Bundy NRL Mixer: Game week three tactics

We’re excited to be on board with the inaugural Bundy Mixer season, the NRL Fantasy campaign running from the final few rounds of the competition through until the NRL and NRLW grand finals.

For anyone new to the concept, you choose six players each week, three male, three female, across six positions.

For any SuperCoaches trying their hand at NRL Fantasy for the first time, essentially the point scoring system is tailored further towards workers than attackers.

For example, you accrue one point per tackle, as per SuperCoach, but only eight points per try, rather than the 17 we’re used to.

When considering attacking players, tacklebreaks and offloads score significantly, so consider this when making your selections.

HOOKER

NRL: Reece Robson – I’m targeting the Cowboys v Panthers clash this week as I think the home side will put a score on the NSW Cup Penrith outfit. While there’s some risk of an early spell for Robson, I think he can get amongst the attacking stat before he does.

NRLW: Brittany Breayley-Nati – Another star of the NRLW competition who was comfortably the top scoring dummy-half in the opening week. Breayley-Nati notched 38 tackles against the Dragons in the opener, then had 22 tackles, three tacklebreaks and an offload against the Knights in Round 2.

MIDDLE FORWARD

NRL: Pat Carrigan – Popular options such as Joe Tapine and Cam Murray are chances at a rest this week, so I’m steering clear and opting for Carrigan who returns from a lengthy suspension in a must-win game for Brisbane.

NRLW: Amber Hall – Listed as a middle forward, Hall plays more as an edge back-rower in big minutes. She topped the competition last year for offloads, and finished fifth for tacklebreaks. Due to being listed as a middle, it means we can’t have her and Millie Boyle, not ideal! However, it means she’s a point of difference as many flock to Boyle and Simaima Taufa.

EDGE FORWARD

NRL: David Fifita – Fifita gets a promising day fixture against the leaky Warriors in Auckland on Saturday. He’s returning to some of his better form, and more importantly the Titans are starting to utilise him far more effectively. He’s another at some risk of an early spell, but his tacklebusting, offloading game is tailor made for Bundy NRL Mixer scoring. Jeremiah Nanai looks a great play here too, despite being a little more reliant on attack.

NRLW: Yasmin Clydsdale – I’ve gone heavy on the Knights NRLW players due to their star-studded roster and impressive opening round win over Brisbane, backed up with another victory over the Titans. Clydsdale played the full 70 minutes in the opening round, recording an impressive 34 tackles and 10 runs. She backed it up with 31 tackles against the Titans.

HALVES

NRL: Nicho Hynes – Don’t think twice, lock and load!

NRLW: Jesse Southwell – The youngest debutant in NRLW history, it took Southwell five minutes to cross for her opening try for this stellar Knights side in 2022. The 17-year-old looks a star and appears very hard to bypass for the remainder of the competition if she can back up her position topping 63 points in the opening game week, despite regressing a touch against the Titans.

CENTRE

NRL: Jesse Ramien – Ramien is another suited to Mixer scoring with his tacklebusting and offloading ability. The Sharks get a soft match-up with the Knights and he will benefit again playing outside Nicho Hynes.

NRLW: Isabelle Kelly – I regrettably started without Kelly in Round 1. She’s one of the competition’s most dynamic ball runners, and began the season with a pair of tries and 10 tacklebreaks. While not as effective in Round 2, she was still impressive. Last year she topped the competition for tacklebreaks, post contact metres, linebreaks, and finished second in the top try-scorer department. Gun.

FULLBACK/WING

NRL: Scott Drinkwater – Continuing the Cowboys theme, Drinkwater will be in everything his side produce in attack. If they deliver against a depleted Penrith outfit, he could go large.

NRLW: Sammy Bremner – One of the greats of the women’s competition, Bremner returned in fine style in Round 1 with a competition topping 11 tacklebreaks, three try-assists and two linebreaks, weapon! She notched a try of her own in Round 2. I’m also a huge Emma Tonegato, both look great options this week and you won’t go too far wrong.
