2019/20 SuperCoach champion Thommo Aitken outlines the key dates that will impact player availability across BBL12.
BBLTo help navigate the ins and outs across the SuperCoach Big Bash season, 2019/20 champion Thommo Aitken has run his eye over player availability across the tournament.
From Test matches, to domestic T20 tournaments, key players will only be available at certain stages of the tournament, while a number of others are dealing with injury concerns that will also impact squads.
Leading into the tournament we’ll continually update this article as squads are announced and injury updates flow in.

If selected in the squad for the matches against South Africa, Australian players will return to BBL action after January 8.

Zac Crawley | Hurricanes | Misses the start of the BBL due to the Test series and at the moment is only a replacement player when Shadab Khan is playing for Pakistan during their home limited overs series. |
Faheem Ashraf | Hurricanes | Included in Pakistan squad for the series. Likely to become available from approx round 4-6. |
Squads: TBA – Although as the Hurricanes have sourced a replacement for Shadab Khan during the tournament it should be safe to say he will be involved!
Will nothing is certain, it’s likely Shadab will leave around early January.

Chris Lynn | Strikers | After changing clubs ‘Lynnsanity’ is expected to be available for 11 out of a possible 14 matches in the regular season. |
Chris Jordan | Sixers | Returning to the Sixers, Jordan should be available for Sixers Round 5 double, before leaving Round 8/9. |
Mujeeb Ur Rahman | Renegades | Likely unavailable from Round 8/9 onwards. |
Alex Hales | Thunder | Likely unavailable from Round 8/9 onwards. |
Colin Munro | Heat | Likely unavailable from Round 8/9 onwards. |
Andre Russell | Renegades | The all-rounder from the West Indies is available for the first four matches of the BBL season. His last match is expected to be Christmas Eve against the Hurricanes. Martin Guptill will replace him for the remainder of BBL12. |
James Vince | Sixers | Similarly to Jordan, Vince is expected to be available for ten matches this season. |
Sam Billings | Heat | Likely unavailable from Round 8/9 onwards. |
Akeal Hosein | Renegades | Likely unavailable from Round 8/9 onwards. |
Trent Boult | Stars | Not selected for NZ’s ODI squad to face India, will depart for ILT20 from Round 8/9. |
Fazalhaq Farooqi | Thunder | Available for the Thunder’s first nine games after being signed by the Thunder as an international replacement for David Willey. |

Faf du Plessis | Scorchers | In massive BBL news, the Scorchers have signed du Plessis. He will play in their first seven games in his stint. |
Rashid Khan | Strikers | Fans of the BBL will be disappointed to know that Rashid is expected to play 6 or 7 matches for the Strikers before leaving to play in another T20 tournament. |
Rilee Rossouw | Thunder | Expected to be unavailable from approximately Round 7/8. |
Squads: TBA, shouldn’t impact Supercoach significantly if at all.

Martin Guptil | Renegades | A fairly recent acquisition for the Renegades, Guptil will replace Andre Russell after his cameo stint. He will be available from December 28 until the finals, if the Renegades can turn around their form this year. |
Fazalhaq Farooqi | Thunder | Picked up by the Thunder as a replacement for David Willey. The 22 year old death bowler from Afghanistan will be available for the Thunder’s first 9 matches. |
