Analysing the top 100,000 AFL Supercoach teams after Round 13

G’day AFL supercoaches.  As outlined previously, the player ownership stats on the AFL Supercoach site are misleading.  To make better decisions, it is helpful to cut the ownership of each player by ranking zone.

I’m fortunate enough to run a data analytics business so I’ve put my skills to work to calculate the actual ownership of each player. 

The tables below set out the proportion of teams in the top 500, top 1,000, top 5,000, top 10,000, top 20,000, top 50,000 and top 100,000 that own each player by position.   

Without further ado, let’s get into this week’s data.

DEF

After coming onto the bubble last week, Jacob Wehr is hot property at the moment, and for good reason too!

James Sicily continues to stake his claim as #1 Defender, and if you owned him from the very start, you’re likely to be pretty high up in the rankings.

After maxing out in price, and having his bye last week, Sam De Koning’s ownership has dropped rapidly.

MID

After his 89 in Round 11, Mitch Owens was one of the most traded in players last week; except a concussion in Round 13 left him with just a 26, and many owners frustrated.

The major differential in this bunch is Clayton Oliver, who is owned by 95% of the top 1000, compared to just 68% of the top 100,000.

A successful debut last week means that Judson Clarke has found his way into 32% of the top 500 teams, but for the 10% of people inside the top 500, Dayne Zorko presents a confronting issue.

If you’re looking for major POD, David Swallow proves an incredible option to boost yourself up the rankings this week. Owned by just 1%, and at just $483,100, he’s made a move to the middle in the second half the year, and has scored 123, 101, 119, 94, and 97 since.

RUC

Gawn owners find themselves in a tricky position, and for the 24% of the top 1000 who don’t have them, it’s a great opportunity for them to climb up the rankings. Jarrod Witts is the most popular trade option coming off his bye, but Tim English is certainly making a case.

Debuting this week, the top 20,000 have been quick to pounce on RUC/FWD rookie, Brynn Teakle.

Darcy Cameron proved to be a popular trade in last week for the top 1000 to seperate themselves from the pack.

FWD

Even though Fyfe is back, Will Brodie is still incredibly popular, but owners have steadily moved on Nic Martin.

Since Round 9, Stephen Coniglio has found his way out of 15% of the top 500, but those 15% will be heavily regretting that decision after his 174 last week.

Despite being on his bye last week, Patty McCartin is still a very popular option for owners. He still has some money to make.
