Bundy NRL Mixer: Game week six tactics

We’re excited to be on board with the inaugural Bundy Mixer season, the NRL Fantasy campaign running from the final few rounds of the competition through until the NRL and NRLW grand finals.

For anyone new to the concept, you choose six players each week, three male, three female, across six positions.

For any SuperCoaches trying their hand at NRL Fantasy for the first time, essentially the point scoring system is tailored further towards workers than attackers.

For example, you accrue one point per tackle, as per SuperCoach, but only eight points per try, rather than the 17 we’re used to.

When considering attacking players, tacklebreaks and offloads score significantly, so consider this when making your selections.

Let’s take a look at Game Week 6.

HOOKER

NRL: Reuben Cotter – Cotter’s high workrate is invaluable in Mixer scoring, and he’s availability at hooker is handy. In a grand final qualifier he’ll play extensive minutes and will score well regardless of the match result.

NRLW: Quincy Dodd – There’s just a four point average separating the top four NRLW hooking options, who all average extensively less than the NRL options. Hooker is a position to target with NRL players so I’ll lean towards Cotter of the two.

MIDDLE FORWARD

NRL: James Fisher-Harris – The top averaging men’s middle for good reason. Like Cotter, he’s a huge worker, and will play extended minutes off the week’s freshen up. As safe as they come when it comes to locking in a solid score at worst. If wanting a high upside option consider Isaiah Papali’i who is available as a middle, but plays as an edge therefore having more attacking opportunity.

NRLW: Millie Boyle – Most will opt for top scorer for NRLW middles in Simaima Taufa, and it’s hard to argue, but Boyle continues to improve and is another who will relish the big stage of knockout finals footy. She’s a brilliant middle with attacking upside, so I’m happy to lock her in.

EDGE FORWARD

NRL: Viliame Kikau – Kiks will be as integral as ever to Penrith’s game plan as they look to isolate the smaller Lachlan Ilias at South Sydney. Kikau could have a field day if the men around young Ilias can’t help out their smaller half.

NRLW: Kezie Apps – The edge forward position is hard to differentiate with minimal separating the elite players. I’ll be opting for the veteran in Apps who has a plethora of experience and will relish the big game stage.

HALVES

NRL: Nathan Cleary – I wouldn’t think twice about this one.

NRLW: Raecene McGregor – While I’m going heavy on Roosters players this week, McGregor does look hard to ignore in the halves having averaged 12 points more than the next best in the position, teammate Zehara Temara. However, I will be starting Nathan Cleary this week.

CENTRE

NRL: Izack Tago – I wanted Val Holmes here, but he’s only available at fullback/wing, which is ridiculous. Further, Marata Niukore who will play centre for Parramatta isn’t available in the position for obvious reasons, otherwise he’d have been a nice pick. As such, I’m sticking to my theme of Penrith’s left edge as I think it’ll be the dominant edge of the round, so Tago it is.

NRLW: Isabelle Kelly – Lock and load, simply a star!

FULLBACK/WING

NRL: Brian To’o – Several great options here, but To’o is the man for me having moved to the stronger left edge at Penrith with Taylan May out. His workrate is immense for a winger, and I can see him scoring multiple tries in this fixture. Maika Sivo is another great option on Parramatta’s equally lethal left edge, although he won’t have the workrate of To’o.

NRLW: Sammy Bremner – The Roosters face the Eels in the grand final qualifier, who snuck into the four having won just one fixture. As such, the Roosters loom as the obvious team to target, so the in-form Bremner and Kelly will both slot straight into my side.
