Weekly Wrap: Round 17 stars, flops, injuries

Oh, what a difference a week makes! Last week flying high, this week I was too scared to look! All that bye planning for nothing! I thought I had planned well with players like Hynes, Matterson, Graham and Peoples, and not one of those there played a single minute…

And to make my weekend worse, I traded in Alex Johnston for Campbell Graham and got waylaid before kickoff. So, you could sense my disgust when Richard Kennar bagged a hattrick, whilst I was frantically searching the field for AJ’s whereabouts!

Ah well it will be smooth sailing from here on in… I hope! The planning is behind us, and we are on the home straight! Still a very tricky 8 rounds to go, and with trades running low, we may be left looking at G Anderson from here until end of lockout in Round 25.

The Nonfungible Turbos managed a mediocre 676 and dropped 60 spots to 706 overall. Aiming for top 1000 so let’s hope this is where I stay!

Sharks v Storm

Well, this game just kicked off what was shaping as a bludger of a weekend for most. Hynes was ruled out which affected nearly everyone playing still, so all eyes turned to Papi so see if he could replicate last week’s monster score.

He didn’t.

931K for 49 points… He couldn’t replicate last week’s effort and a disallowed try late in the game and drove the dagger deeper into our chests. Those who went Latrell over him would have had a nervous 80 minutes but ultimately, they made the right call. I just wouldn’t like to be a non-owner for the next 8 weeks

Brandon Smith set a try up but let his mouth get the better of him and was binned for politely telling the referee how to do his job. Will await his fate at the judiciary.

McInnes had a blinder scoring 72, whilst Jesse Ramien turned into a mix of Kotoni Talakai or Siosifa Staggs top scoring for the match with 133 of the finest Supercoach points

Knights v Rabbitohs

Oh, aren’t these next 8 weeks going to be interesting! Trell back firing, Cody seemingly back to his best and a South side desperate to win! There will be some scores and I want in!

Cody was electric setting up 3 tries and scoring a double for himself, he made sure my weekend didn’t end with me going AWOL and deleting my social media accounts. His combination with Latrell will only get better and although I had him as a trade out, he may come in handy dependent on the matchup.

Latrell scored 93, backing up last week’s 99. He may not have the ceiling of a Papenhuyzen but I would not back against him going large before the year is out. Him playing with confidence is a scary prospect.

Klemmer scored his first try since playing for the All Saints Toongabbie Tigers, but all that hard work came undone in the final seconds, as he was marched for a forearm to the head. Still managed an impressive 73 and has escaped a ban.

Chris Randall has done a job and with the return of Brailey, will see him become very irrelevant from Monday onwards. His 49 came at just the right time.

Tigers v Eels

I was worried this was going to happen. A Mitch Moses masterclass (Yuck) against the Tigers in Round 17. Like a Davey Warner century against the West Indies on an Adelaide Oval Road, anything less than 100 for him would have been a failure. His 115 set up many owners, and with Papi’s early fail, the captaincy choice was a simple one and owners reaped the rewards.

He set up a Papali’i with a nice kick in behind as the tireless backrower banged out a very solid 90. Another popular captaincy choice and one I overlooked. I went with Dylan Brown who set Sivo up early, and just couldn’t make his mark on the game.

The Tigers nearly used the magic of Leichhardt to sneak home but just lacked that genuine game awareness. Joe O didn’t quite have that base heavy game, but still managed 64 in his 70 odd minutes. He was ably supported by one of my new favourites Fonua Pole! What a beast! Scored a very handy 48 for those who took the downgrade option and looks like first grade is where he will stay

Broncos v Dragons

Sunday arvo at Suncorp! There should be more of it, and if there was more of it we would see a lot more of what Kotoni dished up that’s for sure! What a beast! The afternoon game seemed to help as he got his hands on some good early footy. Tesi Niu seemed to help his game as the pair ran riot.

Staggs finished with a season high 103 with a double whilst Niu had the game of the weekend, amassing a monster 140. He is available at CTW as well as FLB. Those with a few trades up their sleeves might consider jumping on. He will hold the fullback spot for now

Ezra Man bagged a try and scored 69. Good for owners as he will increase in price and will be a popular trade in the coming weeks. Copped a HIA late.

The Dragons are just warming a top 8 seat. I think they can go ahead and book their September holidays. Despite the drubbing my boy Moses Suli was strong again, although did get showed up by Kotoni. His 74 was his 4^th score of 60 and above in a row.
