Draft Breakdown: Waiver-wire targets, Rd 5

Every week I will be looking at players still available in 65% of leagues. There may be better options still available in your league, but this article will be focusing on the players that are likely to be available in most leagues.

I hope everyone who grabbed Matt Burton, Chad Townsend and Sam Walker last week were able to get away with a good win.

Josh Schuster was off his game, like the whole of Manly, but 47 points from a 5/8 on a bad day is nothing to be sneezed at.

Egan playing the Roosters was only able to manage 44 points in base, but is playing Manly this week and I’d be happy if 44 points is his floor for the rest of the season.

Let’s have a look at the options this week.

WAIVER-WIRE TARGETS

Drew Hutchinson (HFB/5-8)

Hutchinson looked solid on the Roosters left hand edge, scoring 54 points with 35 points from base stats.

He took a lot of runs and will benefit from having Angus Crichton outside him (who switched sides last week due to Tupouniua’s early HIA) and the rest of the Roosters’ attacking threats.

He also looked the most comfortable goal-kicker when SST was off the field and will likely retain these duties.

Teig Wilton (2RF)

Wilton is likely only a one week play, starting on the right hand edge for the Sharks, in place of the suspended Nikora.

Last week he scored 78 points in 80 minutes with 55 points coming from base stats.

He looks to have a great work ethic and will get you at least 50 points this week if you are struggling at 2RF.

Shane Wright (2RF)

Wright is another hard-working 2RF who managed to score 61 base points last week.

He has shown this work ethic and base stats in the past, so I think he can keep up these scores if he gets the minutes.

The only issue is job security, which is a big issue with the Cowboys in a world of hurt and are likely to consistently change the team make up, including Wright’s minutes or position.

Enari Tuala (CTW)

Tuala hasn’t exactly set the world on fire averaging 30PPG without any attacking stats this season.

Now that Ponga has been named to return from injury, Tuala will benefit playing in the left centre position until Best returns.

Tuala is only owned by 10% of leagues and for good reason.

There are other CTW’s that are more highly owned such as George Jennings or Tom Opacic that I would start over him, but he is one for deeper leagues that will start producing better scores.

Tui Kamikamica (FRF)

Tui is averaging 51PPG in 52 minutes per game and has been a consistent scorer for the Storm.

There is a chance that when Finucane returns from injury his minutes will drop, but I think he is playing good enough football for the Storm to hold his scores.

Before he got injured last year, he was averaging 63PPG (inflated by a try) and by all reports was one of the most impressive in pre-season.

Tui is another pickup for deeper leagues that don’t have Tom Burgess or Waerea-Hargreaves available at FRF.
