Weekly wrap: Round 16 studs, duds, injuries

Once again, it was a weekend in which I watched literally ZERO footy games (it’s 21^st season for me, give me a break), and look what happened!!

With three 130+ scores in a row, Jordan Dawson (144) is slowly becoming my best trade in of the season; but there’s no doubt that my best hold is Nick Daicos (143), who deservedly takes out the GOAT Medal this week.

Elsewhere in my defence, Jack Crisp (79) and Jayden Short (82) performed exceedingly below expectations, and Scott Pendlebury (71) couldn’t back up his stellar performance from last week’s 130.

In midfield, I made the grave (and ultimately stupid) decision to take Laird (130) as a POD skipper instead of Oliver (176). Not sure what was going through my head there?? If there are any doctors reading this, is it possible to experience pre-drinking drunkness? Maybe like when you hear stories of people who can see into the future and then start to actually feel the pain/whatever that they envisioned? Sorry… I’m rambling.

The plan last week was always to hold strong and not make any trades, but Friday night loomed around, and it became evident that Luke Jackson wasn’t going to make the trip. One week in, one week out… BRUH. So, I brought in the only logical replacement: Jarrod Witts who was playing against a much smaller, inexperienced, lighter ruckman in Darcy Cameron… 63, are you KIDDING?!

Forward line is OP though. Bont (108), Coniglio (105), Brodie (96), Dunkley (100), Parker (98), and Himmelberg (101) are all insane. I don’t need to go into any further detail, I start blushing just at the thought of them.

I’m still clinging narrowly onto a hopeful top 5000 spot, this week I scored 2546 which boosted me up 1780 spots to 12,932^nd.

Once again, there aren’t really any trades I need to make so for the second week in a row, I’ll try and hold strong. I’ve got three trades left, and I’d like to save them for when Wehr maxes out in price to downgrade him and use my remaining two trades to sideways trade some underperforming players.

But… Nothing ever goes to plan in this game, does it?

Brisbane v Western Bulldogs

The Lions bounced back from last week’s reality check to propel them into the top 4 and dampen the Doggies’ top 8 chances.

Dayne Zorko (6) and Daniel Rich (49) left the field quite early with hammy issues, but Lachie Neale (135) manages to fill the void and put on a dominant midfield display.

If it wasn’t for a third quarter masterclass from Charlie Cameron (137), the score may have looked a bit different, kicking two goals and dishing out a further three direct assists.

Hugh McCluggage (93) and Jarrod Berry (101) were good without being great, but the standout performance came from Keidean Coleman (118) who fully took the reins of half-back distributor after Rich did his hammy. Depending on how long Rich is out for, Coleman could be a very handy pick up at just $437,300.

James Tunstill (73), is now on the bubble and looks like the #1 rookie option this week if you’re looking at making any trades.

Marcus Bontempelli (108), Adam Treloar (109), Josh Dunkley (100), and Jack Macrae (104) all had the ball on a string, but Tom Liberatore (144) brought his own footy to the game. If he’s not one of the most traded in players this week, I will lose my shi*.

With Caleb Daniel out, Bailey Dale (134) collected 32 touches and 5 marks, and with four 110+ scores in his last five games, he looms as a great POD option.

Dominic Bedendo (41) had a sizzling first quarter on debut but faded throughout the game. Should have done enough to keep his spot though.

Injuries – Dayne Zorko will be out for a while after re-injuring his hammy, and while Rich sustained a similar injury, I’m hearing that he may just be out for one week. Adam Treloar also tweaked his hammy and was subbed off in the last quarter.

Carlton v St Kilda

This was a must-win game for both sides, with the Blues looking for a top 4 spot, and the Saints craving a finals chance. With the win, the Saints go into equal 7^th, but Carlton are a game outside the four.

From a SuperCoach perspective, the Blues really not providing a whole lot, with only two 100+ scores coming the way of Adam Saad (124) and Sam Walsh (115).

Sam Docherty (75) and Patrick Cripps (98) have fallen off a cliff in recent weeks, especially Crippa who only has two tons in his last seven games… If you’ve got some spare trades, I wouldn’t be opposed to flicking him out.

George Hewett (87) and Matthew Kennedy (96) were both solid.

Jack Sinclair (150) was back to his piggish ways, racking up 37 touches and 11 marks on his way to the biggest score of his SuperCoach career!

