Weekly wrap: Round 13 studs & duds

Charlie Dadds recaps every game from Round 13 with a focus on how the SuperCoach prospects performed.

AFL

Round 13 brought with it another frustrating week for yours truly.

Long story short, I took the emergency off Jack Ziebell on Sunday morning so that I could chuck up a socials post regarding him.

And, as you may have guessed, I forgot to put the emergency back on said JZ.

I experienced every single emotion possible during that North v GWS game.

It of course began with disbelief, then rage, then a slight glimmer of hope when he came off the ground with blood pouring from his head, only to be completely drowned out by sadness at the final siren when I checked the scores and saw him ton up for the first time in three weeks. That sadness was accompanied by a bit more rage when I lost to my brother Eddie in our head-to-head league by a mere 12 points.

This week, Elite Dadds scored 2131 which moved me down 58 spots to 3306th.

I’m set up well for this week’s bye, so all my trade attention turns toward Round 15.

To be completely honest, I’ve got no idea what I’m going to do this week but here’s what I’ve got planned at the moment:

Harry Sheezel -> Nat Fyfe

Ryan Angwin -> Ryan Maric

Trades left: 8

Building up a major war chest ahead of Round 15 where I’ll be able to get Seamus Mitchell up to Clayton Oliver in one trade!

Anyway, let’s get into the wrap.

Sydney v St Kilda

  • Chad Warner (107) has only dropped below 100 once in his last six games (98)
  • With Dane Rampe (66) coming back into the side, Jake Lloyd (74) was pushed all the way up to the wing. He made his way back to his notorious seagull role in the last quarter and his scoring reflected that, racking up 11 touches, 2 marks, a goal, and 45 SuperCoach points
  • Errol Gulden (62) had a very stinky game by his standards. For some reason he was play at half forward but luckily went back on ball in the third quarter
  • Lewis Melican (52) is on the bubble this week as a $172k defender. I would prefer to look elsewhere, but it’s not exactly like we’re spoilt for choice with cheapies at the moment

Over the next 12 months an estimated 60% of all fixed rate mortgages are going to expire. Patty and George from Mortgage Choice SCW can get you the best rate possible. It’s a super easy process, so flick them a message. Save $129 by mentioning SC Playbook for a FREE CONSULT!

  • Jack Sinclair (125) exploded with 32 touches
  • Rowan Marshall (119) was a popular VC option but definitely would’ve left coaches umm’ing and ahh’ing over whether to take his score or not
  • Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (119) has a three-round average of 111
  • Jack Steele (85) had around 60 points in the second half but it wasn’t enough to save him from another poor score

Western Bulldogs v Port Adelaide

  • Tom Liberatore (139) put up yet another huge score. If you’re aiming to bring him, make sure it’s not until after his bye
  • Marcus Bontempelli (125) showed no signs of his suspected knee injury
  • Caleb Daniel (125) backed up his incredible 169 with another 29 touches and a goal
  • Jack Macrae (120) could very likely finish the year as F1
  • To the surprise of many, Tim English (99) was woeful… Up until the second quarter
  • Zak Butters (118) got the Power over the line
  • Connor Rozee (108) hyperextended his knee but thankfully managed to play on

Hawthorn v Brisbane

  • James Sicily (136) saw a lot of the footy down back but unfortunately will have another stint on the sidelines after a sling tackle on Hugh McCluggage (79)
  • Will Day (109) looked sore early on which makes his first ton since Round 4 all the more sweeter for his coaches
  • Trades this week will likely revolve around getting rid of either Seamus Mitchell (74) or Josh Weddle (68) or both!
  • Josh Dunkley (148) had a game-high 11 tackles
  • He’s not usually a big marker of the footy but Lachie Neale (102) had a game-high in marks. Can anyone tell me why his score wasn’t bigger? He had 30 touches at 76%

Adelaide v West Coast

  • In game 250, Taylor Walker (208) went NUTS
  • Rory Laird (156) was on track for a 200+ score at half time
  • Ben Keays (115)… He was supposedly tagging Tim Kelly (81) which is why he was playing midfield, but he now has three tons in a row. I don’t mind him as a trade-in option after his bye because if the Crom choose to tag against West Coast, surely they’ll tag against every other team in the comp
  • Jordan Dawson (95) was captained by 23% of the top 100
  • That’s back-to-back tons for Elliot Yeo (113)!

Fremantle v Richmond

  • Caleb Serong (108) and Andrew Brayshaw (107) were popular trade-in options and didn’t disappoint
  • Matthew Johnson (96) had a breakout game and looked fantastic with Jaeger O’Meara out of the midfield
  • Nat Fyfe (96) could be ripe for the picking… He had the third most CBAs for Fremantle midfielders
  • Luke Ryan (83) hasn’t tonned up since Round 8
  • Shai Bolton (151) bounced back incredibly well from his 77 the week before
  • Tim Taranto (136) is a genuine safe captaincy option each week. He had 20 touches and 2 goals at half time, finishing with a game-high 35 disposals

North Melbourne v GWS

  • Don’t get sucked in to Aaron Hall’s (120) web of lies. THE perennial burn man
  • What a statement from two of Round 12’s most traded out players, Jack Ziebell (107) and Harry Sheezel (98)!
  • George Wardlaw (94) is a serious, serious player. Future SuperCoach STUD in the making
  • If Tarryn Thomas (112) didn’t have the bye next week (and wasn’t a dic*head), then he’d be a serious option this week
  • Eddie Ford (84) bounced back from last week well

Do you ever feel uneasy with how much you’re gambling with? You’re not alone, footy fans love a punt, but sometimes it can get a bit out of control. • Kieren Briggs (114) had a stinky first quarter but put on the superman cape for the next three
  • It feels like an eternity since Stephen Coniglio (103) tonned up
  • Harry Himmelberg (88) was firmly back in defence which makes things verryyy interesting. It was around this time last year that he made the transition
  • Tom Green (77) has a three-round average of just 87
  • After two sub-effected games prior to this week, Josh Fahey (54) went up just $2.8k in price. With the Round 15 bye, we might have to endure one more price rise before bringing him in

Carlton v Essendon

  • Adam Cerra (132) is one of the only Blues who can actually hold his head high. He’s averaging 109 for the season and has five 129+ scores
  • After a terrific stretch of games upon return from injury, Sam Docherty (77) has come crashing back to earth
  • The bye couldn’t come soon enough for Patrick Cripps (58) who is a whopping $156k down from his starting price
  • Alex Cincotta (52) can be traded either this week or next

  • Ever since he was labelled by Champion Data as the best wingman since 2016, Nic Martin (139) has averaged 129
  • That concussion for sure flicked a switch in Jordan Ridley (108). He’s averaging 116 since then
  • Zach Merrett (105) was tagged up until half time
  • Mason Redman (101) managed to ton up again

Melbourne v Collingwood

  • No Clayton Oliver? No worries! Jack Viney (156) stepped up when it mattered most
  • Christian Petracca’s (95) run of ten straight tonnes came to end
  • Jacob Van Rooyen (65) and Kade Chandler (57) can now be traded if you haven’t already
  • Tom Mitchell (127) excites me a lot. He’s only dropped under 100 three times this year and looks as consistent as they come. Definitely a potential post bye upgrade target
  • Nick Daicos (118) went into the midfield after half time
