Draft Breakdown: Round 11, waiver-wire, trade targets

We are now halfway through the regular season for most draft comps and it’s time to do a mid-year review.

Is your draft team the Panthers or the Storm of your comp? Dominating with only very minor hiccups and should easily secure one of the top positions on the ladder?

Or perhaps you are a Roosters or Eels that have the potential to beat the best teams on their day but aren’t playing consistent footy yet.

Or are you the Titans or Knights, relying solely on a few stars to be relevant.

Personally, I think most of my teams are the Sharks, one week they look like world beaters, the next week I have an unexpected loss.

Last week was one of those weeks. Trindall was a terrible call as top priority waiver.

The Sharks may give him another go, but he isn’t passing the eye test or worrying the SuperCoach scorers. We move on and go again.

The below players are still available on 65% of leagues as free agency pickups.

TOP PRIORITY WAIVERS

Thomas Flegler

I was surprised to see Flegler owned by so little, averaging 50 PPG in an inconsistent position this year.

He has only played five games and his score has been affected by a sin-binning, so I expect to see him averaging 55+ by the end of the season.

Flegler is getting a lot of his points from his offload and will continue to pump out 55+ scores whilst he is offloading with or without Haas.

Nat Butcher

Butcher has been given the Roosters’ lock position with Radley facing six to eight weeks on the sideline with injury and Sam Verrils also out for an extended period with a broken collarbone.

Butcher often has periods of SuperCoach relevance when injuries strike the Roosters.

He averaged 55 PPG last year and 54 PPG in 2020 in the seven games he started.

He gets through a lot of work and just needs minutes to be relevant, hence his good averages when getting a starting gig.

You can expect 50+ PPG whilst the Roosters have these injuries and the minutes to go around.

VALUE WAIVERS

Lachlan Miller

Miller has been called in to the fullback role after the Sharks failed to produce last week.

Whilst only a one week play, it’s the perfect week to play Miller.

The Sharks will be coming up against the Titans on a dry track at Cbus Stadium.

The Sharks will also be looking to bounce back from a poor game against the Raiders.

The Titans just played 90 minutes of tough footy and are a good chance to be content in their win last week.

Miller comes from sevens rugby and has been killing it in NSW cup. He is super light on his feet and can step through the smallest of gaps.

Tyran Wishart

Wishart didn’t have the best week at fullback against the Panthers in horrible conditions, but has been named there again.

He had five errors (-10 in SuperCoach points) which is horrible. However, on the positive side, he still managed to score 29 points with all those errors and nothing going his way.

Keep an eye on late mail, as I do think there’s a good chance he shifts back to the bench and Meaney takes the fullback role on game day.

If he gets another chance, albeit against the Cowboys side, I think he can get a 50+ score on anyone who isn’t the Panthers.

Trent Peoples

Peoples gets a few weeks at 2RF with Souths missing Murray and Jacob Host.

In his debut game, Peoples scored 68 points in 63 minutes on Souths left edge.

I only have one game to go by, but he has shown some good work ethic and has potential if he can keep it up.

Ones to watch

Jordan Pereira

If Te Maire Martin or Adam Reynolds get ruled out, Pereira will come in on the wing. Traditionally he is a hard worker with great base stats and is worthy of a gig in a rising Broncos team.

Anthony Milford

Milford has long been past his best, but he has the potential if he can recapture any form at the Knights. Stash if desperate for 5/8, but he does need a lot of things to go his way to be relevant.

Trade IN targets

Josh Schuster

Schuster hasn’t had a preseason and is coming off a couple of lower leg injuries for only his second game of the year.

It will take some time for him to get match fitness up and we can expect him to play limited minutes for a number of weeks.

The Sea Eagles also have some tough opposition in the coming weeks and combined with limited minutes, Schuster likely will have some low scores.

The next few weeks is the perfect time to target him and he is a gun once fit and firing come draft finals time.

Trade OUT targets

David Klemmer

Klemmer has been getting over 60 minutes per game in the past three weeks and has a nice three round average of 73 PPG.

The increase in his minutes coincided with the Knights being severely depleted in the forwards.

To be fair, Klemmer has looked really good for the Knights but it’s a big increase on his 52 MPG he averaged last year.

I am confident Adam O’Brien will tinker with his packs minutes and this is Klemmer’s peak.

So now is the time to sell him.
