Welcome to our review article at SC Playbook where we review the action from the previous round and see what impact it had on our side and what we can learn from it.

Runs and Supercoach guns were the theme of the round.

Hurricanes vs Thunder

Result: Hurricanes won by 6 wickets

Takes:

  • • Mass changes for both sides as many internationals have departed. For the home side Wakim and Hatz were in for Hope and Waqar. For the away team, Konstas, Garton and Hasnain were the ins for Rutherford, Weibgen and Ferguson.

  • • Warner = gun. To be fair it was not his greatest knock but he did end up of 88 not out. He just needed some help from someone!

  • • A team bowling effort from the men in purple like it has been a few times this tournament. Meredith the only multiple wicket taker.

  • • 1 over for Chaudhary and he probably only got that over because due to Ellis being off the field getting checked for a nasty fall. He did pick up a wicket but something to monitor before their double next round. How many overs is he likely to get?

  • • David = gun. It is the first time in the BBL I can remember him stringing to innings together. Can he do it again for their double? Role is still very poor but form is as high as it gets. All you need is him in during a power surge!

  • • CJ just missed activating a strike rate bonus and some handy points.

  • • A tough night for Thunder bowlers. The spinners were economical but the pace bowlers went the journey. Garton did pick up two wickets but also bowled some pies that even I could probably hit for six to that short boundary!

  • • Looks like a hamstring injury to McDermott who probably misses some time. The worst SC timing with their double next round.

Sixers vs Scorchers

Result: Sixers won by 14 runs

Takes:

  • • Two changes for the Sixers. Ins were Steve Smith and Joel Davies. Out were their internationals in Vince and Akeal. 3 Changes for the away team with Morris, Kelly and Marsh not included. Ins were Fanning, Spoors and Tye.

  • • Steve Smith = gun

  • • Moises = gun

  • • Benny D = batting gun (pinch hitter extraordinaire)

  • • A dirty afternoon for Perth bowlers. Richo and Tye wicketless and expensive.

  • • Cooper did bowl 3 overs. No overs for Aaron Hardie who was dismissed for a golden duck. Looks like I will be starting Hardie in my side next year. He should be cheap as!

  • • Turner = gun

  • • Abbott was expensive (like almost all bowlers in this match) but 4 wickets is very nice for owners.

  • • Henriques with the cheeky over and wicket like he does once in a blue moon.

  • • Fanning was reasonable at the top of the order. He might hold his spot for a few games moving forward. Finn Allen has had a few decent knocks but the opening partnership is an area that has not been a bright spot for the Scorchers in the tournament with numerous combinations tried.

Strikers vs Heat

Result: Strikers won by 56 runs

Takes:

  • • Changes for the Strikers. Ins were Matt Short, Carey, Buckingham and Haskett. Outs were Weatherald, Bazley, Thornton and Boyce. These changes sure did wonders! No changes for the Heat.

  • • Matt Short = gun.

  • • Lynn = gun.

  • • D’Arcy Short = former gun winding back the clock taking 4 wickets.

  • • Alex Ross with another middle order cameo, like he has done a few times this season.

  • • A dirty night for the Heat pace brigade. No wickets and expensive.

  • • Neser promoted to open but that looks like a one off thing due to Munro injury. Stoinis throwback opening the batting and the bowling!

  • • The Heat spinners were equally expensive but did pick up wickets.

  • • Wickets and runs for the Strikers, but a quiet night for all-rounder Overton.

  • • Spencer can whack them. Who knew that?

  • • Some injuries to monitor for Lynn and Munro moving forward in the tournament. Some hamstring tightness or awareness from Lynny and Munro with a finger dislocation or something similar.

Renegades vs Stars

Result: Stars won by 42 runs

Takes:

  • • One change for the in form Stars. Lawrence was out and Rogers was back. 3 changes for the Renegades, Ins were Brown, Dixon and O’Neil. Outs were Wells, Evans and Sandhu.

  • • Maxy = gun

  • • Steketee and Paris = guns on a Marvel wicket. They probably should have been playing since the start of the tournament… Steketee was either bowling wides or wickets it seemed like! 5/17 and 3/13 respectively. Pace bowlers on that deck score well!

  • • Siddle the ageless wonder. 4 overs (including 1 maiden) and 1/13.

  • • 1 over for Stoinis. Beau bowled practically the 4 overs and picked up bonus late wicket.

  • • JFM dismissed just prior to 20! Cheap next season….

  • • All Gades bowlers getting in on the wicket action, apart from the Chief.

  • • Richo may have a hamstring injury. Something to monitor next round.
