Declan Creek
2019 SC Classic overall champion
2019 NRL SuperCoach Champion Dez Creek shares his strategy, trade options and captaincy candidates ahead of Round 13 of the NRL.
NRLAs we leave the first major bye round in our trail, our attention now shifts to round 13 and crucially whether our state of origin impacted supercoach players will back up for their respective clubs.
Hazard a guess at this point in time they will, but you can never be too careful about having a backup plan ready to act out just in case.
Turbo Irvo moved into 3321st overall after 970 in round 12 which seemed around par for the top ranked teams. Not much of a moving week as everyone probably had 10-11 of the exact same infantry going into battle.
Round 13 presents much more of an opportunity at first glance, with many high ceiling players having fantastic looking matchups on paper.
Captaincy and sit vs start looks to be getting more decisive by the week at the minute and could very well be what decides who takes home the 50k and supercoach title come round 26.

The number one trade in this week seems to be unanimous amongst the community, with big Keaon Koloamatangi getting the nod.
Priced at $612k he is ripe for the picking after knocking out a record breaking 96 pts in base stats against the Tigers in round 11. Souths play 6 of the next 6 games so he gives you ideal coverage and seems a no brainer.
Euan Aitken is another man being widely spruiked this week as another valuable bye coverage player from the bunnies. Priced at $534k and dual 2RF/CTW you can’t really go wrong.
I’ve personally owned Aitken on many occasions throughout my supercoach career and he rarely let me down, what you see is what you get and he should cruise along at a close to 70 average which puts him close to keeper status.
Lehi Hopoate impressed with an easy ton last week and was inches away from being 130. The injury to Turbo means he shifts to fullback this week which can only mean more attacking opportunities to showcase his craft. Definite buy if you haven’t already.
Dylan Lucas and Fletcher Sharpe knocked out huge tons against a depleted Penrith team, yet both remain absolute must haves moving forward in my eyes. You just can’t afford to deathride some players and these guys have put their hand up to be undeathrideable this season.
Zac Lomax has many supercoaches on high alert to be another one of these undeathrideable guys after a superb origin performance in game 1.
Lomax is the biggest aerial threat since Tom Cruise and at $728k he genuinely seems underpriced for a guy that’s goal kicking and taking 20+ runs a game with an ability to offload at will.
I made the decision to fade him last season on Origin backup, and he came out and scored 170 which ruined any chance I had at winning another crown, this year I won’t be making the same mistake, Lomax in.
Jaydn Su’A is the other major target that POD hunters might want to take a second look at this week. Priced at $577k he is quietly averaging 60 without a single try or assist in 10 games, in fact he only has one linebreak.
His numbers in terms of tackles and runs don’t particularly stand out for an edge backrower, however his tacklebusting and especially his effective offloads have caught my eye.
The Dragons have an extremely good draw over the next 6 weeks, only missing the round 16 bye, if he can get over for a meat pie or two during this period he can easily be a 70+ averaging player.
Captaincy this week as mentioned earlier is going to be critical. I think most of us will slap the VC on Ryan Papenhuyzen against the Titans and hope that he goes 120+ for an easy loop.
Scott Drinkwater has the Tigers at his mercy up in Townsville the very next game, so we won’t have much time to decide either way.
Nathan Cleary has the Eels at Commbank stadium on Sunday afternoon which could also be a points fest and play right into the king of accumulations hands.
Finally James Tedesco has the Raiders at Allianz stadium for the final game of the round. Teddy might be lactose intolerant because he historically carves up the green machine and is definitely worthy of some armband thought this week if you’re an owner.
Siua Wong -> Keaon Koloamatangi
Thomas Jenkins -> Zac Lomax
VC: Ryan Papenhuyzen
C: Scott Drinkwater
