Team lists: Supercoach round 7 squad analysis
2020 NRL Supercoach runner-up Tim Williams analyses the squads dropped for round 7 of the 2023 season.

One thing I’m loving in Supercoach at the moment is how wide open the centre-wing position has become.
There are so many high ceiling players available delivering mixed output.
Proven guns such as Brian To’o and Val Holmes reminded us of their class in Round 6, while the highly popular Reuben Garrick is set to plummet cash after an injury impacted outing against the Panthers.
Greg Marzhew is back in the top grade and scoring tries for fun, while teammate Lachlan Miller is proving extremely consistent and now has the goal-kicking duties at the Knights.
Jacob Kiraz has come to the pack a bit in recent weeks, but likely still finishes top four CTW by end of season.
The Rabbitohs right edge is humming, and Campbell Graham is proving the main beneficiary which could see him join the elite of the position in 2023.
Let’s throw in Joey Manu who is set to plummet in price in coming weeks.

There are stacks of option, and it makes the great game of Supercoach all the more enjoyable by diversifying squads, even if it means agonisingly watching certain guns without owning.
We’ll be ranking our top picks from the position on the SC Playbook podcast this week.
The Cooma Stallions had a strong week and we’re shaping up well, notching 1,257 points to sit in 14k overall.
The Garrick injury didn’t help, not did Joe Tapine’s withdrawal, but we still managed a big Easter weekend to see some green.
Speaking of green, up the Mighty Raiders!
Due to the public holiday on Monday, I’ll be recording the Bloke in a Bar podcast on Tuesday, then the SC Playbook podcast shortly after.
The Easter Monday game has thrown the Supercoach window opening out of whack, so my analysis below will be far more brief and less data heavy as a result due to time constraints.
Anything briefer below will certainly be elaborated on in the podcast though.

Analysis: The Dolphins just keep on keepin’ on.
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow continued his great season with 120 points, initiating another two rounds of price rises.
I wouldn’t be buying now, but anyone who held would be cheering.
Ditto Jamayne Isaako who has been superb the season, scoring 118.
I’d be very surprised if he was a keeper, but owners will be able to flip him so someone like Garrick or Kiraz for a potential profit in coming weeks, incredible.
Tom Gilbert is popular as dual 2RF-FRF at $573k, but I’m not convinced. He’s been terrific this season no doubt of that, but he’s had a lot of attacking stats for a middle.
In three of his six games this season he’s scored sub 50, in his tonne on the weekend he had a try and a try-assist.
Maybe he keeps up the attacking stats, but I’m willing to bet he doesn’t.

Analysis: The Rabbitohs burst into gear on Easter Friday against the Bulldogs, with a number of key Supercoach players going big.
It is worth noting the Dogs were heavily understrength, and after the Dolphins, the Rabbitohs face the Panthers, Broncos and Storm, so the draw remains tough.
Latrell Mitchell hit his first tonne of the season, scoring 146 to come into serious buy contention and halt any potential price drops.
Being fairly well fixture proof, he’s a genuine option this week. with a breakeven of 13.
Campbell Graham had his 4th 80+ score of the season, knocking out 145 points.
While he remains a great buy with outstanding base to go with South Sydney’s firing right edge, he will come into serious Origin consideration for NSW, especially with Josh Addo-Carr out for an extended period.
Cody Walker belted out 132 and is producing the form of old with three big weeks on the trot.
He’s also highly unlikely for Origin and is set to make more cash. That being said, he’s now up to $665k so lots of his value may well be gone.
Izaac Thompson has been named which is encouraging despite remaining under an injury cloud.
Tevita Tatola is out again through injury, while Jai Arrow returns.

Analysis: Despite facing a tougher match up this week, Nicho Hynes is a must, so find a way to get him in.
He has a breakeven of 0 and is about to make a heap of cash, so I wouldn’t be looking to wait another week on him.
With Toby Rudolf out long-term, and Dale Finucane suspended for a few weeks, it’ll be interesting to see who gets additional minutes in the pack. Royce Hunt and Cam McInnes have been named to start.
McInnes could be one big beneficiary playing just 40 per game this season, averaging 43 points. The four forward bench is a concern for that though.
I think the Sharks depth in the pack is deep enough for the rotation not to be impacted too much, but it’ll still be a close watch to see if anyone benefits significantly.
It’s a tough game this week, then the draw gets a little better against the Bulldogs, Cowboys, Dolphins, Sea Eagles and Knights.
As such, a flyer on a PODs such as Katoa, Mulitalo, Ramien or Talakai could be on the cards.
As mentioned up top, there are just so many great CTW options at the moment, and trying to get the right Sharks outside back each week is a lottery.

