BBLNew colours, new role?
Heya Playbook Crew,
The BBL is now only around one month away.
There have been some changes from last year and some players have moved franchises.
Let’s have a look at who is plying their trade elsewhere and if it changes their SC prospects.

Scorchers > Thunder
Bancroft has been sneaky good for the last couple of seasons.
Moving away from a strong club like the Scorchers and his higher price of $158,000 makes me think there probably is better value elsewhere. He averaged 51 last year! This does include a few not outs, but still!
Don’t start with him regardless due to PM’s XI selection.
Supercoach relevance = Low
Brendan Doggett
Thunder > Strikers
Unlikely to be best XI.

Thunder > Sixers
Unlikely to be best XI.

Sam Whiteman
Thunder > Scorchers
Keen to see his pre-tournament role and form here. An opening bat in a great team? I have heard of far worse combinations before! Especially at $62,500!
Supercoach relevance = Low/medium

Sixers > Hurricanes
Priced very attractively for an international death bowler. I’m not sure if it is my Sydney Sixers bias, but I am not sure we have ever seen his best on the BBL stage. 4 wickets in four games last year and 3 wickets in five games if we go back a further edition. $106,900 appears to be underpriced if he can consistently take wickets which he is more than capable of.
Supercoach relevance = Medium/high
Nathan Lyon
Sixers > Renegades
Likely on Australian Test duties for majority of the tournament.
Supercoach relevance = Low
Do you ever feel uneasy with how much you’re gambling with? You’re not alone, sport fans love a punt, but sometimes it can get a bit out of control. There’s help available with Gareth Wyatt and the team at CECAL. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, so make the call and get in contact here: https://bit.ly/3L2yG1W
Zak Crawley
Hurricanes > Scorchers
England do have some international commitments in December meaning Crawley will miss the start of the tournament. However, once available, an international opening bat at $120,000 is an intriguing prospect.
He had a modest average of 26 last season for the Hurricanes, will he enjoy the bouncy Optus deck more this season?
Supercoach relevance = Low/medium
Peter Hatzoglou
Scorchers > Hurricanes
I enjoy watching him but don’t think he has any major SC relevance for our teams.
Supercoach relevance = Low
Adam Zampa
Stars > Renegades
Zampa looks like a tremendous SC option this year. $131,900 and the Renegades play in two double game rounds in the first three rounds. 10 wickets in 10 games last year, and he took 3 wickets in his final game.
ODI World Cup team of the tournament isn’t a bad form line either!
Supercoach relevance = High

Stars > Renegades
He can go big on his day, as evidenced by his 100 for the Stars last tournament.
The schedule as mentioned previously is juicy for the Renegades, so he comes under consideration, especially as many will flock to the more well-known and more expensive Quinton de Kock
Supercoach relevance = Medium/high
Sam Harper
Renegades > Stars
Unless Harper is batting at the top of the order I have zero interest. I would then only change my rating to low/medium. Unlikely to have SC relevance.
Supercoach relevance = Low
Joel Paris
Hurricanes > Stars
A real SC enigma. Every year he seems to be mentioned as one to watch. He seems to be unlucky with injuries at bad times. 6 wickets in nine games last year is not great reading though…
Supercoach relevance = Low/medium
Scott Boland
Hurricanes > Stars
Likely on Australian Test duties.

Heat > Stars
He was not a regular feature in the Heat line up as they made a push to the finals. He has been a solid SC scorer in previous years and looks to be best XI in his new colours.
He can bowl death overs and is very reasonably priced. $118,500! Two double game rounds in the first 3 weeks!
PM’s XI selection is a blow for Supercoaches to start the season.
Supercoach relevance = High
Peter Siddle
Strikers > Renegades
Just 6 wickets in 11 games last year for Siddle. Is father time eventually catching up to Sids?
If he is playing regularly, recaptures previous form and bowls his yorkers/low full tossers at the end of an innings, $75,500 could be worth a look at!
Rotation in the Renegades bowling attack will be the issue.
Supercoach relevance = Medium
Sam Hain
Heat > Hurricanes
Not someone I’m looking at.
Supercoach relevance = Low
Sam Heazlett
Heat > Hurricanes
Only played two games last year (and they were finals) but he looks to be a depth player at this stage.
Supercoach relevance = Low
D’Arcy Short
Hurricanes > Strikers
He used to be the first picked for just about every SC team for a number of years. He averaged a very mediocre 22 SC points last year.
Will a change of teams provide the spark that he needs? Will he be moved back to the top of the order?
Personally I can’t see him bowling much at the Strikers, but he is very cheap at almost bottom-dollar!
Supercoach relevance = Low/medium

Heat > Strikers
An all-rounder that I just couldn’t catch at the right time last year.
He would score runs and take wickets when not in my side and then underperform when in my side.
I think he was even my captain potentially over a double game round! He took 4 and 3 wickets in games last year, but only passed 20 runs when batting on two occasions.
Will be interesting to see his new role at the Strikers, however, he is fairly pricy at $165,900!
Supercoach relevance = Medium/high
Liam Hatcher
Stars > Thunder
He can pop up on his day. He did take 11 wickets over a five game stretch last year. According to my mate Maxy, he is not best XI in his new colours, so SC relevance is low.
Supercoach relevance = Low
