The Final Word: Round 10 Supercoach Trades, Captains & POD Plays

Supercoach Strategy 

Just over a third of the season is done.

Your Supercoach side should be starting to take shape with some marquee players you want to hold for the majority of the season.

For mine I have Zac Lomax, Dylan Brown, Nicho Hynes, Nathan Cleary, Angus Crichton, David Fifita, Shawn Blore and Harry Grant.

It’s possible that 6 out of these 8 players do play State of Origin making them potential trade outs and trade back ins, however with my front-ended trading strategy this is not really an option for me for more than maybe 1-2 of them.

Therefore I’m focussing on building up my strengths in other areas like CTW’s and continuing to build my squad depth so I have bye coverage.

Albeit coming from a very low place after a shocking start my side is trending in the right direction in overall rankings.

4 weeks ago I was 81,774^th and after last round, I am sitting in 55,430^th… nothing to write home about but improvement all the same.

In 9 rounds, I’ve managed to get myself about 1,750 points behind the 1^st place on Supercoach.

It’s a long way back but I’m actually happy with the way my side is coming together.

NRL Supercoach Trade Plans 

Supercoach Trade 1:  Simi Sasagi OUT – Joey Manu IN

I’ve seen enough from the Roosters and looking at their upcoming draw I feel confident they can keep racking up some scores against opposition teams.

Joey Manu is a player I have rarely owned in Supercoach but he is staying in my side for the rest of the season barring injury.

Even though they have more enticing break evens I am forgoing Jamayne Isaako and Reuben Garrick. 

Supercoach Trade 2: Taylan May OUT – Dom Young IN

Taylan May got a week’s grace from my side last week because I had more pressing trades and he delivered a decent score thanks to Dylan Edwards quick thinking that set up his try.

Nothing I saw in the game suggested to me that he is going to reverse the trend he’s had so far this year of 35-50 point Supercoach scores.

I need more than that and I was very keen on Young before the send off.

Supercoach PODs & SuperPODS

Here’s the players I’ve identified as PODs (Point of Difference players – less than 10% owned) and SuperPODS (less than 2% owned) that should be on your radar: 

PODs 

James Tedesco

If you had some inside knowledge that Teddy wasn’t going to get picked for NSW, he would be a trade-in for a lot of Supercoaches.

If you take away his games against high flyers Storm and Panthers, and the Bulldogs game where he got knocked out by Kikau, he is actually averaging over 100 in the other 5 games.

This is relevant because the Roosters draw is opening up and they have one of the softer runs home in the NRL. 

David Fifita

7.3% owned so he’s doubled in a week.

Still ridiculously under-owned.

Best 2RF in Supercoach by a stretch. 

Shawn Blore

4.2% owned.

Even though, if you bought him at his starting price he’s already made $140k, I still feel like Blore is under-priced and under-owned.

If he stays fit I like him to average around the high 60s or 70+ this year.

SuperPODs 

Latrell Mitchell

Until the crazy game where Latrell elbowed SJ and speared Tohu, I thought he was by far and away Souths’ best player alongside Jack Wighton.

His Supercoach scoring was pretty decent too.

I’m not ruling out finishing the season with Latrell and Teddy. 

Cody Walker

Walker has been getting better every week in terms of attacking.

Could get Alex Johnston back this week, as well as Latrell, which are a couple of key weapons.

I can’t really see his price getting lower making a value buy. 

Supercoach Captain

It’s hard to go past Nicho Hynes with the way he’s playing at the moment, but in my position, in order to make up ground I do need to look at less popular options on the right weeks.

For that reason, I’m considering Zac Lomax, Angus Crichton, David Fifita and even Joey Manu as left-field captain options.
