Spy Talk: Trade plans and tactics, Round 3

Sorry I have been a little quiet on the article front to start the season. It’s been a big ol’ couple of weeks for the Spy!

The good news is I am now on holidays and I’m currently on my way north to QLD and trying to figure out who to sell and who to keep a hold of ahead of the first ball of round 3.

The other good news, I’m into 229^th after a hot start and I think I have made an absolute bucketload of early cash. I’m coming at you T Williams!!

This early cash could prove useful later in the tournament and I’ll continue to be aggressive early with cash generation + points upside.

Essentially guys who I think are capable of big scores rather than a solid plodder who will be consistent but perhaps middle of the road.

For example, I am holding onto Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw rather then maybe boosting again for an extra Brisbane Heat player like Mitch Swepson, who whilst solid doesn’t have that mega score in him in my eyes (watch him take 6/8 tonight now!).

There is nothing wrong with him at all, I just prefer to spend my cash on upside guys and therefore I am targeting Steketee for the round before moving him on after the double. He has bags of wickets in him…

Combine this policy with guys who are set to make great cash but also have point upside and we land on Matt Kuhnemann.

Ideally he scores decently and can then sell him on after making good cash across his double game round.

Worst case he should score me a few points and not lose cash, therefore holding trade value.

If Swepson had scored really well in their first game he would fit this category instead, but given his score wasn’t huge he simply doesn’t come in with that safe cash generation and therefore could potentially lose money and in turn trade value!

This brings me to my third trade.

I really want Bazley, but to do so I need to give up Daniel Sams who is Mr Consistent really and has even more upside in him if he can ever recapture some form with the bat.

Surely it has to happen in one game at least and I don’t want to be watching when he does if I have sold him.

As such and given the news that Neser looks set to play both games, I can get him in and keep Sams.

I will have to trade out Farooqi though who has been unlucky but is a gun. He is due for wickets again, but we can’t keep them all! Sams also has dual status which is super handy.

Now last round I boosted Rashid to Thornton because I simply couldn’t be without the young quick.

He looks the real deal and I wanted to jump on the price rise + point scoring potential.

This round I am open to another boost, but to be honest given I have already generated the cash and I would be likely trading a Rossouw (negative breakeven) to someone like Swepson or Dooley, so I am happy to save my second boost.

The caveat to all of this is that there is still six hours until game time so I could get an idea out of the blue and go for it.

To be honest it’s a tricky round with lots of options, so anything could happen.

Overall when trading be sure to check out and make sure they cover one of more of the below:

Value – Cheap for what they can potentially produce.

Cash Generation – Likely to make money and be worth more when trading out following their double.

Points upside – Quite simply, they have big scores in them, because at the end of the day points win Supercoach!

Schedule – Check the upcoming rounds to be sure not to overload with guys who have a bye coming soon, unless you can stash them on the bench, or be aware you may need to boost (use an extra trade) if you get caught short.

Your trade ins don’t need to cover all of the above, but ideally one or two minimum.

My vice-captain this round is Steketee, with my skipper likely Matt Short if he doesn’t produce.

I will be back with another article before round 4 when the game really opens up with less double game rounds and more single weeks which I think is great for the game!!
