POD Hunter: Round 13, unique players to find an edge

We take a look at the best low-ownership options to set you apart from SuperCoach BBL rivals

Not for the purposes of this article only player at ownership levels of under 10% at the time of writing will be considered.

It is all about the double game week players for me this week! Four teams with some big scoring players, it is where personally my trades will be going this week.

As always, if you can check line ups before commencing trades because we might see some funky line ups during Round 13. You never know!

DOUBLE ROUND POD

Shaun Marsh – 9.9% ownership

There are some big name players and batters that are involved during this massive Round 13 schedule.

If you are looking to be a bit different and have a quality batter that could compile a special innings, Shaun Marsh may be a target for you.

An exquisite timer of the ball on his day, Marsh has shown time and time again he can go large (many scores over 100 over the years) and hopefully for Renegades fans he can do this to end the tournament.

His form has been very reasonable since returning from injury, with the highlight being 57 runs against a weakened Heat outfit.

A move back to opener last match is a positive and I can see him being the backbone of an innings where the Renegades finally put a large total on the board.

Batters, and in particular openers, can be a pivot to a successful double round week.

They can be dismissed early and score low or can pass 20 in both innings and make a difference for your team. Hopefully Marsh can be the latter and not the former for us!

Tom Rogers – 9.6% ownership

Looking at the opposition this week for Hobart and one thing that is noticeable is that they play the two Melbourne teams.

These are teams that are prone to a collapse and an under par batting performance.

If you believe that this could happen this week, locking in a Hobart bowler who could take bulk wickets could be a path you take and Rogers has shown he can do that this season.

Whilst scoring has dipped in the last few rounds, scores from earlier in the season look mighty fine.

86, 73, 96,111 and 135 were scored by Rogers and hopefully for potential owners he can deliver these sorts of scores again.

One of the better yorker bowlers in the BBL, combined with the fact that he can hold a bat and hit big when required, I am sure he will see an ownership increase this round.

Ben Duckett – 8.6% ownership

Joe Clarke has seen many plaudits as an overseas batter who has taken the BBL by storm, but Duckett has been sneaky good and deserves some praise for how he has gone about his business.

It could be argued that he has been the best better for Brisbane, depending on what statistical measurement you go by.

Two big round scores over 100, one was on a double week, is what will have coaches interested. An innovator and a decent player of spin, will he be part of your trades this week?

Ben Dwarshuis – 8.5% ownership

Another article, another Dwarshuis mention. At least I have him in my team now            !

It’s been a slightly different role for Dwarsshuis in the last few matches with opening overs going to Bird and Abbott and Dwarshuis bowling the middle overs including the power surge.

It certainly seems to be working for Benny and he has scored 132 and 64 points in his last two outings.

With the Sixers on a double and looking to win both games to finish as high as possible on the ladder, Dwarshuis could be taking multiple wickets in his games this round. Hopefully a big finish to the year for owners!

Stephen O’Keefe – 8.0% ownership

The chance of an injury or resting over a double is probably the highest for Stephen O’Keefe compared to any player in the BBL which is not ideal when considering trade ins.

However, what is ideal is the 183 points he accumulated in the Sixers double earlier in the year and the 120 points he scored last round returning from injury in the ladder defining game against the Thunder.

A sneaky ceiling exists for O’Keefe and those that want a spinner in their line up for Round 13 would be wise to consider the competitor from Manly.

Mark Steketee – 6.3% ownership

There was a rise in ownership levels for Round 12 for Steketee and there will be another increase for Round 13.

A very reliable scorer, he has averaged 76 points in limited matches this season.

A low of 34 last game (but that is far from horrendous!) and what could have been for Steketee and the Heat in their last match up if that edge from Maxwell was taken early on during the Stars innings.

He’s a possible captaincy option too, will he take up one of your bowling spots this week?

DOUBLE ROUND SUPER PODS

Michael Neser – 2.8% ownership

Coming off a score of two last game, Neser might prove a real POD option for coaches over the Brisbane Heat double.

You need only go back a few years to see some massive scores from Neser, but he certainly has the game that could translate to some big SC scores.

Bowling and trying to swing the new ball, coming back for overs later on the innings, being handy with that bat and solid in the field demonstrates that he is a true all round contributor.

His endeavour and effort last night in a team that was well beaten was awesome and that is something that I would like to see as a prospective owner.

Cameron Boyce 2.1% ownership

It was great to see Boyce back in action recently and 114 points over a double game round is a great return for the people who went early on him. He bowled with poise and control.

If the Renegades could post some bigger totals, this would benefit Boyce greatly too.

Jack Edwards 1.8% ownership

Talking of PODS, an outrageous POD move for those looking to be the boldest of bold to end the season, could Jack Edwards pop up and have the round of his life?

Looping would be strongly advised but at some point, providing he continues to open the batting, surely he puts together a decent score?

There is no data to back this up, looking at his previous scores and I certainly won’t be doing it, but I hope as a Sixers fan I see a big knock from him!

Mitchell Swepson – 1.4% ownership

At lower ownership than Edwards, but a far more sensible move in terms of looking to be different, Swepson could prove a shrewd trade in this round.

Ignore his 2 from his last match up, he is far better than that. I can see his form reflecting what happened last year when he returned to BBL action.

He was average in his first match back (8 points) but then was fantastic when he settled into his rhythm and peeled off scores of 58,  80,76, 56 and 50.

He’s a quality player and of course we always want to be trading in quality players.
