The Final Word | Round 6 NRL Supercoach Trades & Captains

Former NRL Supercoach winner Dez Creek shares his strategy and captains for Round 6.

Final Word NRL

Turbo Irvo sits comfortably around the 15000th overall mark after a 1261 this week saw a 10,000 spot jump up the rankings (must’ve been that brilliant X-factor captaincy of Reece Walsh for 66).

With two of five boosts used and plenty of cash generation still unfolding in the CTW position, I’ve decided things are looking good enough to take on a 3rd trade boost this week to sure up the Hooker position whilst clearing a bit of deadweight elsewhere.

Looking around some of the top ranked leagues I’m in it seems that SuperCoach sides seem to be close to 75-80% set already which feels a month faster than usual thanks to the insane cash generation we’ve had over the opening five weeks.

Compound this with the fact that there really haven’t been many surprise packets in terms of scoring or any huge outlier scores (minus Garrick) yet, and we have ourselves a very stacked leaderboard that looks primed for big movements as people look to start differentiating their 2RF and CTW with most FRFs and Halves being relatively set and forget already.

Round 6 NRL Supercoach Strategy

Cory Paix has done a solid job at steadily making money at hooker alongside Sandon Smith, and with a Breakeven of 1 he isn’t an urgent sell, however my eyes are set on Harry Grant who might just start running riot against the Warriors this week in a solid home matchup for the Storm.

Not much more to say on this, he has the upside that other guys just don’t seem to have in the position, and I want to try get the early jump on a big score before the masses swarm on him, simple as that.

J’maine Hopgood will also be making way from my side after not performing to expectations, its time to cut my losses and bring in more in-form players. Siua Wong is that guy for me and at 508k averaging close to 70 with just a single try assist he absolutely reeks of keeper status if he holds down 80mins on that right edge.

I’ll also be looking to bring in Eli Katoa, Angus Crichton and Haumole Ola most likely in that exact order over the coming month of footy just to make sure I have my 2RF affairs in order before taking a punt on some potentially a more rogue looking CTW.

For the SuperCoaches out there looking to buy a POD CTW this week I would say get on Jamayne Isaako. The guy will probably end in the top 6-7 averaging CTW as he normally does, and 114 last week could be the score that sparks his annual try scoring run where he proper sizzles for a month or two. Many will be scared off by his next 3 games against Penrith (H), Storm (H), Raiders (A) but that’s exactly what makes an aggressive move like this so appealing in my opinion.

Jack Gosiewski to Thomas Cant will be my final trade of the boost just to create a bit more cash gen in 2RF to target those guns mentioned above.

Round 6 NRL Supercoach Captains

Captains this week should be relatively straightforward, however as a Kalyn Ponga owner I’m really beginning to wrestle with that home fixture against the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. However, I think I’m going to go with my gut and stick it on KP.

Nathan Cleary is the obvious VC choice against the Phins on Thursday night and let me tell you if there’s one man due a 150 it’s him so we may not even need to worry about picking that perfect C if he comes through for us.

If he doesn’t, then it’s extremely hard to go past Gutho in the sort of form he’s in – another 130 could be on the cards against the leaky Titans.

Ryan Papenhuyzen AKA Captainhuyzen is also due to strike up a big ton and the Warriors matchup means he is more than capable of punishing non-believers.

Payne Haas is always a viable option and will probably belt up a big score after taking last week off without a single tacklebust for the 50% of players who captained him, expect the bounceback as soon as that number drops back to a reasonable 20-30%.

Dez Creek’s Round 6 Trades:

Cory Paix -> Harry Grant

J’maine Hopgood -> Siua Wong

Jack Gosiewski -> Thomas Cant

Captains:

VC: Nathan Cleary

C: Kalyn Ponga
