Weekly Wrap: Round 6 stars, flops, injuries

I know a bloke who sold Cleary this week for Moses. Cost him about 160 odd points.. If you thought your week wasn’t great, spare a thought for him. Or not, I thought it was quite funny!

Round 6 was seemingly dictated again by captaincy choices and whether you owned Nathan Cleary.

The mercurial halfback was at his best knocking out a massive 150 to give owners a huge boost and have those non-owners scrambling to fit him into sides. He dropped in price by $47k, certainly not as much as first hoped.

The footy was good and the chocolate was even better on the long, long weekend, and the beauty of it all? Well, it’s team list Tuesday today!! How good is five days straight of footy.

I hope some of the trades you have made in the past few weeks have come good and made you some serious coin to be able to afford some of the big names like Fifita, Cleary, Murray and Hynes. 

My biggest problem? Picking the four reserves that score the best every week. How hard is that getting! Someone send help because every time I see a grey player with a score of 60+ I die a little inside.

Raiders v Cowboys

A dour old game to kick the Easter weekend off, but the big Supercoach names in this match stood tall! Tommy Starling continues to grow into his full-time hooking role and with the disappearance of Frawley, he looks set to lock 80 minutes in each week. He finished the night with 83. A great upgrade option from Randall.

The Cowboys big duo of Taumalolo and Holmes were both enormous for the North Queensland side. Taumalolo in particular has gotten better and better every week. His game on Thursday was a throwback to 2017 where he amassed 86 points in total, 44 of those coming in runs alone.

Nanai scored again from another kick to finish with 53 to keep his price ticking over for those owners who held

Rabbitohs v Bulldogs

And compliments to the chef! Kitchen hands across Australia put their knives down on Friday evening, knowing the best performance from a Cook came from Stadium Australia by a bloke in a red and green jumper!

121 points after scoring three tries, the D Cook of old was back! Owned by only 13% of teams, he has found his running game and Souths draw is, well the stuff of Supercoach gold!

Johnston too found the line twice and was unlucky not to have a third after last week’s dismal 23. He along with a host of other Rabbitohs are prime targets moving forward and should Souths fire, he’s the one likely to go big!

Despite the scoreline, both Ilias and Walker both couldn’t break 50 which is concerning, although the latter is dropping in price very quickly, just how low does he go and then does he become a liability? Absurd to think that.

Taaffe knocked out an impressive 62 which included the goalkicking duties. This was only his second game so this is the week to get him in to avoid missing the large price rise.

For the Dogs, well they keep showing glimpses of a football side. Thompson was busy scoring 77, but they don’t excite me as a Supercoach side. Steer clear.

Panthers v Broncos

Maybe I’m a salty non-Cleary owner, but 150 points? It seemed like all he did was kick the ball!

But in all seriousness, when can we trade him in? For those who jumped the gun and went him early, the faith was restored with a superb 150 point performance to put the brakes on his price drop.

It was a Cleary like performance, having a hand in nearly everything and kicking goals for fun. I’ll be doing my best to get him because whilst Friday was big, it seems a 200+ performance is just around the corner

Taylan May and Izack Tago did ‘MayGo’ tings and are the best duo in Australia at the moment, narrowly beating out the Special Ks

In other news, Kotoni Staggs has gone bang, bang and produced back-to-back 100+ scores against two of the better defensive sides in the comp.

Because of his slow start, he is now in POD territory, owned by 18% of teams. He is still cheapish and might be looking at a blue jumper if his form continues. It’s just good to be rewarded you know!

He has a breakeven of -46 and a looming clash with the Bulldogs, so it may be now or never.

Sea Eagles v Titans

It’s hard to take, but Haumole is the one that got away for me! He has been huge these past few Turboless weeks and as a backrower, there isn’t many in better form.

He scored a double on Saturday giving owners a massive 92 points. His combo with DCE is growing and the tries will certainly come thick and fast throughout the year. Dare I say, the leading try scoring forward? Who wants to take me up on that?

