NBA Supercoach Week 6 | Buy, Hold, Sell

Fantasy veteran and Basketball Forever founder Alex Sumsky goes through the best Buy, Hold, and Sell options for week 6

NBA

Everyone’s favourite time of the week, where I pretend to know what’s going to happen in the next 7 days of NBA Supercoach based on player form, injury news, upcoming schedules, and an intimate knowledge of 2010’s basketball. Is that all relevant? Only time will tell.

BUY

Cade Cunningham (DET, PG/SG)

Not only does Cade look like he’s getting better every year he’s in the league, but he might actually be getting better every week.

The former No. 1 overall pick missed a handful of games last week but has slotted straight back in like he just went and polished off a nice cold Gatorade.

The best player on the best team in the East currently, and they have 4 games coming up this week.

Get him in.

Josh Giddey (CHI, PG/SF)

We had The Giddler on the Hold list last week to see if he would keep up the heat with Coby White back in the Bulls line up…well, he just went and averaged a triple-double in the last 7 days with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, equating to a more than healthy 116 SC points.

He’s going to go up in price again for Week 6, but he’s giving the production of a $20m+ player, so he’s worth the shot (plus you get say The Giddler way more often, which is worth a couple of million on its own).

Bennedict Mathurin (IND, SF/SG)

Finally! After 3 weeks of articles saying “watch out for Mathurin when he’s back”…he’s back.

Sure, he’s going to give some rough shooting nights, but the Pacers are in desperate need of firepower, and Bennedict definitely thinks of himself as a flamethrower.

His 3 games since returning have delivered 23 point / 7 rebound averages, and at a Supercoach price of $10m (at time of writing), you’re getting bang for your buck there.

Indiana also has a 4-game week coming up, just in case you were on the fence.

Derik Queen (NOP, C/PF)

It’s like the Pelicans had enough of Zion’s injury worries, so they went and drafted Zion Junior.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the Derik Queen experience, then make it a priority, as he’s single-handedly trying to make New Orleans watchable.

While averaging almost 18 points with 8 boards and 5 assists for the last 7 days is fantastic, especially at less than $7m, it’s the 29 minutes a game that might be most encouraging, as it looks like the Pels are committed to letting the big man play.

HOLD

Nikola Jokic (DEN, C)

Okay, so obviously you’re not selling The Joker, we really just had to have him in here somewhere as he tops the Supercoach weekly points total yet again.

Just the 182 for the big Serbian in Week 5, dare we say disappointing after his previous 4-game week saw him top the 200 mark.

Yes, it might be a two-man race for the MVP with Shai, but you feel like you’re watching one of the all-time greats when Jokic is in the form he’s in this season.

Sit back and enjoy.

Kon Knueppel (CHA, SF/SG)

Free the Knueppel!

We exercised caution with Kon last week because, as good as he’s been, he had LaMelo and Brandon Miller both due to return for the Hornets.

Well, they did, and it didn’t matter.

He’s averaged a barely believable 25 points and 5 rebounds over the last 7 days and led the team in minutes over that span.

All that said, Miller is still being eased back into the rotation, so if you have Knueppel, he’s worth holding for another week, but keep an eye on how things shape up.

VJ Edgecombe (PHI, SG/PG) & Cedric Coward (MEM, SG/SF)

Two of the most popular “cheapies” in the game, VJ is the second most owned overall at 52% with Coward at 28%.

Both have had a slightly quieter couple of weeks after scorching starts, but are still absolutely worth keeping on the roster at their respective price points, as they continue to go well beyond their breakeven scores and should continue to rise in value.

SELL

Wemby Giannis

Two of the biggest names in the game, two of the top four overall SC point scorers before Week 5, two very annoying injuries for Supercoach players.

Giannis’s injury is more short-term term but he’s still a sell this week with the amount of salary cap he eats up.

Wemby looks to be out for multiple weeks, so while it hurts to see him miss games, enjoy the $22m+ you’ll add to your coffers once you hit the sell button.

Paolo Banchero (ORL, PF/SF)

This is really a sell on all Orlando players with just the 2 games this week, but we’ll focus on Paolo here, who is the highest owned Magic Man at 22%.

He’s missed 6 straight games, so even if he did get back in action at the next opportunity, he’ll likely be eased back on a minutes restriction.

If you’ve got him and need a new PF, maybe sell Paolo, slot in Derick Queen, and buy yourself something nice with the $10m in change.

Washington Players

More of a public service announcement, really, as there isn’t a Washington player with more than 10% ownership, but along with Orlando, the Wiz are the only other team with 2 games for Week 6.

All you Corey Kispert owners (0.1%) better have a plan B up your sleeves!

Aaron Gordon (DEN, PF/C)

Another player with low ownership levels (2.4%), so this one is actually less about the “sell” and more about the opportunity his 4-6 week hamstring injury might mean for others.

Keep an eye on Peyton Watson ($7.67m), who’s been putting up numbers recently (15 points + 8 boards in the last week) and appears the most likely to see extra run with AG out.
