Squad Breakdown: Analysing the Round 10 teams
2020 NRL SuperCoach runner-up Tim Williams analyses every squad dropped on team list Tuesday.

The previous round delivered a host of monster individual scores, led by the glorious Nicho Hynes with 185 points despite playing alongside a decimated team.
It also delivered a host of poor individual scores to highly owned players such as Kotoni Staggs, Xavier Coates and popular purchases Isaiah Tass and Te Maire Martin.
Unfortunately the Cooma Stallions saw a down turn in form after a lengthy run of green arrows.
We dished out 1,199 points to drop 1,000 spots into 1,800th overall! We’re still well placed, but it certainly wasn’t a week to savour despite finally bringing in Nicho and also owning Teddy.

We’re also closing in on the bye and Origin period, so planning for that should be in full swing and will become a staple of this article in coming months.
Head-to-head focused players need not worry too much about the bye period, plan to get the best 17 you can as quick as possible, while saving trades for finals time in the back end of the season.
For example, someone like Brian To’o who is probably an avoid for overall focused players, may be a serious option for head-to-head players prior to the Origin period.
Likewise, while Izack Tago is a hold for overall, head-to-head players may want to move on if that’s the best decision for your squad.
Do note that there’s a mountain of rain forecast for Brisbane for Magic Round, so take this into consideration across the weekend with your captaincy and sit v start decisions.

Analysis: There’s not a lot to be said about the Bulldogs, however they do play the first major bye round in Round 13.
Tevita Pangai Jnr is the only target I’ll consider, he’s been a little different to most years, with some fairly consistent scoring.
Normally it’s the good with the bad with TPJ, but he’s scoring pretty frequently around his season average of 61 points.
Due to his injury/suspension history, he’s one I’m happy to wait until Round 13 to properly consider buying just in case something goes wrong.
He’s a borderline keeper in the FRF position, albeit that spot is probably taken up by Payne Haas and Isaiah Papali’i long-term.
Max King has scored between 40 and 55 in all bar one game this season. He’ll likely linger around that $400k mark for the season.
I plan to hold him until Round 13, bank his 45 points that week, then move on immediately after.

Analysis: Not a lot to be said about the Knights who are struggling for form and won’t play Round 13.
However they do have a friendly three games against the Bulldogs, Broncos and Warriors leading into that bye round.
Chris Randall jagged a try and 78 points to initiate another timely round of cash generation.
He’s now $429k with a breakeven of 9 and can be moved on anytime before the first bye having done a wonderful job for those who held strong.
For anyone considering Kalyn Ponga at $509k as a Papenhuyzen replacement, he’s scored above 50 just once this season (122 points v Dragons).
He’s always so tempting, but with Origin looming and the Knights form you’d have to see a little more to take that gamble.
David Klemmer is finding SuperCoach form of old with three 70+ scores in has past four games.
He’s scored 76 and 72 in the past fortnight with 58 and 56 in base stats in 65 minutes of game time.
Great numbers, but with no early bye coverage I’m not interested and prefer forwards with higher ceilings, such as TPJ.

Analysis: With Round 13 coverage, Manly are very relevant having hit their straps recently, along with the return of Tommy Trbojevic.
Turbo to me looks the logical Papy replacement.
He’s $908k with a very achievable breakeven of 130, with a decent match up against the Broncos.
Manly do face the Eels and Storm after that though, before Origin comes up for Turbo, so there’s a genuine case to look elsewhere.
Further to that, the wet weather also raises question marks.
However, the options at fullback are surprisingly fairly dour, so why not just lock in the best player in SuperCoach?
It’s a big decision looming for plenty, and one that I’m also torn on.
However, as a non-Munster owner and with Te Maire Martin currently at five-eighth I might just plug him in so I can stop closing my eyes when Melbourne play.

