Jamie Porra
NFL fantasy and Supercoach veteran
NFL Fantasy and Supercoach veteran Jamie Porra runs us through his starting side for the NFL Supercoach season.
NFLWe’re so close you can practically taste it.
24 hours until season 2025 kicks off, and we get to sink our teeth into the week-in, week-out of NFL Supercoach for the very first time.
I’ve gone through a bunch of iterations of this squad, and I’m at a point where I can be fairly certain, at least until I change my mind again in 3 hours time, that this is the roster I’m going to roll with.
With the way SC has chosen to price rookies, I believe there are quite a few ‘must-haves’ to kick off the year, so I won’t spend as much time analysing those.
But I’ll give you my thought process on the spots where there’s some debate.
Let’s dig in.

Don’t think I’m going to be blowing any minds with my picks at this spot, but I also don’t think there’s any reason to overthink this one.
Lamar Jackson – $30.01 million
Best player in fantasy, should be the best player in Supercoach.
Huge rushing upside, great team around him once again.
Lock him in.
Embed from Getty ImagesJosh Allen – $28.18 million
If he’s not the best player in fantasy, he’s a very close second.
Loves calling his own number in the red zone, still an ascending player.
No signs of him slowing down.
JJ McCarthy – $3.7 million
I just can’t pass up the value of a starting quarterback at minimum price.
With the offensive talent he has surrounding him, and QB whisperer Kevin McConnell calling plays for him, it’s tough to see him not making huge cash.
Just Missed
Only other consideration here was Cam Ward at $4.7 million, but I just trust the Vikings’ infrastructure a lot more than the Titans.
Embed from Getty ImagesThis is where things get a little more interesting.
No Saquon, no Henry and no Jahmyr Gibbs for me, which is painful.
I’m chasing some value at a slightly lower price point.
Bijan Robinson – $21.43 million
Going as the first RB drafted in traditional NFL fantasy leagues, and we can get him as the 4th most expensive running back in NFLSC.
He’s an emerging superstar who is the centrepiece of his offense, and he went completely ballistic at the back end of last season once Michael Penix took the reins.
Also plays in a division where he gets to play 6 games against sub-par defences.
Locked into my team.
Embed from Getty ImagesChristian McCaffrey – $18.37 million
This is a recent addition to my squad.
Jahmyr Gibbs was here for the longest time, but the more I’ve dug into it, the more I’ve leaned towards CMC.
He’s had a very healthy off-season, he’s the most prolific RB in fantasy when on the field, and the 49ers have perhaps the easiest schedule in all of football.
With the uncertainty around Gibbs’ back field share, I’m happy to take the discount on McCaffrey and hope he’s back to his best.
Ashton Jeanty – $4.65 million
When you can grab a guy going at the Round 1/2 turn in fantasy drafts for almost minimum price, you just go ahead and do that.
Must have.
Embed from Getty ImagesOmarion Hampton – $4.4 million
Same logic here.
Going in the 3rd round in serious fantasy drafts, and we can get him for nothing.
Lion’s share of the carries on a team that’s going to run the piss out of the ball.
Yes please.
TreVeyon Henderson – $4.15 million
A little less certainty on the size of his role, but he’s too talented not to grab a bunch of work and do it quickly.
Going in the 4th round of serious fantasy drafts.
In my team.
Embed from Getty ImagesRJ Harvey – $3.75 million
Rookie running back on an up-and-coming Sean Payton offence, and if there’s one thing Sean Payton teams do, it’s throw the ball to the running back.
He’ll be splitting time with JK Dobbins, but he’s explosive, and he’ll get the valuable receiving touches.
He’ll make money, and also a bit of a POD at 15% ownership.
Just Missed
Derrick Henry’s only in 13% of teams, which feels crazy for the perennial powerhouse.
We could easily look up in 4 weeks and Jahmyr Gibbs is the runaway best RB in NFLSC.
Chase Brown & Bucky Irving are both underpriced compared to where they are going in drafts and could make a big leap.
Embed from Getty ImagesThe top of this position is probably where the toughest decisions in Supercoach need to be made.
There are 10-12 extremely talented options, and much of it comes down to personal preference.
I’ll walk you through my thinking.
Ja’Marr Chase – $23.58 million
Blew up fantasy football last season, and there doesn’t seem to be any reason why he should slow down.
Bengals D looks awful, and they’re going to be chucking it.
Must have.

