Spy Talk | Trade & POD Options for Round 11 NRL Supercoach

On this week's Spy Talk, NRL Supercoach expert SC Spy talks through possible trade options and POD plays ahead of Round 11

NRL

Gday,

This week I am sticking with 1 theme and 1 theme only.

Put your feet up, sit back, relax and enjoy the footy.

No urgent need to trade this week, unless you are covering injuries or are in need of bringing in someone who is hurting you (Drinkwater).

Even then, injury-related trades could wait a week unless there is an obvious target.

We are of course all in different scenarios but if you don’t ‘need’ to make a trade this week then I would advise you to hold off and see if any injuries/suspensions occur prior to the first major bye week and of course by this time next week we will know the Origin squads.

Basically, there is a lot of information to come to us in the next 7 days, so I’d hate to see you use a trade or 2 and then realise that you needed other players or could have made better trades if you just waited.

Spy’s Potential Round 11 Trades

Scott Drinkwater

Here is an exception.

Playing at home on a typically dry track,k which is great for attacking footy, I do think you need to get Scotty D in now if you can.

He is coming off scores of 132, 127 & 117 back to back to back.

He could also rise another $50k, so for me, just get him anyway you can and enjoy the show.

You can then look more at round 12 options next week (He has the bye).

Zac Hosking

I love the trade, and he looks a near must from next week onwards now that Nicholson has gone down and he will assume the right edge role.

If he plays 80 minutes, we are absolutely cheering, and I don’t mind the trade this week, but I also wouldn’t mind just getting that confirmation in that he does indeed have 80 minutes locked up.

But if you need a quality number now then sure, go get him!

Lyhkan King-Togia

I don’t mind the purchase if you have a 5-8 to trade, but only if it’s done with a view of freeing up cash and facilitating key upgrades for the coming weeks.

In isolation, he looks capable of scoring well at times, but you could never confidently play him in your 18-man scoring squad, and if he were to score 30-odd again this week, he has the capability of making $60k and then stalling.

So do it for the right reasons, otherwise let’s eye off another cheapie next week. He could pull off a banger in a bye week!

Zac Laybutt & Fletcher Hunt

Here are two options who could be ripe for the picking over the bye period.

Keep a close eye on them and see how they look!

Spy’s POD of the Week

It has to be KL Iro.

The man has scored in every game this season, which can often be a red flag because it seems impossible to keep it up, but I think it’s just an indicator of how good his line running is!

And the beauty of Iro is that if he doesn’t score, he is still likely to get to the 45-50 mark, which is nothing to sneeze at.

He plays some really key rounds in 12, 15 and 16 and despite missing round 18 is a genuine keeper.

He did do a hammy earlier in the season, which is always a concern and makes me keener to perhaps get him next week pre-major bye.

He is also set to be playing in slippery, cold conditions this Saturday in Cronulla, but if you want him now, I understand.

Can Melbourne fix their defence on his edge? It will be an interesting watch.

My Plans

For me, I look pretty set for Round 12 as it stands, so I may even keep the feet up until round 13, which will be post-Origin 1, and we can totally reassess bye round targets and potential keepers.

I am interested in Garrick (how will he fare at centre without DCE? Are Manly in a hole they can’t dig out of?), Iro as discussed, Tapine, Hosking and Hunt as a cheapie who all play round 12.

But I am happy to wait if needed and still get any of those guys after round 12, and also at that time turn our attention to the likes of Jahrome Hughes, Eli Katoa, Jayden Campbell, Koloamatangi & Laybutt.

Some genuinely handy dudes there!

I won’t be forcing anything and will only make the trade if I think it betters my side by a decent amount, but plenty of guys to consider, and it’s why I will be watching particularly closely this weekend.

Good luck, legends.

Do what you need to do for your team!
