NFL Supercoach Cheapie Analysis

NFL and Supercoach expert Eden Richards breaks down his thoughts on some of the most popular cheapies for your starting sides

NFL

Picking the right cheapies can make or break your Supercoach season before it’s even begun.

Getting them right will mean you generate cash, put up consistent points, and who knows, maybe they’ll even turn into a keeper.

Getting them wrong can hurt a lot… You’ll have to burn trades getting rid of dead wood, and you may even miss the boat on other cheapies who are quickly going up in price.

I’ve looked at the rookies who look set to start in Week 1, and there’s one clear standout who should be in every single NFL Supercoach team…

Tier 1 – Must Have

Ashton Jeanty (RB) – LV Raiders – $4,650,000

Ashton Jeanty enters the NFL with big wraps, and they are justified.

The Heisman runner-up rushed for over 100 yards in all 14 of Boise State’s games during the 2024 season, including a 267-yard game where he broke a 46-year-old single-game record.

He was taken Pick 6 by the Raiders in the Draft, and he will be a focal point of their offense from the get-go.

He can run and he can catch, making him a dual threat running back who will see plenty of opportunity as a receiver out of the backfield.

Jeanty will generate cash quickly and should be in your team already.

Tier 2 – Buy

Omarion Hampton (RB) – LA Chargers – $4,400,000

We’re lucky this year to have a plethora of rookie running backs to choose from, and Omarion Hampton is one you should be buying.

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman have made the message loud and clear: the Chargers are going to run the football, and they’re going to run it with purpose.

That is why they drafted Hampton and why I expect him to feature prominently.

Yes, there’s a chance he splits carries with Najee Harris early in the season, but it shouldn’t take long for him to become the Chargers’ clear RB1.

He’ll be in my starting side come Week 1.

Tetairoa McMillan (WR) – Carolina Panthers – $4,600,000

The Panthers have found their WR1 for quarterback Bryce Young.

Tetairao McMillan was taken Pick 8 in the Draft, and since the,n his Supercoach stocks have continued to rise.

Carolina has traded Adam Thielen back to the Vikings, while fellow wide receiver Jalen Coker has been added to IR with a quad injury.

This can only mean good things for McMillan, who is set to see a plethora of targets.

He topped 1,300 receiving yards in his last two College seasons, and I believe he’ll crack 1,000 yards in his rookie NFL season.

He’s cheap, will make cash, and should put up decent scores. Get him in your team!

Travis Hunter (WR) – Jacksonville Jaguars – $4,700,000

I’ve been umming and ahhing about Travis Hunter and whether to start with him, but at this point in time, he’s in my squad.

I think you just have to pick him on potential alone.

He was the most talented player in the draft, and the Jags traded up to get him, so they’re going to use him.

My reservations come from the fact that he will be used on both sides of the ball, but the latest from the Jags is that he will predominantly feature on offense, and I’m choosing to trust them.

There is just so much upside to him.

I’d understand if coaches want to wait and see how Jacksonville uses him, but be careful not to miss the boat…

Tier 3 – Avoid

Cam Ward (QB) – Tennessee Titans – $4,700,000

You might be looking at this and wondering why I’ve relegated Cam Ward to Tier 3, so let me tell you why.

The No.1 pick in the Draft will make his NFL debut at Mile High Stadium, one of the toughest road trips in the NFL.

The Denver Broncos have arguably the best defence in the NFL, topping the League in sacks last season and having Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II lining up at cornerback.

I absolutely hate this match-up for Ward, and I hate having rookie quarterbacks anywhere near my side.

Last season, not one of the six rookie quarterbacks threw a touchdown through the first two games of the season.

It is incredibly hard to come into the NFL and immediately excel at quarterback, and I expect Ward to struggle early.

He may come good as the season progresses, but I expect his scores to be low and his cash generation to be slow.

He will not be in my team.

Colston Loveland (TE) – Chicago Bears – $4,550,000

Colston Loveland surprised plenty of pundits when he was the first TE off the board.

Most thought Tyler Warren would go first, and if you’re looking for a rookie TE at a cheap price, Warren is your man.

He simply has way more upside than Loveland and will see a huge target share at the Colts.

On the other hand, the Bears have plenty of mouths to feed.

Loveland will not only share targets with fellow tight end Cole Kmet, but he also has to contend with the likes of DJ Moore, D’Andre Swift, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden III all competing for targets.

I’d be avoiding Loveland, locking in two established tight ends, and picking Warren as your other tight end on your bench.