Analysis: James Tedesco returns with a breakeven of 129, and a concussion impacted 22 in his rolling average.
He’s likely to drop to around the mouth-watering price of $600k soon.
The Roosters after this week face the Dragons, Warriors and Cowboys.
Between a cheap Teddy, Latrell, Walsh and Turbo, fullback is a truly exciting position at the moment.
Joey Manu is set to drop a stack of cash in coming rounds with a breakeven of 144 and will be in serious POD ownership range for anyone keen to invest.
He dropped $85k last week and is owned by essentially 0% of top ranked teams.
With no Origin concern he’ll likely be a must at some stage, especially if he continues to fill in at fullback for Teddy over that period.
A convincing loss to Melbourne saw most of the Roosters side score poorly, meaning most will suffer price drops in coming weeks.
Jaxson Paulo has maxed in price with a breakeven of 73 and can be flipped to a season keeper at $659k.

Analysis: Manly have hit a wall the past few weeks, with Tommy Turbo scoring just 26 in a well beaten side against Penrith.
Don’t panic, the side were dominated, and Turbo also had back spasms that required injections at halftime.
I’m more than happy to hold strong.
In a cruel blow for owners, Reuben Garrick left the field with a HIA early on, scoring just 8 points. He’s out this week.
With a breakeven of 130 he’s now set to drop cash.
Manly have the Tigers next week where he should be ripe for picking, even if his breakeven remains high. He could hit his 130 breakeven v the Tigers to be fair.
Josh Schuster has been named on the extended bench and you’d think he be every chance to come into the starting side.
Sean Keppie has been demoted to 18th man which is a blow for anyone needing him as FRF cover for Stefano Utoikamanu this week.

Analysis: The Storm are firing once again which is great for Supercoach because it brings their wealth of stars into buy contention.
Take note of the Round 9 bye, especially Harry Grant owners who may be light on for a back-up hooker.
Nick Meaney has been superb with just one score under 60 this season, he managed 96 in a starring performance against the Roosters.
As good as he is going, Ryan Papenhuyzen’s looming return, plus the bye, probably makes him an avoid going forward. Owners can hang tight though, he’s been terrific.
He’s out this week anyway due to delayed concussion symptoms. Hold.
Cameron Munster moves to fullback, he hit his three-figure breakeven with 114 points, in four games this season he has a low of just 65.

The question is now whether we hold off until after Origin or go early and bank those points?
Dylan Brown plays all three major bye rounds and won’t be impacted by Origin so maybe he’s the better option?
Jonah Pezet comes in and has a -2 breakeven. Those who held would likely have eyed a move of him to Nicho/Cleary this week, do you take the cash or just chase the points?
As both Nicho and Cleary are both going to rise significantly too I’d still make the move.
Scoring another 70, I genuinely think Eli Katoa may be a season-long keeper.
If it wasn’t for a remarkable Joey Manu tackle, he would have had another try and 90+ score under his belt.
He just looks so lethal in attack and that blossoming combination with Jahrome Hughes is only going to get better by the game.
Will Warbrick scored just 16 points to absolutely stunt his cash growth.
While he earned $189k and with a breakeven of 48 he’s likely peaked for now, and with that looming bye he can probably be sold off this week or next having made some big cash.

Analysis: Popular cheapies Charnze Nicoll-Klokstadd and Jackson Ford both crossed for tries and linebreaks against the Knights to initiate some strong cash growth.
Both remain decent buys with low breakevens, but they’re far from must-haves.
CNK is now at $459k with a -22 breakeven.
Shaun Johnson continued his career resurgence with 85 points to reward new-owners, but with Nicho and Cleary as the two set-and-forget halfbacks both with negative breakevens, it’ll be hard not to trade him this week.
We’ve been hot on front-row forward cheapie watch of late, and perhaps Tom Ale is the man for the job?
He scored 60 points in 46 minutes, getting through plenty of work to give him a negative breakeven.
The injuries to Te Maire Martin and Wayde Egan would have inflated his minutes, while Tohu Harris is back and Mitch Barnett is due soon which will make time hard to come by.

Analysis: Despite the Cowboys struggles, Val Holmes continues to score well, jagging a late try to score 88 points against the Dolphins.
On current form of the Cowboys, along with an injury toll, you wouldn’t rush to buy, but I think owners can happily hold.
Very little happening elsewhere at the moment.

