Croker’s Call: Stockmen fire with SuperCoach high

Round 3, 2021, the Stockmen notched our best NRL SuperCoach round of all-time, by a considerable margin at that.

A very handy score of 1,338 saw me finish 126^th for the round, pushing me into 1,438th overall.

In my inaugural SuperCoach season in 2020 I don’t think I was in the top 15,000, so I’m pretty ecstatic at the start to my year, especially after a terrible opening round.

Mitchy Barnett was solid as my captain with 77 points, while recruit Blake Ferguson, Kurt Capewell, Tex Hoy, Connor Watson and David Fifita all went big.

I think I’m getting the hang of this game, although I’ve also got enough experience now to know it can change rapidly.

Here’s hoping the rise continues over the Easter weekend of footy, so onto my Round 4 trades.

DYLAN BROWN – JOSH SCHUSTER

I’m really not happy about getting rid of Dylan Brown, he’s a really promising talent and I think big scores are around the corner.

But the SuperCoach experts that be have indicated that Manly’s young gun Josh Schuster is set for very large price rises.

He score reasonably in a losing side last night, so hopefully he turns out to be a smart trade.

I’ll be filthy with my advisors if Brown scores a century on Monday as I’ve always backed my instincts in SuperCoach, to my own demise last year at times…

TYRELL FUIMAONO – TYSON FRIZELL

Fuimaono has made me a little bit of money and may make some more, but I’m fairly happy with how my side is shaping up.

I’ve had a relatively clean run of injuries so I don’t have too many forced trades.

The money I made from Schuster allows me to get in Knights recruit Tyson Frizell.

He’s been one of the NRL’s elite back-rowers for many years due to his incredible consistency at all levels.

It can often be hard settling into new environments, especially back-rowers who have a tough job of getting the timing of their lines in sync with a new playmaker on their inside.

Such is Frizell’s class that he’s slotted into the edge role in Newcastle seamlessly.

He’s pretty lowly owned, so hopefully he gives me an edge to make further jumps.

CAPTAINS

My vice-captain was Nathan Cleary last night who went very well, but not quite enough to get tricky in order to double his score.

My captain will be on James Tedesco this week for his clash with the Warriors.

Now that I’m actually doing alright I’m inclined to play it a little safe and try hang onto my spot.

Many have posed plenty of questions of the Roosters with injuries to their halves, but they’re a very professional organisation with quality depth, so I’m sure they’ll cover the injuries well enough to allow Tedesco to continue on with his blistering year.