Nico Collins – $17.32 million
A few different reasons why I’ve landed on Nico to start the year.
He’s going as the 4th wide receiver off the board in fantasy drafts, and we can get him at 7th most expensive in SC.
He’s CJ Stroud’s most important target, and there is a lot of unproven receiving talent around him.
He’s a semi-POD at 17% ownership.
But what swung me most was his early season schedule – he gets the Rams, Bucs, Jags, and Titans to start the season, all of whom have shaky secondaries at best.
I think he starts fast.
Embed from Getty ImagesCeeDee Lamb – $16.6 million
He’s just way too cheap.
Going as the WR2 in fantasy drafts, and he’s priced as the WR12 in SC.
Dak is back, and particularly after the Micah Parsons trade, the Cowboys look set to be in a whole bunch of shootouts.
I can’t pass him up.
Drake London – $15.95 million
Probably the selection with the highest chance of changing by Sunday, but his credentials do look strong.
The WR9 in fantasy drafts, priced as the WR15 in SC.
Had an immediate connection with Michael Penix at the back end of last season and was peppered with targets.
Gets the Bucs, Panthers and Commanders defences in the first month of the season, none of whom can defend the pass.
He’s tempting.
Embed from Getty ImagesTravis Hunter – $4.7 million
Generational-level freak who’s set to play both offence and defence, which you just don’t see.
Coaching staff saying he’ll play 80% of snaps on the offensive side, which is enough for me with his talent and at this price.
Tetairoa McMillan – $4.6 million
Top 10 pick in the real-life draft who steps right into the primary receiver role for the Panthers.
Must have.
Emeka Egbuka – $4.45 million
Stud rookie who’s suddenly looking at a huge role with Jalen McMillan’s injury and the slow return of Chris Godwin.
Has blown people away with how quickly he’s picked things up in the NFL.
Lock.
Embed from Getty ImagesMatthew Golden – $4.35 million
As the entire Packers receiving corps has battled injuries throughout the offseason, Golden has been the one constant.
The rookie has a legitimate shot at leading the Packers in targets right away.
Great pick.

Malik Nabers is supremely talented but the Giants early schedule is brutal.
Justin Jefferson is a fine selection but there’s a touch of uncertainty around how JJ McCarthy affects his output.
Brian Thomas Jr would be the one to join my squad if I shifted Drake London out.
He’s going to be a superstar this year and the Jags have a beautiful opening schedule.
Tyreek Hill is severely discounted if we see the best version of him.
Marvin Harrison Jr is going far higher in fantasy drafts than he’s priced in SC, and could make a second year leap.
Same deal for Xavier Worthy, Jaylen Waddle & George Pickens are second receivers on their respective teams who look set for big bounce-back years, and are underpriced.
Embed from Getty ImagesNot too many surprises are going on at this spot.
Trey McBride – $14.33 million
Really surprised that he’s at 15% ownership.
He’s the Cardinals #1 receiver, and he’s run way under expectation for TDs his last two seasons.
Piles up receptions for fun.
Going early in the third round of sharp fantasy drafts.
He hasn’t left my team.
Brock Bowers – $14.26 million
Record-breaking rookie season in 2024, and has had a significant upgrade at head coach and quarterback over the off-season.
Real lack of competition for targets as well.
Locked and loaded.
Embed from Getty ImagesTyler Warren – $4.5 million
Late riser in fantasy drafts as he looked to be a centerpiece of the Colts offense, playing a huge percentage of snaps for a rookie tight end.
Rookie who seemingly can do it all and won’t come off the field, for close to minimum price.
I’ll take it.
Just Missed
George Kittle might be the best tight end in real life football, but there are so many mouths to feed in that Niners offense.
I see the same issue with Sam LaPorta.
Colston Loveland will come into contention at some point, but he’s got real target competition and looks like he’ll be splitting tight end snaps with Cole Kmet to start the year.
I can’t pick him over Tyler Warren.
Embed from Getty ImagesThis might be the spot I’ve struggled with the most.
I think there’s a bunch of different ways you can go, as some of the more talented defences face some difficult opening schedules.
My selections here could still change.
Denver Broncos – $12.44 million
Feels like a lot to spend on a defense, but I am trying to pay up for a team that I believe I can just pick and stick for the season.
They’re packed with talent, including Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain, and they also face rookie Cam Ward and below-average Daniel Jones to open the year.
Seattle Seahawks – $9.14 million
This is the biggest POD pick in my team.
I don’t love the week 1 match-up, but then they get a bunch of attackable QBs and offensive lines after that with the Saints, Steelers, Cardinals, Jags and Texans all in the opening 7 weeks.
Mike McDonald is a defensive mastermind, and they’ve got a stockpile of talent.
Just Missed
The Patriots are the value defence to target if you’re looking to save money.
The Steelers could still make my team – they get Justin Fields and Sam Darnold to start.
The Ravens and Bills are both in contention but have tough starts to the year, including playing each other week 1.
The Lions have almost their entire defence returning from injury, but play in a really rough division.
The Packers, now with Micah Parsons, have the same issue.
The Texans look scary on paper, but get 3 tough match-ups to kick things off with the Rams, Bucs, and Jags.
Embed from Getty ImagesI’m upset I even have to talk about this, as kickers have no place in fantasy football and should be removed from society at large.
This position is a total crapshoot, and I have very little confidence in any picks outside of Brandon Aubrey, but I’m hesitant to spend that much on a kicker.
Here are my very unsure picks.
Matt Gay – $10.38 million
This is a POD play at 0.9% ownership, and a way to save some cash from Aubrey.
Austin Seibert, the Commanders’ starting kicker in 2024, only started 9 games due to injury, but was the highest scoring kicker on a per-game basis in that time.
Gay is more talented than he was and is paid as such.
Washington is expected to be a really strong offense, and there should be plenty of kicking opportunities as a result.
Tyler Loop – $3.7 million
Rookie kicker starting for a top 3 team in the NFL.
Has looked the part in the pre-season, making his kicks at a good clip, including some bombs from deep.
I’m happy to take the value with him.
Just Missed
I am not writing any more words on kickers.
