TopSport punting preview: NRL Round 3

Each week of the NRL season we’ll be dropping punting previews for the round ahead.

So far in 2021 we’ve nailed 8/8 tips, including two multis in the opening rounds.

Let’s take a look at the tips for Round 3, with all our markets provided exclusively by TopSport.

PUNTING PLAYS

PLAY: Parramatta Eels v Cronulla Sharks: Full Time Alternate Handicaps – Eels -9.5 @$2.04

Parramatta have made a promising start to the year and knocked off the premiers last week. They get a nine day turnaround from that clash and will relish the drier conditions. Cronulla are ticking along okay, but their attack without Shaun Johnson has unsurprisingly taken an enormous hit, granted the conditions weren’t suited to attacking footy in Round 2.

PLAY: Brisbane Broncos v Canterbury Bulldogs: Line: Broncos -3.5 @$1.90

It’s always a concern backing the Broncos with their form, but they have so much to play for at home after a 0/2 start to the season. Granted the Dogs are in the same position, but I think the Broncos side on paper is far superior and they’ll be up for this game big time. In wet conditions I wouldn’t go near this game, but I think in the dry the Broncos will have enough points in them to cover the line.

PLAY: North Queensland Cowboys v Gold Coast Titans: Line: Titans -6.5 @$1.90

I’d be all in on the Titans if at home, but obviously the game in Townsville brings the Cowboys into the game somewhat. Regardless, their edge defence is fragile at best and I think AJ Brimson can take full advantage of it. The Titans pack is loaded with firepower, and with no Jason Taumalolo on deck I can see the visitors getting the upper hand through the middle third of the field.
