Weekly Wrap: Highs, lows and shocks, Rd 2

Well Round 2 is done and dusted and the stench of wet grass lingers in the air.

A somewhat of a come down from last weekend but we can really lay blame to the absolute deluge that the players played through this weekend.

I’m not what you would call a strong swimmer, so I would have asked for a lifesaver to watch over me if I was forced to play on Saturday! Dead set not even Jessica Fox has seen that much water.

Wet weather and SuperCoach don’t generally mix, so when the weather forecasts came out it set a number of issues in motion. Who do I captain? Should I loop? Will I make some money if I set up a poncho stand outside the grounds?

With this week being the final week before most price rises, it’s time to get rid of that dead wood and try make some coin.. Oh and don’t forget about bye planning!

Eels v Storm

Despite the weather, this was a cracking game of footy!

Both sides were brilliant with the footy and it took a moment of brilliance from Maika Sivo to break the game.

It took a little while for Ryan Papenhuyzen to get moving, but he posted a nice 73 to start the weekend for owners.

Both Reed Mahoney and Junior Paulo were huge again and I’d be looking to get Paulo in as soon as possible.

His two tries in the past two games have fattened his score up, but he looks like a 65+ base player with offloads and tackle breaks added in.

Both Blake Ferguson and Clint Gutherson were quiet, although both seemed to be in the thick of the action for most of the match.

It was a big blow for Matterson owners as he succumbed to a HIA. Especially any of those who traded him in for A Crichton.

He missed a large chunk of footy last year after a similar incident, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him out of the side for the next couple of weeks at best.

If BA names him and doesn’t play him I’ll be sending a strongly worded email to Parra HQ.

Warriors v Knights

We saw the absolute best of Bradman on Friday night. I thought he was all brute strength but showed he has the fitness to be a serious option in the CTW despite his price.

Newcastle look like a good SuperCoach scoring side, so he has to be an option moving forward.

Mitch Barnett continued his form with 85 points. I can’t see him giving the goal-kicking back to Ponga when he returns so he now becomes a must in the 2RF.

Jayden Brailey is another to keep a lookout on. With Api out and Grant still a few weeks away, he is set to make some serious coin once price changes occur after next week. Maybe even a straight swap for Connor Watson who continues to tease us with his potential but has started from the pine two weeks straight.

Tohu Harris seems to have continued his 2020 form with strong back-to-back scores. He did set a try up, but if his price drops he’s a massive POD who averages 65+.

Titans v Broncos

D Fifita thanks for coming! He absolutely tore his former side apart on Friday night in the only dry match of the round.

There was some feeling between him and TPJ who also notched up 100 points as they both went at each other.

TPJ is a bit of a smoky with an average of 90 and ownership at 9%. My only issue there is I have too many Broncos players already and don’t need any more stinking up the place.

Fanitesi Niu stamped himself as a genuine cheapie with a big workrate. He is set to skyrocket in price, so it’s time now to make some cash.

Bulldogs v Panthers

This Panthers side is hot! Well most of them anyway. The less said about Charlie Staines the better!!

The only saving grace is he seems to be in most people’s side so at least we are all sinking with his bad performances.

Thankfully the likes of Jarome Luai, Viliame Kikau and Nathan Cleary continue to score well week in week out.

Cleary has been outshone by Luai to start the year, but both players are scoring machines! Cleary scored 30 points in forced dropouts on Saturday which must be some sort of record.

With Penrith now keeping sides scoreless in the first two weeks, keep that in mind when players come up against the mountain men. They seem to thrive on not letting tries in, so they become a bit of a graveyard for SuperCoach opponents

As for the Bulldogs, well it was much of the same from them. They were unable to cross the line for their second straight match against Penrith which didn’t help the likes of Kyle Flanagan or Jake Averillo.

Josh Jackson was enormous scoring 75 in mostly base stats. He made 61 tackles and missed only the 1! If the Dogs keep playing this way, he’ll be making more and more tackles each week.

Sea Eagles v Rabbitohs

These wrap ups of Manly games are becoming harder and harder. The only thing that brought me some joy was the number of people who traded out Damien Cook after one bad performance.

Thankfully for the Spy, the Overlord at SC Playbook doesn’t punt us after one bad performance.  

Cook was back scoring a huge 105 in a wet and miserable game at Brookvale, nee Lottoland.

Cody Walker, Cam Murray and Latrell Mitchell were all kept pretty quiet, albeit not through a lack of trying.

Latrell was sin binned for an horrific attack on DCE who was lucky to finish the game. Keep an eye on breakevens this week as you may be able to jag some of the Souths boys for a little discount.

Cowboys v Dragons

Not much happening here SuperCoach wise, although I did spruik Ben Hunt in last week’s article as a cheeky POD available at both hooker and halfback backing up his 74 last week with 116 against the Cowboys. 

All the Dragons attack runs through him, so up against Manly this weekend he could score 150+ the way we are going!

Lomax and Bird were heavily involved and owners were rewarded with scores of 64 and 54 respectively.

Whilst Lomax is a little too expensive now, he may drop in price over the next month or so and loom as a good pickup if he can get to around $500k.

Tigers v Roosters

The question on everyone’s lips this weekend was is it too wet to captain Teddy? Absolutely not!

I was a doubter and went the safe loop option on D Fifita, but he just can do no wrong!

I struggled to watch that as an owner who didn’t captain him, I have no idea how non-owners can watch him run around and not have him in your side…

I’m on the fence as to whether or not I should bring in Brett Morris. Two massive scores against two pretty weak sides doesn’t really give off a big sample size. He’s just as likely to score 30 as he is 120, so I guess that’s the risk you take on a CTW costing $637K.

Daine Laurie was sensational again notching up 73 in a well beaten side. He should be in every top 1000 side by the end of the week.

Sharks v Raiders

Our final match of the round was another wet encounter with the likes of Ryan James, George Williams and Hudson Young all backing up strong performances in Round 1.

The trio were superb for Canberra with Young at a steal at $474k. He will average 68+ by the end of the year. Write that down.

The Raiders have a serious side that will only get better once they give early ball to Jack Wighton.

As an owner it’s been a pretty frustrating two weeks to say the least. I had him as an early POD that just hasn’t paid off.

For the cheaper players, Simonsson scored okay without scoring a try and should hold a spot in every owners 17 moving forward.
