Analysing the top 20,000 teams after Round 11

Nathan Cleary you bloody legend! After sticking solid with the armband on Cleary, I’m pleased to say my team is finally on the charge.

It sums up this season really – a couple of weeks of nailing the captaincy choice and you can surge up the rankings. What an amazing couple of weeks from Cleary. 

Surely only an early shower can cost him another cricket score against the Bulldogs…although it is worth noting that in the past three seasons Cleary has posted scores of 88, 54 and 34 against the Dogs.  

Let’s go through the ownership of players in each position after round 11.

Fullback

With the injury to Ryan Papenhuyzen, 13% of the top 10,000 teams sold Papenhuyzen and almost all bought James Tedesco. Fair call. More surprisingly, with Round 13 coming up around a quarter of Clint Gutherson’s owners also traded him for Teddy or Turbo. 

Tommy Turbo now has an astonishing five tons in six games – what an amazing player. 

With Origin coming up, I suspect that most teams will save the trades and hold onto Turbo and Teddy and play a player short – you just can’t afford to not have either right now in my opinion – at least until Papenhuyzen or Ponga are back.     

CTW

Not surprisingly, as soon as a re-classified Jason Saab and Charlie Staines to my ‘playable’ CTW table they both bombed out again. I should have stuck to my guns and left them as unplayable! I traded both a while ago in any case.

There were some monster scores at CTW this week – Taulagi (145), Hynes (138), Holmes (138), Garrick (128), Cotric (105), To’o (101) and Feldt (101) all posted ton. 

None were more popular I suspect than that of Nicholas Hynes. A crazy 55% of the top 10,000 teams traded Hynes in last week, meaning that he is now owned by over 70% of the top 10,000 teams. So much for the 23% ownership on the Supercoach site – I wish he was that sort of POD..

Five-eighth

There was minimal change in ownership at five-eighth last week. 6% of the top 10,000 teams sold Cameron Munster and 6% of teams brought in Adam Doueihi. 

Halfback

After almost no action at halfback, Sam Walker’s plummeting price is already leading to lots of trade activity this week. Personally, I’m just not sure who to bring in? The likes of Matt Burton, Jahrome Hughes and Albert Kelly will all be popular options.

2RF

Ryan Matterson is now owned by 57% of the top 10,000 teams – up from 40% last week and just 1% the week prior. James Fisher-Harris has also increased from 22% ownership to 36%.  Both new sets of owners would have been disappointed with their returns in Round 11.

Broncos debutant Keenan Palasia is one to watch. If he plays well this week and is named for Round 13 he will no doubt be in almost every side come the bye round.

FRF

Leaving aside dual 2RF/FRFs that we have already covered, the main action at FRF last week was once again in relation to Luke Thompson whose ownership increased by 4%, Sio Siua Taukeiaho whose ownership fell by 10% and Stefano Utoikamano whose ownership fell by 4%. 

HOK

Aside from a 2% increase in ownership for Brandon Smith, there was virtually no change at hooker last week. Expect that to change fast after round 13.

Round 11 Captaincy Choices

Spare a thought for the 1 team in the top 50 who captained Sam Walker. What a costly mistake!

Thankfully I’ve captained Nathan Cleary back-to-back which has been a great result. In saying that, those who captained Turbo and Nicholas Hynes also fared well. Who knew Teddy’s 97 would prove to be a costly captaincy score?

The two teams in the top 100 who looped vice captained Valentine Holmes and Hynes.

After scoring 415 points in the past two weeks, it will take a very brave Supercoach to not captain Nathan Cleary against the Bulldogs this week. 

In saying that, there are viable alternatives for those happy to take a chance. Nicholas Hynes takes on the Broncos and Tom Turbo will destroy the Knights in current form.  Even Teddy could take apart the Raiders. 

I suspect a lot of people will VC Hynes, but how many points is enough to loop and take the risk on Cleary? Hynes would need to go MASSIVE!