Garrick too has been solid in the 1 jersey and managed 76, but it’s his other winger mate who keeps getting my interest. Saab has not scored over 30 this year and will be priced at $259k. Is it worth trading him in and playing him on matchup based game? I’m seriously considering it! Someone talk me out of it.

Whilst Manly did get the two points (Go Manly) it was David Fifita who set Brookie alight. 120 which included 26 points in tackle busts and offloads alone. Has found some attacking spark over the past weeks and for those running without him, (me) every week I don’t have him is a worry.

Storm v Sharks

These are the types of games you just know you will be watching come September. And it was a big match so naturally Cam Munster stood tall! What’s the opposite of a flat track bully?

He just rises when the big moments come. He scored 96 on Saturday and was the Storm’s leading Supercoach scorer which in a side containing Grant, Papenhuyzen, Hughes and co is no easy feat.

Harry Grant put in another Grant like performance scoring 86. If you are reading this and don’t own him.. I have no words for you!

Coates owners will be pulling their hair out after another sub 20 performance. Is there a player with a bigger difference in their ceiling and their floor? The Sistine Chapel has smaller ceiling to floor ratio than Coates.

And Talakai?! Wow, where did that come from? It’s fair to say he’s the form player of the past month. He was huge again on Saturday night, setting up two beautiful tries to Mulitalo and scoring one himself.

He finished with a massive 114 and will make owners stacks of cash in the coming weeks. The question then is.. Does he become a keeper?

Nicho put in a workman like performance but just couldn’t find the attacking stats that he has shown in the opening month. Stick solid though, the Sharks look a serious side.

Roosters v Warriors

Sunday Arvo at the SCG. James Tedesco needed to channel Usman Khawaja on how to win back the support of his fans and score a big ton because he was more Root than Khawaja on the hallowed turf on Sunday.

A popular captaincy choice for those who still have the Roosters fullback, the decision fell flat as he only managed 57. He will be one of the most traded out players this week and I feel like a dynasty has come to an end.

Sammy Walker finally found his feet and running game. It seemed last week may have given him the confidence he needed as he finished with a solid 81.

Joey Manu crashed back down for owners as he was starved of any real good attacking opportunities and only managed 23 after coming off back-to-back 100+ scores.

AFB led from the front again and looks as good an option as any in the FRF spot. I did let him go so it will take a special performance or two for me to want him back, but I’ve grovelled for forgiveness for less.

Curran left the field with a leg injury but did return to score 59 in 70 minutes. He’s one that I wouldn’t mind trading out, but his scores have been okay and the attacking points are not far off.

Shaun Johnson struggled failing to notch any attacking stats in his 15 points.

Dragons v Knights

Mark down 17 April as the day K Ponga found his feet! He banged out a massive 122 which included – get this, 18 points in tackle busts and 28 points in offloads!! Wow! Whilst I won’t be looking at trading him in anytime soon, it was just good to see he still has that game in him and hopefully this kick-starts his 2022 campaign.

Moses Suli had his best game in the Red V and looks to be a POD leading into the Origin period.

He doesn’t play Round 13 but has put out some pretty solid scores without any attacking stats in the past month.

Brodie Jones knocked out 50 points for those owners who jumped on the cut price 2RF. He played 67 minutes, so he’s a good one to sit and watch the coin come in.

Keep an eye on D Klemmer too. He scored 94 and was attributed 14 attacking points but that’s still monster base stats in 51 minutes.

Eels v Tigers

This was one of those games where you forget about Supercoach for 80 minutes and just enjoy the spectacle that was the Eels and the Tigers! And who would have thought I’d be using the Tigers and spectacle in the same sentence.

It was a belter of a game and whilst most would have been hoping for some massive scores from Brown and Moses, they were well contained by the Tigers yet still managed 70 and 72 respectively.

A lot were riding on either to go break what was a low scoring week for most captain choices barring Cleary.

Isaiah Papali’i is quickly becoming a must-have. No one really thought he could replicate what he did last year, but he has continued on and has just the one score under 65. Pricey, but well worth the investment.
