Draft Breakdown: Waiver-wire + trade targets, Rd 15

Every week I will be looking at players still available in 65% of leagues. There may be better options still available in your league, but this article will be focusing on the players that are likely to be available in most leagues.

Last week saw some great opportunities for waiver pickups with the resting of many Origin and injured players.

Best call: Waqa Blake – Taulagi, Lawton and Blake all had great games, but Blake continued his work rate and decent scores after years of being mediocre. He remains a good option in the Eels matchup against the Bulldogs.

Worst call: Benji Marshall – Marshall at hooker is not for me as he was too gassed to provide decent service, let alone get involved in anything. I don’t think we will see him spend much time at hooker in the future, but he still remains an option if he is named in the halves over this Origin period.

Team lists have produced some great options for this week.

WAIVER OPTIONS

Siosifa Talakai (2RF/CTW)

Talakai replaces Wade Graham on the left edge of the Sharks for the foreseeable future.

He should be at the top of everyone’s waivers as you can play him in your CTW.

Last year he averaged 75PPG in the eight games he played on the edge….what a beast.

Joey Lussick (HOK)

Lussick is playing 80 minutes at hooker for the Eels until Mahoney returns in a few weeks.

Last week he scored 50 points in base stats and wasn’t afraid to run the ball.

A great short-term option if you are struggling at hooker.

Greg Marzhew (CTW)

Marzhew has received a lot of hype in previous years, but after watching him on the weekend I am genuinely surprised it has taken him this long to get a run.

He is a massive winger that goes looking for work, busts tackles for fun and even has an offload in his game. These are gold attributes in a Supercoach CTW.

His job security isn’t great with Don and Thompson to come back into the team. Until then enjoy the average of 14PPG he is averaging in tackle busts, 35BPG and 10PPG in offloads.

He plays Manly this week on the Gold Coast and is one of the better CTW options we’ve had in a long time.

Haumole Olakau’atu (2RF)

Haumole is playing 80 minutes on the right hand edge outside Cherry-Evans.

He has good base and with Curtis Sironen reportedly a fair while off returning he could hold this spot through a golden period for Manly.

Manly face the leaky Titans, Bulldogs, Raiders, Dragons and Tigers over the next five weeks.

Jayden Campbell (FLB)

Campbell is a good option if you are struggling at fullback.

Despite his relatively low scores of 47 and 48 he has so much potential that could be realised this week against Manly, if Brimson doesn’t return from injury.

He has great footwork and speed that could trouble Manly and for such a small body he gets through some good work, averaging 33BPG.

TRADE TARGETS

These are the under or overperforming players you may be able to pick up in a trade cheaply, or sell while peaking in SuperCoach form.

OUT

Murray Taulagi (CTW)

Taulagi is firing with a 3RA of 91PPG. While the Cowboys have a nice upcoming draw and he could score well for a few more weeks, there’s an opportunity to sell him off for a more proven player in a more consistent side.

Alternatively it may be worth holding for a couple more weeks for the Cowboys nice run, before they face the Roosters and Storm in Round 18/19.

Jarrod Wallace (FRF)

Wallace’s scores have been inflated in recent weeks with a try and a try-assist. He has a 3RA of 75PPG compared to a season average 57PPG.

You may be able to find someone that doesn’t look too far into his numbers that will make him great trade bait.

Payne Haas (FRF)

You might have trouble getting Haas owners to part ways with the big man, but he’s been below par of late with a 3RA of 50PPG.

Despite Origin commitments, Haas should play big minutes for the rest of the season as pressure builds on the club for results.

He remains an elite option in the FRF position.

Cameron Murray (2RF)

Murray hasn’t taken the field much of late for the Rabbitohs due to Origin commitments and injury.

While he may not play huge minutes over the next few weeks, he’ll build into big time post Origin.

With a 3RA of just 48PPG you may be able to pull off the trade of an elite 2RF option who will be gold come Draft finals time.

Don’t pass up a genuine gun for him, but it’s worth throwing an offer out for the underperforming Rabbitoh.

MPG = Minutes per game

PPG = Points per game

PPM= Points per minute

BPG = Base per game (point accrued in tackles + runs + missed tackles)

POD = Point of difference

3RA = Three round average

5RA = Five round average

BREAKEVEN (B/E) = The score a player must record to earn a price rise.
