Updated! Team lists: Supercoach round 19 squad analysis

Round 19 is here folks, and it sure is a doozy. Tim Williams was so scared to face this round that he’s literally flown halfway across the world to try escape its wrath, but unfortunately for Tim this is a game where you can neither run nor hide.

Precisely what we didn’t want to happen has happened. Strike away Clint Gutherson, Cody Walker, Keaon Koloamatangi, Corey Horsburgh, AJ Brimson and potentially J’maine Hopgood (18^th man) from your bye planning numbers… Ouch.

All the planning in the world couldn’t have saved you from this sort of Freddy Fitler induced carnage, but hopefully the extra trade, or maybe even a trade boost if you were savvy enough to hold onto one, can help most Supercoaches out there scrape together something resembling 13 decent players this week.

Turbo Irvo managed 1467 this week, which I thought was going to be some solid green arrows until Kalyn Ponga scored 180 on Sunday afternoon.

I was the only SC Playbook contributor to start the season with KP as I felt a bounce back season was due, but after copping a HIA early in Round 2 and serving up 1pt for me I had to give him the boot and not look back.

Anyways enough whinging, you’re either a genius and own Ponga and Drinkwater, or you’re not playing Supercoach very well and must take some personal responsibility for your poor decision making, and I’m unfortunately in the latter camp.

Sitting 1680^th overall, the top 500 still feels like an attainable goal, however my trades are starting to run low (single figures) and my team value is starting to stagnate.

TIGERS v SHARKS

Analysis: Yikes, what more can you say? I saw a meme straight after the game showing the Tigers vs Cowboys Leichardt result from 6 weeks ago and an UNO Reverse card, and I think that sums it up perfectly.

I don’t want to sit here and call the Tigers hopeless, but someone has to do it right? I own both John Bateman and Isaiah Papali’i in my 2RF but after a performance like that I’m seriously second guessing my convictions that both are keepers.

Bateman got hooked after 55 minutes and didn’t return, so that’s something to watch moving forward, but I suspect it was just an anomaly based on the scoreline.

Analysis: The Sharks will be licking their chops after seeing what the Tigers served up in defence last week.

There’s one man I have my eye on for Supercoach record watch this week. A measly 156 last week for Nicho Hynes could look miniscule to what he puts on this week if the Sharks get rolling.

Will Kennedy remains a solid option at fullback and has now slipped back under 600k, which is absolute bargain price for a player averaging 70.

Ronaldo Mulitalo and Siosifa Talakai continue to put their best foot forward as potential CTW keepers, with both having the potential to go 120+ this week, you’d be sweating as a non-owner that’s for sure.

Briton Nikora continues to churn out insanely good scores and will continue to threaten the try line for the foreseeable future.

DRAGONS v RAIDERS

Friday, 8pm, WIN Stadium, Wollongong

Analysis: Not much to say about the Dragons, essentially zero Supercoach relevant players heading into the endgame.

Analysis: Corey Horsburgh is a big loss for owners due to the safe 70pts he all but guarantees on a week in week out basis, but fair credit to the man, he 100% deserves the call up to represent his state.

Hudson Young misses game 3 selection for the Blues and is a big in for the Raiders and owners who held on.

Joe Tapine owners can expect to see an increase in minutes this week, and if there was ever a time big Taps goes over for a meat pie – you’d think this week is as good a chance as any.

Analysis: Goodbye King Gutho, hello darkness my old friend. This will be the sentiment of many Supercoaches who purchased Gutherson over the last couple of weeks in anticipation of a big Round 19 bolster to your Supercoach score, myself included.

He’s probably a hold for most people but I can definitely see the merit in cashing in that close to 900k and diversifying the funds across other positions for this bye round.

J’Maine Hopgood has been named in a boost for owners.

Analysis: After a torrid wet game against the Bunnies last week you can probably expect to see a big bounceback game from all the Warriors stars who underperformed last week.

DWZ and CNK are both in career best form and are serious trade in options this week for non-owners as both have enormous ceilings that can kill you in a bye round like this.

SJ and AFB are the other two players of interest who both had their worst games of the season last week by a long shot, they’ll be out for blood you best believe it. Beware though, SJ may be a late out pending the birth of his second child.

Tohu Harris and Jackson Ford continue to plug along nicely for owners and should secure 50-60pts this week which might prove to be extremely valuable.

RABBITOHS v BULLDOGS

Saturday, 7:35pm, Accor Stadium, Sydney

Analysis: Big news for the bunnies with Cody Walker and Keaon Koloamatangi both getting the game 3 call up for NSW.

Walker owners especially will be scratching their heads wondering whether Freddy has a personal vendetta against them. Koloamatangis selection on the other hand was a little more predictable.

With no Damien Cook and Cameron Murray to boot, this game will be way more up in the air than initially expected.

Richard Kennar has been replaced by Tyrone Munro in a blow for owners.

Analysis: Steer clear of the Bulldogs for the time being. Jacob Preston continues to score reasonably well; however I believe he is a sell after this round to any of the higher upside second rowers in one of the stronger teams.

TITANS v DOLPHINS

Sunday, 4:05pm, Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast

Analysis: Titans are missing their big 4 this week in Brimson, Tino, Fifita and Fotuaika. And unfortunately, these players are basically all the supercoach relevance out of the gold coast in one small bundle package.

David Fifita is a must have from Round 20 onwards provided that he backs up from origin (to START, not off the bench).
