Draft Breakdown: Waiver-wire targets, Rd 17

We take a look at the best options to grab from the SuperCoach Draft wires in a unique Round 17 edition.

Draft Breakdown

Every week we will be looking at players still available in 65% of leagues. There may be better options still available in your league, but this article will be focusing on the players that are likely to be available in most leagues.

Best call last round –  Mulitalo – Scoring 52 points in a poor Sharks performance, without a try. He won’t let you down going forward with a great work rate.

Worst call last round– Marshall-King – Scoring only 39 points in 66 minutes and facing two weeks on the sideline. He is not an option if he isn’t playing 80 minutes.

If your Draft league plays the byes, this is an important week as we get closer to the finals. You have to consider what sacrifices you need to make to win this round.

If you are sitting well inside the top four of your league you don’t need to try to find points this round. On the other hand, if you are sitting outside the top eight or finals contention you may need to make some hard sacrifices of decent players not playing this round to get the win.

Obviously, you need to be aware of how many players your opponent will be fielding and base your decisions on how possible it is to win and how desperately you need the win.

The format of the article is a little different for this bye round and only considers the players from teams plaything this week.

WAIVER OPTIONS FOR ROUND 17

  1. Benji Marshall (HFB/5-8)

Coming up against a leaky Cowboys with stars all around him, he is a genuine VC/C option.

2. Hudson Young (2RF)

Young will likely come onto the edge for the injured Whitehead. When playing on the edge this year, Young has averaged 66 PPG and is a great pickup until Whitehead returns.

3. Haumole Olakau’atu (2RF)

Great pickup for this round and into the future with a 3RA of 73 and 5RA of 59.

4. Sam Verrills (HOK)

After a shocking run of injuries, Verrills played 66 minutes last week and scored 42 points in base. He will add some attacking stats to this base against the Bulldogs this week and should be decent for the Roosters upcoming draw.

5. Teig Wilton (2RF)

Massive workhorse on the edge for the Sharks and is averaging 55+ in base when playing 80 minutes on the edge.

6. Wayde Egan (HOK)

An 80 minute hooker that will get 50+ points against the Shark this week.

7. Elise Katoa (2RF)

He was the Warriors best player against the Dragons. Unfortunately, consistency is a real issue for the young Warrior, but injuries to middle players will likely mean he plays big minutes this week pending his own fitness.

8. Dylan Walker (5-8/CTW)

Manly have multiple injuries and key players out this week. Walker has been seeing good minutes in the middle of the field and has great attacking upside.

9. Joseph Suaalii (CTW)

Suaalii isn’t scoring great as the Roosters have faced some tough opposition. Against the Bulldogs this week that will all turn around.

10. Isaac Liu (FRF/2RF) or Leeson Ah Mau (FRF)

Consistent scorers that will get about 45 points this week.
