Analysing the top 100,000 NRL Supercoach teams after Round 24

Just one week to go – and what an interesting week it promises to be!  

Having grafted away for 24 rounds, NRL Supercoaches have been dealt one final (but not unexpected) challenge – player restings.

With the Panthers resting their entire squad and several other highly owned players being unavailable, many teams are struggling to field a side this week.

The focus of this week’s article will be on the extent of the damage.

FLB

top 5,000, top 10,000, top 20,000 and top 100,000 that own each fullback who is currently unavailable this week.  I have done my best not to repeat dual position players throughout the tables.

CTW

CTW is where it starts getting more interesting.  As an example, on average, the top 100 teams have 3.5 CTWs unavailable.  Some of those players are dual position, but it gives you an idea of the damage.  Tago, May and Anderson are each owned by 60-70% of the top 100, whilst Garrick, To’o and Shannon Harris are each owned by over 25%.

5/8-HFB

With Nathan Cleary, Jahrome Hughes and (likely) Ezra Mam not playing, on average the top 1,000 teams have 0.7 halves unavailable for selection this week.

2RF

On average, the top 1,000 teams have 1.3 players unavailable at 2RF.  These are primarily ‘nuffs’, with the exception of Kikau, Yeo and Barnett.

FRF

On average the top 1,000 teams have 0.2 players unavailable at FRF.  These are primarily nuffs.

HOK

Damien Cook’s COVID impacts not just Damien but 31% of the top 1,000 teams – and 5 of the top 10.  Between Cook, Koroisau and Bronson Garlick, the top 1,000 teams have 0.6 players unavailable at hooker on average.

On average, the top 10,000 teams have 6.8 players unavailable already this week.  The top 10 have 6.7 unavailable including two teams with 9 and 10 players unavailable respectively. 

Note that many of those teams with 17 players available will need to start guys that they wouldn’t ordinarily start…the likes of Ben Trbojevic, Zac Hosking, Chris Randall, Josh Schuster, Ethan Bullemor etc.

On average, the top 10,000 teams have 6.7 players unavailable already this week.  The top 10 also have 6.7 unavailable including two teams with 9 and 10 players unavailable respectively. 

Note that many of those teams with 17 players available will need to start guys that they wouldn’t ordinarily start…the likes of Ben Trbojevic, Zac Hosking, Chris Randall, Josh Schuster, Ethan Bullemor etc.

Remaining Trades

Apologies…the first draft of this article picked up the wrong trades data.

Of the top 100 teams, 68 are out of trades, 26 have one trade, 4 have two trades and 2 have 3 trades (but no boost!).  Only one of the 12 teams with 9 or more players available have sufficient trades left to field a team.

The table below sets out how many trades and players out we have in our league.  Thankfully none of us are playing short but that could change very quickly.  In saying that, we also have a decent number of trades left amongst us so at least we have practised what we preached!
