Analysing the top 20,000 teams after Round 10

What another crazy week of NRL and NRL Supercoach. A double ton from Cleary, 14 sin binnings, 3 send-offs and 10 players suspended. And some one scored 1,776 points – wow!

Let’s go through the ownership of players in each position after round 10.

Fullback

Another round, another ton for Tommy Turbo, who now has an astonishing four tons in five games. Thankfully I missed out on captaining Turbo and was stuck captaining Cleary!

Kalyn Ponga’s POD owners were stung with the news of his withdrawal, but it would appear that most elected to bring in James Tedesco and his owners would be delighted with his return to the 100 club. 

Those who held on to Ryan Papenhuyzen were dealt a cruel blow when he was knocked out and will now be spitting chips that they held. Rough..   

CTW

After 2 weeks of 70+ scores, I’m officially upgrading Jason Saab and Charlie Staines to the ‘playable’ CTW table. Whilst I’m still not 100% convinced, the team scoring 1,776 this week started both of them so what do I know?!

After all the trade action at CTW last week, this week was slightly more subdued. The likes of Kurt Capewell (-8%), Charlie Staines (-4%) and Bailey Simmonson (-4%) were sold off for David Nofoaluma (+6%), Nicho Hynes (+4%), Jason Saab (+4%), Stephen Crichton (+3%) and even Josh Addo-Carr (+1%). 

Nicho Hynes was the one to catch though – and teams with him (and Cleary as captain) surged up the rankings. With Ryan Papenhuyzen now out for at least another week and Origin lurking, Hynes was the perfect pick up for those who grabbed him. 

Five-eighth

There was plenty of trade action at five-eighth this week. The injury to Cameron Munster, ‘emergence’ of Tyson Gamble and POD-factor of Adam Doueihi led to lots of change.

36% of the top 10,000 teams brought in Gamble and those that rolled the dice and played him (surely no one?!) lost big time. Schuster fell from 72% ownership to 54% and Munster dropped from 51% to 22%. All I can is that those 22% of teams must have had even bigger issues to deal with. 

Jarome Luai increased from 20% to 33% ownership whilst Cody Walker increased from 25% to 28%. Adam Doueihi increased from 1% to 3% – but 7% of the top 100 teams now have Doueihi. I still worry about him at CTW, but again – what do I know?!

Halfback

Nathan Cleary, you are a freak. I don’t recall a half as consistent at Supercoach scoring as Cleary. I guess that’s why 99.65% of the top 10,000 teams have him!

2RF

Not surprisingly, the suspension of David Fifita saw just over 50% of the top 10,000 teams trade the big fella in last week.  A further 19% sold Ben Condon, 5% sold Mitch Barnett, 5% sold Ryan James and 4% sold Teig Wilton.

So who did they pick up?

Ryan Matterson was by far the most popular trade-in target, with 40% of the top 10,000 teams bringing him in – including 64 of the top 100 teams.

17% of teams brought in Isaiah Papali’i, 13% of teams welcomed Tohu Harris and approximately 5% traded in each of Angus Crichton, Tevita Pangai and James Fisher Harris.

FRF

Leaving aside dual 2RF/FRFs that we have already covered, the main action at FRF last week was once again in relation to Payne Haas whose ownership increased by another 5% and Stefano Utoikamanu whose ownership fell by 4% and Sio Siua Taukeiaho whose ownership fell by 4%.  As a Taukeiaho owner, I think I’m left with no choice but to join the group selling this week – what is going on there?

HOK

In a week where several hookers were out, I’m actually surprised by the lack of trade activity over the past week – I guess there were just bigger fish to fry with the likes of Fifita, Papenhuyzen, Munster etc.

Jake Simpkin’s ownership only fell 3% to 27% and even Harry Grant only fell from 8% to 6%.  That’s a lot of bucks on the pine.

Interestingly, those who sold went back to Jayden Brailey – his ownership increased from 78% to 83%.  I guess the combination of his consistency and playing round 13 are just too much to pass up.

Round 10 Captaincy Choices

In the exact opposite to last week, after Friday night I was ruing my decision to captain Nathan Cleary over Tommy Turbo. What a difference 48 hours makes 🙂

The 7 teams in the top 100 who fall in the ‘Other’ category all looped Tommy Turbo.

So who to captain in Round 11?  This week looks a little more challenging. Tommy Turbo is up against the Eels at Bankwest and Nathan Cleary meets the Rabbitohs. 

Whilst both are fairly match up proof, Teddy up against the Roosters will be tempting to many. Even Sam Walker could attract some interest. Frankly any goal-kicker with attacking upside against the Broncos sounds pretty attractive right now.
