Ownership analysis: Pain and gain points, Round 2

Time for another edition of why you are ranked where you are!

A better scoring round with a high par around the 2,200 mark as popular rookies and mid-priced players outperformed their price points.

Hitting most of these and avoiding a few dud premium scores likely saw you have solid week.

The Gainers

• Another good week for the hype boys as Daicos (149), Gulden (107) and Tom Green (106) all delivered. These three are a big driver for those at the top – you’ll likely need to jump on board to keep up.
• The winning ruck setup is looking like any combination of English (139), Darcy Cameron (137) and Marshall (129). If you’re trading them in, look at Cameron as a point of difference to the top 1,000 coaches.
• Setterfield (147) misses the list below as he was only in around 5% of teams (this is now at 20% and rising) – i.e. he hasn’t hurt you too much yet by not owning him, but that is about to change if his form continues. Ziebell is in a similar boat but has fewer coaches making that bet so far (13%).

The Painful

• Ruck roulette continued in round two with Darcy (41) and Gawn (0) stopping any owners in their tracks. Imagine owning both!
• Horne-Francis rewarded the roughly 20% of coaches (35k people) that traded him in with a score of 45. A lesson not to chase points.
• Docherty impacted the largest number of owners and those in the top 1,000 with a below par score, but I wouldn’t be trading him out just yet.
• Neale and Macrae are a couple expensive midfielders that have not had the start you would want. Macrae is a particular worry, having only 41% CBAs and spending time up forward – a fair trade-out before he loses significant value.

The Top 1,000

• Interesting to see 14 players above 80% ownership, showing you how similar the top teams are.
• Docherty dropping out is the key change here from last week. Otherwise, the play looks much the same – pay up for rookies, nail your rucks and avoid the injury and midfield premium carnage.
• Davies-Uniacke has jumped out of the blocks but was in only 26% of the top 1,000 teams and 6% of teams overall. A solid starting pick and potentially one with ownership low enough to help you climb the ranks if his form continues.
• Compared to the rest of the comp, the top 1,000 tend to be more likely to own the likes of Bontempelli, English, Coniglio, Worpel and D. Cameron.
