Round 5 is in the books and it was another week of huge performances from some of the leading SuperCoach players.
David Fifita was playing another grade on Saturday, tearing the Knights apart whilst Ryan Papenhuyzen backed up his round 4 heroics somewhat to take the Bulldogs apart.
We are right in the thick of early season head-to-head matchups, so every match has some meaning.
I spent a fair chunk of last year writing off the Spy’s credentials, but it seems things have clicked this year for him and he and a host of other SC Playbook contributors are sitting pretty in the top 1000.
I guess the big question on everyone’s lips this week is do I get rid of Teddy or Papi for Turbo? The answer is both. Turbo to go 125+ in his first match back.

Thursday started off as a bit of a bludger for me as I pulled the trigger and bought Cook in.
The Broncos it appears only like to get carved up by fullbacks, so when Cook was rested after 60 minutes the groans were heard loud and clear in the Moon household.
As for Latrell. Wow, what a star. I love seeing all the ‘Latrell over Teddy’ posts because it takes some Mahoney’s to not have Teddy in your side.
Latrell has scored 464 this year whilst Teddy has 478, so it’s an extra 14 points for about $300k less in price. I don’t have Mahoney or the Mahoney’s to do it, so hats off to those who do.
The demise of Murray continues to frustrate owners. He seemed to score better with the old rules in place! He has scored more 50s in the past 12 months than Joe Root. I’d be looking elsewhere for a second-rower.

Ah how good are weekly wraps after a win! We have lost to the top 4 sides this year so it was nice to play a side who isn’t flying.
Oh and does anyone know how to change a last name? Thinking Nick Cherry-Evans has a nice ring to it.
There were some good solid SuperCoach scores in this game that didn’t feature too many of our SC stars.
Josh Schuster was again huge playing on that left edge. He picked up a try to finish with 64 and made owners a ton of cash if you were able to get on board early.
The other impressive performance was from former SuperCoach gun Jazz Tevaga. 84 in just 57 minutes and is nice price for a solid back-rower who makes 40+ tackles a week.
DCE was instrumental in the win and the next few weeks with his old mate Tommy Turbo back might make him a POD if he can continue to set tries up.

Any team, any ground, the Panthers continue to score and score well. Whilst it wasn’t the huge scores of weeks gone by, Brian To’o, Nathan Cleary, Jarome Luai and Charlie Staines all registered 70+ scores, with Staines crossing for two tries!
I doubt many had him in their 17, but whilst he continues to make money he can sit in the NPR spot until it’s time to upgrade him.
Luai was as good as ever and unlucky not to score 90+ I thought. He has now outscored both Munster and Walker in the 5/8 position and it’s one decision The Spy has got right since SC Playbook’s inception. I’ll give him that!
Kurt Capewell had, not for the first time, a night to forget scoring only 40. There are probably bigger and more pressing trades for most but his one score of 95 seems to be the outlier.
Titans v Knights
The highs and lows of owning Fifita and Tino! If before the game you had said they would score 173 between them you might have thought that’s a bit low. And it was. Especially when one player scores 147 of that score! Fifita was unstoppable scoring three tries.
The one off the tap 10m out reminded me of the big kid in the under 8s who is just too strong for the other side. This is the NRL though. He shouldn’t be doing that!!
A superb performance that now has him second behind only Brett Morris as leading SuperCoach point scorer for 2021. He is a must and will only get better as Origin approaches.

As for Tino, well it was 26 points that has been about five weeks coming. He hasn’t shown that same scoring ability as last year and with Fifita playing the way he is, we might be set for these lower scores.
Again, he’s not one I’ll be looking to trade out, but with Origin approaching and he being an incumbent, he might need to pull his socks up and get out of second gear.
For the wounded Knights, Jayden Brailey, Connor Watson and Mitch Barnett were okay for a side that got trounced by 26 points, with Brailey setting up a try.
I doubt many have Kalyn Ponga with the Teddy, Papi and Latrell trio, but a return of 66 points will prick the ears of some. It did include a try, so when the troops return he could be the huge POD play that pays off.

It was a big watch for most to see if Papi could repeat last week’s heroics. And he did.
He was downgraded to a mere 113, but with a vast majority putting the C on him, it was a nice comfort knowing there was a big captain’s score.
He takes on the Roosters next week, but with the goal-kicking and his support play, he now appears a certain 2021 set-and-forget keeper despite the immense depth at fullback in SuperCoach.
Christian Welch barged over for his first try since Marcus Bai was at the club, netting owners a handy 100 points, whilst Munster took a bit more control this week and was rewarded with 78. 78 more points than Cody Walker this week so that’s a win for us non Cody owners.
Like many, I was really excited to see the return of Harry Grant! He knocked out 66 but had increased minutes with Brandon Smith succumbing to the man flu. Keep an eye on Harry over the next few weeks for his minutes and output. He will play Origin, but after that I’ll be moving heaven and earth to get him in.

There’s owning Sam Walker, and then there is owning AND playing Sam Walker. I fall into the latter thankfully!
A performance well above his years on Saturday night as he took control in the last 20 minutes of the match to get the win for the Tri-colours and finish with a handy 89 points.
He has a breakeven of around -598 next week, so he is set to make all owners some of that sweet sweet cheapie money.
I’d be careful of playing him this week v the Storm, but if the Chooks score, he’s not going to be far away.
As for Teddy, well it’s a high price to pay for 57 points. There is some serious thought now Luke Keary is gone that he may not be the SuperCoach Player we all know he can be.
He takes on the Dragons and Newcastle after Melbourne this weekend, so it’s a tricky one and with a BE of 150 points this week, he could be set to lose plenty more cash.
Owners of Brett Morris well done! He continues to score tries for fun and has to be close to getting his name on the SCG honour’s board.

What a disappointing performance the Tigers threw up here. Fans must be used to it by now, but a packed house, on Sunday afternoon, playing a side that hasn’t won there since they used sand as kicking tees, it should have been a walk in the park for them.
I picked up David Nofoaluma for this match, so when he went in for his first try I was elated, then the bunker ruined his second try and what would have been a 1000 word article on what a masterstroke it was from me to bring him in.
He still scored 76, but the Tigers attack looks like it all goes through Luciano Leilua on the left edge, meaning there is little chance for David to showcase his try-scoring ability.
I like Leilua as an option. He plays the all-important Round 12 match so is a definite trade target and his offloading and linebreak ability is as good as anyones.
Daine Laure was good again crossing for a try, notching up 53 points and is a must for Round 13.

It was a boilover in the late Sunday night match!! Not having any players in this one meant my week was done by 6pm Sunday, but there was a lot still at stake for owners of Blake Ferguson, Clint Gutherson, Junior Paulo etc.
Ferguson was one I was hoping had a quiet match. He seems to feature heavily in a number of my opponent’s side, so when he was kept tryless I was pretty excited.
His score of 45 though was still good considering he is still making money for owners and has a nice couple of weeks coming up against the Raiders, Broncos and then Bulldogs.
Isaiah Papali’I has been a revelation in the back-row for the Eels! He notched up 109 to go with his 93 last week and now has a BE of -7 going into next week. Like I mentioned earlier, he has a cosy draw, so if you can, he would be one I would target.
As for the Dragons, Matt Dufty, Adam Clune and Paul Vaughan were terrific managing to get the Dragons their fourth win in a row, which is three more than I thought they would win this year.