Jack Steele (107) certainly hasn’t missed a beat since returning from injury but has had a severe impact on the scoring of Brad Crouch (80) and Jade Gresham (76).

Rowan Marshall (79) was serviceable for the second week in a row, but unfortunately had to share the ruck duties with Patty Ryder (106) who came back from injury. The day Marshall becomes the clear #1 ruck is going to be a very good day indeed.

Tim Membrey (92) and Max King (82) booted seven goals between them!

Injuries – Dougal Howard was subbed off with a knee injury in the second quarter. Hunter Clark was stretchered off in the last quarter after a pretty sickening head clash with Dan Butler who also looked a bit groggy.

Essendon v Sydney

So, the Bombers lose to West Coast but now beat Sydney the week after?? Wtaf…

Zach Merrett (140) was incredible! Although he only had 24 touches, he managed to rack up six marks, six tackles, and kicked a whopping THREE goals.

Nick Hind (118), Mason Redman (102), and Jordan Ridley (80) all found plenty of the footy off half back; while the young guns, Massimo D’Ambrosio (83), Nicholas Martin (70), and Ben Hobbs (78) all put up a vital performance.

Darcy Parish (112) bounced back from his 51 last week, and quite surprisingly, has only dropped under 109 once since Round 4.

Chad Warner (155) and Luke Parker (98) were tough in the middle, but the same can’t be said for Callum Mills (85) who no doubt would have severely disappointed his owners (especially those who had him captain).

Jake Lloyd (89) was solid for the second week in a row, but Isaac Heeney (67) looked out of it all day.

Injuries – nil.

Adelaide v Melbourne

The Crows couldn’t quite pull off their heroics from last season’s matchup against the Dees at Adelaide Oval, but geez they put up a spirited effort.

Well… Where to start with the Crows?

Let’s just say that in terms of SuperCoach scoring, their midfield is up there with the Bulldogs’. Laird (130), ROB (127), and Keays (124) have all been superb this year, and Friday arvo was no different.

Jordan Dawson (144) off half back was amazing for three quarters, but then got moved forward?? Whatever floats ya boat Nicksy.

Jake Soligo (71) continues to impress in his first season, but Patrick Parnell (48) and Jackson Hately (47) were disappointing.

Speaking of elite midfields, Christian Petracca (189), Clayton Oliver (176), and Ed Langdon (150) were ENOURMOUS, with Trac kicking three goals to go along with his 33 disposals.

Angus Brayshaw (83) was slightly quiet off half back, but Christian Salem (89) and Steven May (108) were brilliant.

Injuries – Jordan Butts came off looking very ginger after copping a right hook to the rib. Darcy Fogarty had a sickening dislocated finger.

Geelong v North Melbourne

This was probably the most expected result of the round, with Norf copping an absolute 112-point shellacking.

Jeremy Cameron (117) and Tom Hawkins (129) combined for 10 goals and 20 marks, with Cameron notching up 30 touches.

Cam Guthrie (134) scored his sixth ton in a row, while in his 250th, Mitch Duncan (121) got his highest score of the year.

Patty Dangerfield (96) returned with a bang, Tom Atkins (98) was back in the middle, and Mark Blicavs (118) continued his insane season.

It was an extremely sad day for anyone who thought bringing in Aaron Hall (18) was a good idea. He was on fire until he pulled a quad and was subsequently subbed out in the first quarter.

LDU (124) had one of his best games of the year, collecting 35 touches; and Jy Simpkin (93) gave his best effort to try and will his team onto a slightly more respectable loss.

Injuries – Jake Kolodjashnij failed a concussion test and was subbed off in the third quarter, as did Kayne Turner in the first quarter. As mentioned before, Aaron Halls unlucky run with injury continued, with the poor bloke in tears after pulling his quad.

Gold Coast v Collingwood

A ripper of a Saturday night game with the Pies just edging out the Suns to get the win and dampen their top 8 chances.

Touk Miller (153) was everywhere against the Pies! It’s so good to see his tackle numbers up again, and congratulations if you had him captain.

Noah Anderson (132) and Matthew Rowell (113) shared the load in the middle, and David Swallow (84) was solid as he has been all season.

Izak Rankine (110) maintained his career-best run of form with another four goals to his name. Since Round 8, he has a low score of just 88.

On debut for me, Jarrod Witts (63) was atrocious; and on debut for the Suns, James Tsitas (26) didn’t do a whole lot either.

