The SC Spy takes an in-depth look at the Strikers double game week options plus captaincy selections in Round 3.
Captain's ChallengeTroops,
Tell you what I came into Round 2 full of confidence and a stack of what I thought were quality guys who had two games and came out the other side with an absolutely ordinary week considering the amount of chances I had!
I opted for a batsmen heavy approach and subsequent batting collapses galore and rain in the last match meant I couldn’t get the huge total I was after to set myself up (finished with 920 which was juuust okay).
But that’s cricket, so let’s get onto Round 3.
It’s an early start on Saturday so get your sides set nice and early before checking team lists if you can around 10:30am (NSW time).
I’m going to take a look at this week’s double game team which is the Adelaide Strikers. They can be targeted as trade ins most likely for Stars players who have the bye.
Rashid Khan
He had an ordinary week by his standards, including D’Arcy Short getting right into him for 27 in an over!
He also nabbed a golden duck with the bat, it simply wasn’t Rashid’s round. After all this though – he still scored 75.
Imagine what he could do if he gets going with the ball and chips in 25 off 9 or so balls with the bat.
He’s still the best skipper option and hopefully a few jump off him now.
He is basically a must for mine but brave folks out there can leave him out if you want to take the risk and anti-POD him!
Peter Siddle
Mr Consistency of the bowlers. Age has not gotten the better of Sidds!
He loves a dot ball, has a good economy rate and can take wickets.
I’m not sure he will take five-fa again, but even one or two a game would lead to a massive score.
A great alternate skipper option and a great guy to own if you can afford him along with Rashid.
Alex Carey
Mr Consistency of the batsmen. He rarely fails historically (watch him get 5 now) and keeps as well so is a massive chance of ‘catching’ points.
With two games in the round and in great form he is a cracking addition at wicket-keeper or bat. Again not a must as batsmen can fail, but is close to it.
Wes Agar
He looked really good to me last weekend. He’s a big strapping fast bowler. A 100+ score is right on the cards and he is a wicket-taker. I’m keen to have him.
Jake Weatherald
I have him in the top group due to the form he showed last match. Gee he looked good! I’m lucky I already own him, but if I didn’t and at his price I’d want him!
Michael Neser
Unclear on his status – Watch the teams to see if he is a chance after being on rep duties. Quality cricketer.
Dan ‘Franky’ Worrell
Exploded last round. Congrats to anyone that picked him.
A solid option again but just be aware his per game average would have been 41 without his batting score.
This is okay and Franky could well provide value again, especially in a double game week, but don’t expect the batting points again (though it’s possible).
You can pick him up but temper expectations and he is certainly not a must.
Matt Renshaw
Looks in good form with the blade and even bowled a few overs. He’s a really nice option at a reasonable price.
I own him already and hope he goes off before selling down the track. The risk is two low scores with the bat because the bowling points are far from assured.
Phil Salt
Two failures thus far but an aggressive type who is more than capable. A really nice double game week POD!
Harry Conway
Keep an eye on teams as he may play and would be an option at his price.
Danny Briggs
Quite frankly he got carted and batsmen looked to really get into him. He probably won’t bat again and with the ball scored a total of two points in a double game week!
Absolutely no way unless you already own him then maybe you give him one more round if he is named to play.
He could always pick up a few if you’re lucky, but on current form and not assured a spot in the team he is a concern…
Jono Wells
Wells had limited opportunity in the opening few games. That’s the risk here because he can really play, but I’d rather have someone I know will bat or bowl.
Especially if the matches are shorted by rain which is possible. Fine to keep him if you already own…
Overall there are still some really good options for Adelaide. You just need to nail the right ones!
Personally I’m already stocked with Rashid, Renshaw, Weatherald and Salt! I may look to add two more I think, likely Carey and Siddle/Agar.
Hopefully the majority of those guys produce big scores over the double game before I settle on a more balanced side next round.
Even more importantly I need to jag the bloke that really goes off after missing out in Round 2. In terms of skipper I’ll likely go with Rashid because it simply makes sense.
The VC option will come from the first game between Hobart and the Melbourne Renegades. With the Strikers on the double you need a big hundred to consider looping this week, especially with likes of Khan available as skipper.
D’Arcy Short would be the no brainer. He scored 116 points in last week’s double, but tonned up in game one before struggling in game two.
In nine games last season he had three centuries, including a 173 and 160 which are the numbers we want to loop.
Other key options are Kane Richardson, Riley Meredith, Colin Ingram and Ben McDermott.
Good luck this week and I think we might have a better idea of the landscape of things by the end of this round and maybe some return to normality with the Stars getting back to form and a few of the others who possibly overperformed coming back to the middle of the pack.
That being said, ride the wave until you think it’s time to cash in. Exciting stuff!!
Captain – Rashid Khan
Vice-captain – D’Arcy Short
It’s not an overly exotic choice, but I think Khan and Short are by far the best options and most SuperCoaches already own the pair of them.
