Tag watch: Players to be wary of, Round 23

We’re into our final week of the 2022 SuperCoach season, so hopefully you’re all in as many Grand Finals as possible!

Last week was extremely successful for my credibility as a tag expert, with 4/5 correct picks. Instead of tagging Daniel Rich, the Saints just opted for the single tag on Lachie Neale (76) who was absolutely dominated by Marcus Windhager.

Andrew Brayshaw (106) was tagged by Jackson Nelson from the Eagles, but still managed to ton up luckily; and although Libba (95) was tagged by Harry Perryman, his six clearances and 95% disposal efficiency ensured he still scored well.

To round out the week, as expected, the Swans chose to tag a 19-year-old kid and limited Nick Daicos (62) to his lowest score since Round 11.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the matchups this week to make sure that the players you decide to bring in won’t stink it up on debut.

Andrew Brayshaw v GWS

Harry Perryman played an outstanding game last week against Libba and the dogs, keeping him to just 20 touches, 1 mark, and 3 tackles, while also racking up a whopping 14 tackles himself! I have no doubts that Andy will get tagged, and if history is anything to go by, the Giants definitely know how to follow an opposition player around an oval.

Tom Liberatore v Hawthorn

There’s almost no debate anymore, Finn Maginness is up there with one of the best taggers in the game at the moment. He’s been crafting a very good-looking resume over the last month and a bit, and he can now add Shai Bolton (57) to his list of experience after keeping the Tiger to just 13 touches. Again, it’s really a lottery for who cops the tag in this Bulldogs midfield, but I suspect it will be Libba. If it’s not him, look out Jack Macrae!

Jack Sinclair v Sydney

Lock it in Eddie!! This is for sure my most confident pick for this week, with Ryan Clarke ready and waiting to wear Jack Sinclair like a glove on Sunday afternoon. The writing was on the wall for Nick Daicos on the weekend, and Clarke sent the kid straight back to school with that masterclass in tagging. I’m extremely glad I’m not a Sinclair owner, because the last time these two met, he was tagged to his lowest score of the year…

Luke Parker/Chad Warner v St Kilda

Many SuperCoaches are wary of Callum Mills potentially copping the Windhager/Owens tag, but I think Mills is such a two-way runner that there’s not a lot of point in putting any attention into him. Luke Parker and Chad Warner on the other hand are much more attacking threats, and I’m extremely confident that one of either Windhager or Owens goes to one of Parker or Warner.
