Bandit’s skippers: Round 20 captains to target and avoid
The SC Bandit runs the rule over the best AFL SuperCoach captaincy and vice-captaincy options to consider.

It didn’t look like Round 19 would be a particularly high-scoring week, that was until Sunday where there were a number of players who scored well above their season averages to push some teams north of 2,700 for the week.
There was no shortage of huge scores from popular premos, with James Sicily (171), Tom Stewart (152), Tim English (134) and Marcus Bontempelli among those who led the way from a popular captaincy perspective. Special mention to the highest scoring team of the week who had Charlie Curnow (178) as VC against West Coast!
As we’re starting to see, being able to pick a player who is likely to have a ‘spike’ game (like Curnow did last week) can really set you apart from the competition.

Wouldn’t be a captain article without including Nick. Got tagged against Port and still nearly tonned up. Carlton will likely give him the same treatment, so be wary of that.

Could be a really nice VC play this week. With no Walsh for a couple of weeks, Cerra and Cripps both coming off injury, do we see him playing more through the mids this week?

Stewart is now a midfielder apparently – he went into a number of centre bounces last week against Brisbane and put up a huge score. Has a super record against Fremantle and is definitely one you should consider as a VC this week.

Flying at the moment with a five-game average of 139.4. Can he maintain it against Briggs who has been in decent form? Scored well against the Giants earlier in the season and they do tend to leak points to opposition rucks.

Bevo revealed after last week’s game that Bont has been battling a calf niggle or some sort. It didn’t seem to slow him down much last week as he put up another really solid score. As long as he’s playing, he’s a safe VC option – especially against the Giants.

Returned after a couple of weeks off and picked up where he left off with a really solid game against Geelong. I expect him to be back to 100% this week and put in a big game against the Suns, who he has scored very well against previously.

A couple of quieter weeks in a row for Neale who tonned up against Geelong but didn’t have to do a lot in a game where the Lions dominated for large periods. Record against the Suns is sound.

Posted a big score against the Swans in their most recent fixture, do the Swans opt to tag is my only concern. Most coaches will probably bypass him this week which could mean he’s a nice POD.

Poor game against Fremantle last week, but every time he’s had a quiet game he’s bounced back the following week. Hopefully his role is SC friendly.

Order has been restored by Sicily who posted his second 170+ score for the season against Richmond. The Saints may need to put more time into than they did the last time these two sides met to avoid a repeat of that performance.

The man of Steele is back in a big way, with a three-round average of 135 it looks like the injury issues of earlier in the year are behind him. The only concern would be if the Hawks send Nash to him in a negating role.

Hi record against Richmond is outstanding, averaging 123.7 for his career against the Tigers. Simply demands the C from owners this week if Grundy doesn’t play.

This might be a lot to ask of a kid in his first season at the top level, but we saw last week just how good a scorer he can be without Hall or Ziebell in the side. He took the majority of the kick ins and was pretty much allowed to run around collecting disposals at will. I couldn’t do it personally, but if your season is cooked already, why not?
