Sixers vs Heat

Result: Heat won by 3 runs (DLS method)

Takes:

  • Another Heat and Sixers game with rain around.
  • Another unchanged team for the Heat. They are a very settled line up this tournament. Two changes for the Sixers. Curran and O’Keefe back in for Davies and Bird.
  • The role was good still for Tall Paul and people who held over the rainy period or traded in early in preparation for their double were rewarded. He had 2/25 off his 3 overs. He was batting during the shortened power surge and made 23 not out off 15 balls. The four he hit on what ended up being the final ball of the match to pass that magical 20 run mark would have earnt an extra cheer from SC owners.
  • Still only 2 overs for Neser. Will he ever bowl his full set of overs this campaign?
  • Kuhnemann was the pick of the bowlers for the Heat with 2/19, although as they have generally done this year they bowled (and fielded!) well as a unit.
  • Philippe top scored for the Sixers with 41.
  • Tall Paul has a decent role. The return of Tom Curran still didn’t phase Jack Edwards. Not one I’ve owned this year, but people who have will be very happy with that selection. He passed 20 runs with the bat and even opened the bowling. 3 overs and 1/16.
  • Brown top scored with 43 for the Heat after a slowish start.
  • As a Sixers fan, it was tough to watching the fielding from the Sydney men. There were so many dropped chances that were very simple. Speaking of fielding, thank goodness there wasn’t a nasty collision in the field between Walter and McSweeney. Some flashbacks to Sri Lanka for sure there for some cricket tragics!

Scorchers vs Strikers

Result: Scorchers won by 42 runs

Takes:

  • 628 vs 394. These were the SC points for both sides in the match. Sides that stacked up with Scorchers were rewarded!
  • Looper Whiteman made his first appearance opening the batting. It wasn’t the prettiest knock but he got the job done for both owners and the Scorchers making 31 off 21.
  • Three changes for the Strikers as they looked to change around their terrible form away from home. Ins were Payne, Kelly and Thornton. Outs were Agar, Manenti and Doggett.
  • The stars of the show for the Scorchers were the two lowest owned playing Scorchers coming into the round, both at 4% ownership. Evans and Morris with the games of their careers earning massive SC scores. 5/24 for ‘The Wild Thing’ Lance Morris to earn 137 SC points and 120 SC points for Evans as he blasted 85 not out off 28 balls.

  • Matty Short delivered with the bat again, even facing the strong Perth bowling line up. 74 off 44 balls to give Adelaide a glimmer of hope with some assistance from Lynn and Kelly. He didn’t bowl this game, that could change considering how the Adelaide bowling line up went.
  • Starts for every Perth batter but only Evans went nuts. Cooper moved down to number 6 in a role similar to last year and made 14 off 8. He only bowled one over.
  • No overs for Hardie.
  • Overton and Thornton both took two wickets. Overton slid to 6 with Kelly in and didn’t fire with the bat as the Strikers looked for a miracle towards the end of their innings.
  • One over for D’Arcy Short. He bowled as many overs as falcons he copped in the field.
  • Most Scorchers bowlers joined in the party that was led by Lance Morris. Richo and Tye taking advantage bowling the last two overs of the innings and getting some wickets. Agar was the only regular bowler who missed out and finished with 0/44. No batting points for Agar unfortunately for owners in this one too. Perth bowlers doing well too meant three catches for Inglis and some nice fielding points.

Renegades vs Hurricanes

Result: Hurricanes won by 6 wickets

Takes:

  • One change for the Hurricanes. Wade was out injured, so international player Sam Hain came into the side at number 4. This meant that McDermott took the gloves and the opening spot.
  • Two changes for the disappointing Renegades. First games of the year for Kellepotha and O’Neil. They replaced Harvey and Richo.
  • In contrast to last game, seven bowlers were used by the Hurricanes in this fixture. The usual suspects bowled the 4 overs (Meredith, Ellis, Jordan and Dooley), whilst the fifth bowler duties were shared by David (1 over and a wicket maiden, stiff not to get a second over in there), Anderson (1 over) and Chaudhary (2 overs and 1/16).
  • Jordan Cox was the pick of the batters. Coming in at number 4, he scored 47 off 36 balls. Jono Wells did Jono Wells things as he made 38 off 25.
  • Quinton de Kock and Jake Fraser-McGurk had slow strike rates, even though they both reached the 20 run mark. We never saw the big innings that we were expecting from QDK.
  • Sutherland moved up to 6 in the batting line up, but still only faced 8 balls. He was back bowling this game, 3 overs for 24 runs, but no wickets.
  • Debutant Fergus O’Neill the pick of the bowlers. He bowled his 4 overs out straight up and finished with 2/25.
  • Two players who have hardly been able to hit it off the square finally found some form for the Hurricanes. Sam Hain with 51 off 36, but unfortunately he looked to pick up some sort of injury during his innings. Anderson made 41 off 35.
  • McDermott couldn’t replicate his previous heroics at Marvel Stadium. 25 off 23 and ball lodged in the roof.

Strikers vs Scorchers

Result: Strikers won by 9 wickets

Takes:

  • Wowee! Who saw that result coming?
  • An unchanged Perth line up. Some of us thought restings were in order but that wasn’t the case… yet!
  • One change for Adelaide. Pope in for Bazley.
  • Perth batters made starts with Inglis, Hardie, Evans and Connolly all making starts but none of them could turn it into a big innings. They lost steady wickets throughout to finish at an under par 7/153.
  • Short was back bowling. 3 overs and 1/11 and then he delivered again with the bat making 76 off 51. He took full advantage when Richo dropped a very simple catch when he was on 0!

  • Lynny again struck them well with the bat. 50 off 33. Even D’Arcy did his job with 24 off 13 when he hit Agar into the stands three times in his first over.
  • Morris captured the only wicket for Perth in an under par bowling performance. No Hardie bowling and Connolly only bowled the last ball of the game when it was all over.
  • Only 3 overs (0/25) and no batting required from Overton.
  • Pope was solid in his first game taking 2/36 and taking the big wickets of Hardie and Inglis. Does he keep his spot and Bazley stays on the sidelines?
  • Payne fought back from a disappointing game last outing. 2/22 off his 3 overs.
  • Thornton was solid with 1/20 off 3 overs. Bizarre he wasn’t getting a game for the first half of the tournament.
