promising.

Storm v Titans

The poor Titans were never going to be able to match Melbourne here!

The welcome return of Cam Munster was on show as he managed 91 in his first game back from injury, whilst Ryan Papenhuyzen was again disappointing as many pulled the trigger to get him in over Ponga and were frustrated as he finished with only 34 points.

Cam Smith is making the hooking position very interesting with Cook and Grant going so well. His hairline says 40 but his ball playing ability says late 20s. He’s a good POD move if you can afford him.

Tigers v Broncos

I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog day when I keep writing about how bad the Broncos are going!

Haas and Carrigan are the only reason to tune into their games as they finished with 81 and 72 respectively.

It was a Tigers massacre and whenever there is a Tigers carve up there tends to be one man in the thick of it – Harry Grant!

He is turning into a favourite out there at Leichhardt, so much so the crowd were chanting his name like he had caught the golden snitch.

If you still have Luciano Leilua well done, if you were smart enough to play him and not leave him on your bench even better!

He alongside a host of other Tigers were huge. Leilua finished with 135 points, Billy Walters with 93 and the old Benji was up to his tricks again running in 101 points.

Madge Maguire has some thinking to do to when working out his halves morning forward!

Dragons v Bulldogs 

You would have been forgiven for flicking over to the races whilst this one was on. Only Lomax and McInnes were Supercoach relevant here.

McInnes’ move to lock seems to have lessened his output. Owners will be hoping for some attacking stats in the coming weeks otherwise he may be a sell.

The Dogs showed some fight but just don’t know how to win. The number one priority for Trent Barrett when he gets there will be how to catch a football. Part 1 of 8.

Rabbitohs v Knights

I must say, compliments to the Chef! Damien Cook is back to his SuperCoach best!

He owned the second half scoring a double to top the night with 137 points and nearly sparking a Rabbitohs comeback.

It was looking like the return of Kayln Ponga in the first half as he hopped and skipped his way past the Rabbits edge defence as he and Best finally got back into the points with Best hitting 95 and Ponga 92.

The oranges at half time must have had something in them as the pair were relatively quiet in the second half.

With Ponga now dropping in price and a matchup against the Bulldogs next week you would be brave to leave him out.

Sea Eagles v Eels

Maika Sivo hello?? Are you out there?? The Fijian has flopped since his four try heroics a couple of weeks back and doesn’t seem to inject himself into games any more.

He was cut down by Brad “Hank Scorpio” Parker and may miss a couple weeks pending a scan on his knee.

This puts a real hole in the already depleted CTW position if he can’t get back to scoring well.

Gutherson got owners out of strife with a late try assist and has a pretty good run in the coming weeks if you can afford him.

Sharks v Warriors

After that performance you would be forgiven if all the Warriors jumped back on a plane and headed back to New Zealand.

There is no lack of effort, but they are just a side who can’t match it for 80 minutes. Tohu was quiet with 46 points, but with Jazz Tevaga back the pair seemed to share the tackling – and they do a lot of it.

Shaun Johnson starred for Cronulla with 119 with the gurus at SC Playbook spruiking SJ for the last few weeks on the podcast.

It pays to listen even if you have to spend an hour listening to the Spy rattle off his six trades for the week.

Sione Katoa bounced back with two tries for 96 points and looks a lock in the CTW if you can afford him. Owners would have been elated to see him retain the right wing spot outside SJ with Ronaldo Mulitalo’s return.

Don’t get him mixed up with the Sione Katoa from the Bulldogs though – it’s like making a trade through Wish.com.

Panthers v Cowboys

A number of head to head matches hinged on the final game of the round with popular SuperCoach players Yeo, Taumalolo, Koroisau and Cleary all playing.

Yeo and Taumalolo were solid without being spectacular, with Taumalolo possibly on the chopping block for many including myself.

With the Cowboys going so poorly it might be worth a thought to move him onto a gun elsewhere.

Many had the C on Cleary and with five seconds to go I can safely say we were all a little underwhelmed.

That was until he beat two would be tacklers and scored with two seconds to go which bumped his score from 71 to 110.

Any player scoring a junk time try in the dying seconds will be now known as ‘Doing a Cleary’.

Running the ball like that with a second to go I can only assume he is a secret SuperCoach fan and captained himself.

What other reason could there be for taking the line on when your six points clear with a second to go!?
