Draft Breakdown: Waiver-wire targets, Rd 4

Every week I will be looking at players still available in 65% of leagues. There may be better options still available in your league, but this article will be focusing on the players that are likely to be available in most leagues.

Last week we had some success with Dylan Walker, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable playing him against the Panthers this week unless you are desperately thin at CTW.

Chad Townsend and Reimis Smith should be played this week against sides that can leak points.

Last week was a particularly high scoring week for SuperCoach players and looking at the matchups this week, there’s going to be a fair few player that go large again.

WAIVER-WIRE TARGETS

Josh Schuster (5/8)

Schuster was the best player on the field for Manly against the Dragons last weekend, scoring 90 points in 80 minutes and had 42 base points.

He ran great lines, had great touch with the ball and Manly should recognise he is one of their best options, if not the best option, for scoring points before Turbo is back.

His defence wasn’t really tested on the weekend with most of the Dragons tries coming through Manly’s right edge. It’s hard to predict Dez, but I don’t see Schuster losing his spot in the team unless defence is an issue.

A great option if you don’t have an elite 5/8 or even for trade bait.

Wayde Egan (HOK)

Egan had a lot of hype as a junior and so far has failed to deliver any SuperCoach results in his career.

This year playing 80 minutes and having the ability to play off the back of a good Warriors pack, he has a chance to be decent and so far he is producing good scores in a small sample size.

If you take out his first game where he had a HIA, he is averaging 64.5PPG with 51.5 points in base without scoring a try.

An 80 minute hooker that plays the whole season is certainly rare and Egan is worth the waiver for this potential.

Brenko Lee (CTW)

Brenko is due back from injury this round or next and will slot in at right centre for the Storm.

Whilst he didn’t set the world on fire with a 49 point average last year, he was super consistent in his scores.

The Storm have an easy run coming up and draft players that are lacking CTW options should invest in Brenko.

Sam Walker (HFB)

Walker has some serious hype before playing a single first grade game and will come into the Roosters side with the injuries to Lam and Keary.

I’ve only seen Walker play in the trials this year where he looked good, but it’s a big step up for a rookie half to be consistent every week of the NRL.

Whether you believe the hype or not, he is still coming into a great attacking side who face the Warriors, Sharks and Dragons over the next four rounds.

He is likely to kick goals when SST is off the field and has great attacking weapons to boost his scores. He is worth the waiver on potential in a great attacking team.

Other players likely to come in due to injuries.

There was a lot of injuries in Round 3 that will affect team make ups. Here are a few players to keep an eye on for team lists:

May/Naden/Burton – Whoever is named to replace Dylan Edwards this week against Manly should be high priority.

Haze Dunster (CTW) – A gifted winger that may come in for Sivo and would be a good play against the Dragons.

Ben Trbojevic (2RF/CTW)  – Manly are playing awful at the moment, but if Burbo can get a second-row spot for the injured Gosiewski and we can play him at CTW, that’s gold no matter what team he plays for.

Lachlan Fitzgibbon (2RF) – If Barnett is out for a decent period of time with his calf, Fitz will have an opportunity to partner with Ponga on the Knights lethal left edge.