I cannot (literally) describe my love for Nick Daicos (143) who was OUTSTANDING. The kid is soooooooooooo fricken good I can’t even comprehend how good he is. 37 touches…

Steele Sidebottom (92) and Josh Daicos (101) were silky on the wing, as was Brayden Maynard (106) in defence.

Darcy Cameron (95) held his own in the ruck and played superbly around the ground, but Jack Crisp (79) seems to have a hit a bit of a wall in the last few weeks.

Injuries – Connor Budarick did something to his right leg in the last quarter. Darcy Moore hyperextended his knee and was stretchered off the ground but was later cleared of any serious damage.

Reports – nil.

Richmond v West Coast

I think it’s safe to assume that the vast majority expected complete and utter domination from Richmond, but the Eagles fought all the way to the end and elevated their status from worst team in the league to second worst team in the league.

Marlion Pickett (120) had a superb game on the wing, while Nathan Broad (115) and Daniel Rioli (127) took 16 marks between them and were brilliant in defence.

Jayden Short (82) continues to be bang on average, whereas Liam Baker (90) continues to revel in his midfield role, and Toby Nankervis (95) kept his high-scoring season going.

Shai Bolton (102) was the bright spark the Tigers needed to get over the line, with four free kicks gifted to him certainly contributing to his final score.

Dustin Martin (92) was looking incredible until he was subbed off with a hamstring precaution in the third quarter.

Nic Nat (119) and Tim Kelly (127) came back from the dead!!

Shannon Hurn (116) and his ageing old body are still going strong, but unfortunately the same can’t be said for Elliot Yeo (63) who was subbed out with a hammy injury in the third quarter.

Brady Hough (71) has been a revelation since coming back into the side – congrats if you held him this long! (Like me hehe).

Injuries – Dusty subbed off with hamstring awareness. Elliot Yeo subbed off with a tweaked hammy.

GWS v Hawthorn

Ahh my Hawks… You gave it a red-hot crack at the start of the year, but I think the hype is starting to fade. #MITCHELLOUT. Haha kidding (haha).

Tim Taranto (111), Josh Kelly (121), Stephen Coniglio (105), Lachie Whitfield (96), and Matthew Flynn (105) were elite through the middle of the ground.

Callum M. Brown (102) came into the side as a late change and took hold of the opportunity with both hands, booting four goals. He’s probably too expensive to consider ($182,900) but wait and see if he can back it up again next week.

Jesse Hogan (105) was arguably best on, finishing with 22 touches, 8 marks, and 2 goals.

Jacob Wehr (89) keeps scoring alarmingly well in his first year, and I reckon we can roll with him right through to the end.

Having a quiet day by his standards, Harry Himmelberg (101) only gathered 18 touches and 3 marks, but still managed to ton up largely thanks to his 83% disposal efficiency.

The Tom Mitchell (118) rollercoaster continues to move up and down and up and down, but he was back to his piggish self on Sunday, with a breezy 35 touches and 7 tackles.

Harry Morrison (100), Jaeger O’Meara (85), and Ned Reeves (95) were all solid through midfield, as was Dylan Moore (90) up forward.

Down back, despite only taking one mark, James Sicily (139) was dominant as per.

Injuries – James Worpel dislocated his shoulder and was subbed off early.

Reports – Will Day was reported for a high bump on Josh Kelly in the third quarter.

Fremantle v Port Adelaide

Game of the week in the last game of the round??

There are a lot of incredible midfields in the comp, but Fremantle definitely have one of the most in-form ones! Andrew Brayshaw (134), Sean Darcy (124), Will Brodie (96), and Caleb Serong (105) were all outstanding.

James Aish (113) had two goals and 22 touches at half time but managed to only grab a further seven touches after that.

Rory Lobb (98) kicked five goals, while Luke Ryan (93) and Hayden Young (58) shared 15 marks between them.

Ollie Wines (119) and Travis Boak (112) ran the Power midfield to almost perfection.

Connor Rozee (98) had an extremely quiet first half but exploded in the second, whereas Dan Houston (62) was generally just quiet all day long.

Jase Burgoyne (65) showed a ton of promise on debut and will definitely have done enough to warrant a spot in the team next week.

Injuries – Matt Taberner subbed off in the last with a soft tissue injury. Lachie Jones subbed off in the third with a hammy injury.

Reports – nil.