Analysis: MARZHEWWWWWWW!
It was a tough watch seeing him cross for a double as a non-owner, but I feel the game is a better place when we have the big fella destroying opposition wingers to score tries. It’s so entertaining.
Defensively he still has concerns which were highlighted again against the Warriors, but Supercoach owners won’t care as long as he’s getting picked.
When he plays, he scores well.
Boy I’d love to be a Lachie Miller owner, his work-rate and now addition of goal-kicking make him such a reliable scorer.
His last four scores have been 77, 95, 103 and 98.
Playing fullback, available at CTW, he’s been elite this season.
He simply needs the Knights to continue their strong form this season to be a genuine top four CTW contender for the year.
It’ll be very intriguing to see whether or not Kalyn Ponga takes over the goal-kicking when he likely returns in Round 8.
KP’s return will be GOLD for Marzew on the left also.
All that being said, the red-hot Panthers will be a whole new ball game for this side in Round 7.
Popular buy last week Jack Johns reverted to the bench on game day, scoring just 32 points.

Analysis: Penrith are absolutely hummmmming!
The rapid flow of NRL points is naturally equating to Supercoach points.
Brian To’o notched his first tonne of the season with 112 against Manly, he now gets the key match up on the edge against Marzew which bodes well.
I can’t wait to see this pair go toe-to-toe.
Despite the Panther’s putting 44 points on, Sunia Turuva notched just 32 points which was luckily scaled to 44 after updates.
With games over the next month against the Knights, Rabbitohs, Tigers and Warriors I’m happy to hold and play in the meantime, I think there’s more cash to be made.
Particularly with the likes of Alamoti, AKP, Warbrick being higher priority sells in coming weeks.
Nathan Cleary, 150 points, owned by around half of all Supercoaches, get him in ASAP!
There’s no room for him at fullback due to being such a stacked position, but shout out to Dylan Edwards, four tries, 163 points, yew!
There’d be some extremely happy Draft owners.
Last week’s most purchased player Zac Hosking scored 61 points, largely in base with 29 tackles and 15 runs to go with three offloads.
Liam Martin and Luke Garner have been named on the extended bench as they eye returns from injury.
Soni Luke finally got the minutes, playing 54 minutes for 59 points to sit very cheap this week with a negative breakeven. He looks a terrific buy.

Analysis: Alofiana Khan-Periera has highs, and some very low, lows.
Unfortunately, he dished the latter against the Dragons, scoring just 16 points.
With a tonne in his rolling average, he’s a hold for one more week with one more decent price rise to come with a breakeven of 5, barring another big score.
David Fifita continues to score well and was an inch from scoring which would have given him a three-figure score.
Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui was popular last week, only to score 18 points. Barring injuries, he looks to have been a trap and may hover as another frustrating bottom dollar FRF.
Tanah Boyd has picked up his game with a 3RA of about 50 and is starting to make some cash.
There’s no spot for him at halfback with Cleary and Nicho the priorities, but some owners may be able to hold a touch longer at hooker. Regardless, he’s probably a sell.
Kieran Foran returns which is good news for AKP and Fifita.

Analysis: Despite the defeat to the Raiders, Reece Walsh knocked out another strong score of 86.
Decision time looms though with Latrell Mitchell reminding us of his heights on the weekend.
Walsh is likely a hold for at least one more week with a nice match-up against the leaky Titans, then we can make a call on whether he’s a hold or not.
Not a lot to note elsewhere with Payne Haas and Selwyn Cobbo scoring well.

Analysis: Joe Tapine returns after being a late scratching against the Broncos for owners.
There’s still not a heap of Supercoach relevance here, Jarrod Croker scored 40 on return to the top grade and is kicking goals.
If he scores well this week and looks to lock down a spot, he may be a cheapie option at $280k.

Analysis: Minimal to speak of here due to the fact that while Ben Hunt continues to score well with 88 points, I don’t think there’s room for him as a POD at halfback.

Analysis: Mitch Moses tonned up against the Tigers, but realistically as halfback only he won’t be an option until the Origin period.
Dylan Brown on the other hand becomes even more relevant since the cruel and likely season-ending knee injury to Adam Doueihi.
After a hot start to the season, Brown is beginning to bottom out in price with a three-round average in the mid-50s.
Parramatta’s upcoming draw is good against the Dogs, Broncos, Knights, Titans, Sea Eagles and Dolphins.
Playing all three major bye rounds, Brown will be popular in coming weeks.
Ryan Matterson is averaging mid-70 minutes and 72 points per game and looks a terrific pick up at 2RF.
Junior Paulo’s return may impact his game time, but he showed he can be fairly elite even in restricted minutes last year where he averaged 66 in 56 minutes.
J’maine Hopgood played 52 minutes off the bench for 48 points.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think he’s probably a hold, more so for overall players than head-to-head.
He’ll still continue to score well and with any injuries in games, he’ll find himself getting greater time.
He has attacking upside, and most importantly will prove invaluable on the three major bye weeks.
There’s obviously no harm in selling, but I think I’ll hold tight.
Cheapie hopeful Haze Dunster at $235k scored just 7 points!
