Final Word | NBA Supercoach week 7, trades, skippers, strategy

Supercoach veteran Stephen Defries reveals his trades, captains and point of difference players to consider for Supercoach NBA week 7

NBA

Week 6 of NBA SuperCoach was not fun.

With most coaches unable to field a full squad playing 4 games, high scores were going to be hard to come by as it was.

What we didn’t need was a Bennedict Mathurin disaster class. 50 points in 4 games.

What was that!

We had a slow start from Jalen Johnson, Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Duren, with the latter being ruled out of the final game of the week.

Both Cunningham and Johnson redeemed themselves with big scores the rest of the way.

The 830 coaches who brought in Karl-Anthony Towns looked like geniuses when he exploded for 52 points against the Nets.

Unfortunately, he followed that up with 22, 16, and 19. Yuck.

A lot of coaches had to choose between dropping either Markkanen or Avdija.

Markkanen flopped with just 52 points for the week, while Avdija exploded with 49 points in his final game to take his weekly total to 102 points.

Fortunately, I chose correctly here.

Those who kept SGA were rewarded handsomely with his per-game average of 36 points.

I’ll leave that there.

The play of the week was bringing in Doncic, even though he was on a 3-game week.

He averaged over 40 and outscored many on a 4-game week. Well done.

Despite the tough week, ‘The Closers’ managed to essentially maintain ranking.

A word of warning for game week 7.

This week includes one extra day of game play with Tuesday games, Australian time, rounding out the week.

There is then a break for SuperCoach until the following Wednesday after the NBA Cup finals.

Guns

The Joker returns to a 4-game week but once again had a questionable tag in the final game of the week and has been listed as probable for tomorrow.

It’s an ongoing wrist issue he’s been managing for a couple of seasons.

It feels like a rest is coming soon.

Monitor closely.

Luka magic will be the most traded in this week, along with a returning Giannis, who are both close to must owns.

Team value will likely determine if you can trade in both whilst keeping SGA or Cade.

If it’s one of these two for Luka, then I’d probably do it.

Maxey has graduated to Gun status for me and will be the forgotten man this week.

A possible zag to everyone’s zig.

Midrange

With 25 teams on a 4-game week and many of last week’s trade-ins on that list, it doesn’t look like a week for value buys.

With no teams on a 4-game week and just 10 on a 3-game week, game week 8 is tricky.

Sarr, Bridges, or Amen Thompson could be great pick-ups here as they play max games over the next fortnight.

At a more expensive price point, I like Edwards or Sengun.

Sengun should bounce back from some lower scores, while Edwards has stepped up his usage and production.

Cheapies

A tough week for out-and-out downgrade options this week, with the best cheapies at the awkward 7-9mil price point.

Egor Demin or Will Richard may be the best options with secure roles.

POD’s

Amen Thompson HOU – 5.3% owned

The player voted by GMs as the most likely to have a breakout season hasn’t quite achieved that yet, but it could be a matter of time.

Kevin Durant HOU – 4.2% owned

KD has looked sharp and, most importantly, happy in Houston.

Capable of averaging 35 plus on any given week, so timing will be important.

Josh Hart NYK – 0.7% owned

Moved back into the starting lineup last week, Hart has been balling out with scores of 27, 36, 36, and 37.

Points, value, and maximum games over the next fortnight.

If we can get word he’s now 100% a starter, I’m bringing him in.

Tyler Herro MIA – 0.4% owned

Out to start the season, Herro returned in game week 6 with scores of 31, 37, and 19.

Shooting 54% from the floor and 50% from 3, he’s on a heater.

Schedule

Best (4 and 3 games over next 2 weeks)

NYK, CHI, TOR, ATL, HOU, MIN, SAS, WAS, MIA

Good (4 games this week)

MIL, IND, NOP, LAL, DET, DAL, PHI, GSW, CHA, LAC, UTA, DEN, BKN, BOS, CLE, POR, ORL

Trade & Skipper Plans

Looks like I’ll only be able to bring in 1 of Luka and Giannis, and at this stage I’m leaning towards Luka.

This would mean downgrading Rollins to a bottom-priced cheapie, then moving Duren to Luka in my Flex.

My final trade will be Mathurin to Sarr or Hart.

Get that garbage outta here!

Good luck all, and remember, stay patient.