Reuben Garrick is a prime target prior to Round 13, averaging 63 points this season, and now his main man Turbo is back to feed him try after try.
Christian Tuipulotu has been a gift for anyone who jumped on early, rising to $377k with a breakeven of -31.
He’ll be the one that got away for most, but with that bye coverage I think you can still buy if interested.
Tolutau Koula has a big score coming, he’s a gun and will provide valuable coverage up until Round 13.
Ben Trbojevic is a bit of a funny one, he looks an absolute lock as dual 2RF-CTW (perfect for Tass and Talakai come round 12 when duals kick in), at $188k with a breakeven of -51 and will play round 13.
All signs point to buying, but job security is a concern with Morgan Harper lurking.
Burbo could easily revert to a bench role and become a trap, his defence wasn’t great against the Tigers so I’m a little hesitant.
Wanting to stray away from the crowd? As a Papy replacement, anyone with Hynes at halfback could flick him to fullback and bring in Daly Cherry-Evans at halfback, just a thought…

Analysis: Payne Haas returns in a relief for owners.
Pat Carrigan was immense in his absence, playing 64 minutes for 92 points with 62 in base stats.
With no Round 13 coverage and a potential Origin selection looming I’m not keen, but monitor down the track.
For the same reasons above, Kotoni Staggs, the FIFO worker as Nick Moon likes to call him, is a potential sell for anyone with minimal headaches in their side.
We know how big he can go, but geez he’s hard to nail and has some serious down weeks in between.
You can hardly even play him based on match ups as he seems to go large against gun teams!
I’m holding as I have other players I’m happy to focus on upgrading, however at $550k with a breakeven of 83 it is worth some thought, he’s only averaging 52 points.
Te Maire Martin flopped for new owners with a score of just 16, plenty will be hoping he produces a decent score to initiate more price rises before a likely Round 13 upgrade.

Analysis: Despite providing round 13 coverage, I have no interest in Warriors players on current form.
This could of course change before the bye round kicks into gear, but for now I’ll be avoiding.
Euan Aitken is a hold until then for any owners, while Tohu Harris will be a close watch on return having been named in the starting side.
With likely reduced minutes, he could be a bargain pick up before Round 13.
Viliame Vailea will be hoping he does enough to hold his spot for that round, although with a base of just 17 he really needs tries to produce a worthwhile score.

Analysis: South Sydney just don’t look themselves and will be desperate for Latrell Mitchell to return to inject some life back into them.
While we knew he was a sell pre-round 13 anyway, Jai Arrow managed just 28 points in 58 minutes against the Broncos to sit with a breakeven of 77.
He’s a sell any time in coming weeks but isn’t urgent as such, particularly as he may play bigger minutes with Cam Murray out for up to a month.
The move to lock bodes well for him, so I’m keen to see how he goes there. I suspect he’ll play 60 odd minutes and could punch out some huge numbers.
With upcoming games against the Warriors, Raiders and Tigers, the Bunnies have the chance to find some form in both NRL and SuperCoach.
On form I wouldn’t be keen to invest, but the likes of Walker, Graham, Tass, AJ and Taaffe are all holds for the time being.
A lesson in terms of selling players before they peak in price, I moved on Taaffe last week well before he was due to peak in price which would seem against the norm.
It was to get in Nicho Hynes who scored 185 points. Basically, never be afraid to move a cash cow on early if it means getting a proven gun into your side.
Isaiah Tass has been dropped for anyone who jumped on last week, although dropped entirely is a better result than on the bench.

Analysis: Despite the Round 13 coverage, I have no interest in the Titans at the moment due to some abysmal form.
Like the Warriors, this could easily change with a few good performances, but we’ll want to see something before investing.
If you’ve held this long, Beau Fermor will be a handy man for Round 13 and he managed to salvage 67 points with a try against the Roosters.

Coates = Breakeven 47, potential sell prior to Round 13. Sit outside 17s this week v Penrith in the wet.
B.Smith = Could be a bargain buy from Round 14 through Origin period with bigger minutes.
Meaney = POD option at fullback with Papy out, -5 breakeven, but prefer others with Panthers, Cowboys, Manly and bye coming up.

