The SC Spy assesses the best Round 10 captain and vice-captain options with the Stars and Scorchers on the double.
Captain's ChallengeHey gang,
As I sit here in my newly created mini-man cave watching Philippe go mental against Cook, hitting him for 23 in an over, it is a constant reminder of some of the best batting pitches in the BBL.
Early on it was Metricon on the Gold Coast and my favourite ground now is Manuka Oval.
It is very flat and comes onto the bat well, so if in doubt take a look at top order batsmen who have one or more matches at Manuka!
In fact, Alex Hales will be pretty decent value coming into Round 10 if you have an option to buy him.

Other guns who are well priced include Dawid Malan, D’Arcy Short and a sneaky one in Kane Richardson who is very under-priced.
Don’t even start me on Aaron Finch at $80k who I own. A great option if you need a downgrade!
This week’s double game options feature the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Stars.
It would be very dangerous to go without Maxwell, so if you are like me and didn’t own him this round hoping for a price drop (it paid off) now is the time to get him back in unless you are feeling really brave, but I would advise against it.
I also really like Adam Zampa and of course Marcus Stoinis, especially if he starts bowling.
Let’s take a look at skipper options. The Stars are first up for the round so if you can use the VC option then absolutely do!

He is still the man and is due for runs. I’m unsure how many overs he will continue to bowl, it could be anywhere between one and four to be honest.
Three to four in each game would be enormous for him. He’s also likely to grab a catch or two across both games.
Marcus Stoinis
If he bowls then he is my favourite option, but without the duties with the ball he provides some risk v high reward given he may only bat twice and could score two tons or fail twice, which despite his form is of course possible. I like him if you are chasing points! He is batting brilliantly.
Adam Zampa
Zamps is bowling like a flat out superstar. His economy is good and he is taking wickets.
I’ll be doing everything I can to get him in, and while I probably won’t captain him he is definitely a POD option.
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Watch this space in case he returns. It would be bold move, but again a serious POD captaincy option.
Haris Rauf
Rauf returns to the MCG for both games of the double where he had plenty of success last tournament. After a slow start to the competition he’s dropped significantly in value and is a huge POD skipper to consider.
At the high price, with the poor SuperCoach form, he should remain at relatively low-ownership making him even more enticing.
Jhye Richardson
He will be my skipper barring a big start from my VC Maxxy or Stoinis.
I love watching this bloke bowl and he is only getting better. He does have one game at Manuka which is great to bat on.
However in his form he is more than capable of continuing his streak of wickets, particularly while bowling early in the power play and then at the death.
He then plays Brisbane at Marvel where the track is a bit of an unknown. Jhye has a five round average of 102 prior to the current round and knocked out 63 without much luck and only one wicket most recently. He may also get a bat which would be a huge bonus!
Other Options
If required you could take a hit at one of the batsmen in the Scorchers top three, especially if Munro is back.
Mitch Marsh
Even if he plays you probably shouldn’t skipper him because he would likely only bat. He bats at five which is a worry, although he could go bananas at Manuka if given a chance to hit them!
The issue is the Perth top order can at times fire and he doesn’t get a crack. Check team lists, but plan to trade him out if you own as he still holds value, but put a backup option in place in case he plays and you can hold.
Even if he is named there is a thought to perhaps trade him while he is still worth money as two low scores in one round could see his price plummet coming off an injury effected score of 3. Not a must at all but worth consideration depending on your line up…
For me it’s going to be Maxwell or Stoinis as my VC. I’m thinking Maxxy is due, so it’ll likely be him and if he scores above 60 odd in the first game I may well loop, but otherwise it’s all systems go on Jhye Richardson!