Analysis: Penrith have three tough weeks against the Storm, Roosters and Cowboys coming up, before facing the Bulldogs without their Origin contingent in Round 13.
Brian To’o returned with a bang, scoring 81 including 51 in base, seriously?
With a breakeven of 116 and a tough draw, I’ll be eyeing him for Round 14 onwards.
Taylan May and Izack Tago are absolute holds until Round 13, we can then consider selling afterwards.
I thinking May is a season-long keeper, while Tago I’ll probably move on afterwards.
However, we don’t necessarily need to play them in 17s every week pending match ups.
Viliame Kikau will be a handy Round 13 number for owners, while Liam Martin is starting to hit the skids and is likely to play Origin, therefore can be moved on any time.

Analysis: The Sharkies showed stunning resilience to down the Warriors with 12, and at one stage 11 men.
They have two nice matches coming up against the Raiders and Titans, before facing the Roosters into the bye.
Nicho Hynes is a must-have, obviously. Find a way as he could easily go 150+ again in the next two weeks. He’s a serious captaincy option.
Plenty are selling Siosifa Talakai, I think that’s crazy.
He’s about to get dual 2RF-CTW status and is a season long keeper. Yes he has a breakeven of 163, but imagine not owning the bloke on current form?
If the Sharks had 13 players the whole game against the Warriors he’d have scored 130, while it took some stunning Kotoni Staggs defence to keep him at bay the week prior.
With Dale Finucane back, Cam McInnes kept his starting role at lock and played 64 minutes for 63 points.
He’s a genuine option at 2RF-HOK now, likely for Chris Randall, although with no Round 13 coverage I’d probably lean towards someone like Reuben Cotter.
He has been named on the bench again but there’s every chance he starts come game day.

Analysis: Despite coming off a win, and providing Round 13 coverage, I’m not overly interested in any Raiders players.
Adam Elliott is the only real option at $428k with a -22 breakeven.
However, I don’t trust Ricky Stuart with his minutes all the way through till Round 13.
Further, the club are in the market for a hooker, so if they sign one before then his minutes are likely to reduce by a reasonable chunk.
Tom Starling remains a reluctant hold until Round 13 before being sold afterwards.

Analysis: The Roosters have a brutal upcoming run against the Eels, Panthers and Sharks, before playing the Raiders in Round 13.
After that, they face the Storm, Eels and Panthers into the Round 17 bye! That’s about as hard as it gets.
As such, I’d be very reluctant to invest in any players despite the early bye coverage.
James Tedesco has surged back to form with a three round average of 99 points, following his 128 point effort against the Titans.
Joseph Suaalii has made $100k and has more rises to come with a -14 breakeven, however with that draw I think the ship has sailed.
I’ll likely be sitting him outside my 17 up until Round 13.
Angus Crichton played 80 minutes again, but with reports of him potentially moving on from the club, will the game time continue? I have no idea…

Analysis: With tough games against the Roosters and Sea Eagles coming up and no Round 13 coverage, it’s time to really consider whether Eels players are season long keepers or whether they should be moved on.
Granted this should have been a thought last week before the Penrith clash.
Isaiah Papali’i needs no deep dive, he’s a terrific buy and will be a must-have for Round 17, so there’s no harm in just locking him in now.
Will Penisini has more than done his job, but I don’t see him as a keeper and would be looking to move on if I still owned.
Ryan Matterson is on a tear, but he also hasn’t played over 56 minutes since Round 5. Add in a possible Origin call up and I can’t go near him unless he reverts to an 80 minute role.

I’m eyeing a Randall-Cotter trade in Round 13.
I’d go early due to Cotter’s excellent form, and the fact he’s played 75 and 80 minutes the past two weeks, however an Origin call up is possible so I’ll likely wait.
In those games he had a ridiculous 75 and 62 points in base stats.
While not a must, Jason Taumalolo should be a key target for Round 13.
