Supercoach BBL expert the SC Spy reveals his starting Supercoach side with analysis ahead of BBL|15.
BBLG’day everyone,
Holiday short form cricket season is almost here to add on to an already tantalising Ashes Series, and I’m here with what I would call my pre-season train on squad.
That being it should be extremely close to the mark, but I tend to be a bloke who loves a cram session and I’ll dead set go in the coming days and be up to all hours. I do love that time pressure!
Having also now finished my full season fixture strategy to figure out how to get max numbers or close to in terms of games played (Ie – the Langley Method) I’m ready to go!
Players numbers from teams on the double for round 1 are essentially set and I can then adjust accordingly if breakevens, form, injuries and the like dictate.
Let’s get into how it currently looks which hopefully isn’t too far off the mark.

Matt Wade or Ben McDermott
I’ll pick whichever one has the gloves for game 1. Both capable and both a little streaky but WKP is not a hot spot regardless and they play two doubles in the first 3 rounds.
Cameron Bancroft
He is a classy cricketer who can sit on my bench round 1, play the double for me in round 2, back to the bench round 3 and moved onto Finn Allen for Perth round 4 double who will then become the perfect loop option following his double.

First picked. Owen can simply destroy you if you don’t own, so it would take a brave Supercoach to leave him out in the hope he fails twice with the bat and doesn’t really bowl.
Of course at the price he could in theory drop cash, but for me with five games in the opening three rounds it’s just as easy as that.
Also remember that his outrageous BBL Final form isn’t included in his average/starting price.
Plus, he is my boy because I picked him before anyone else last season. #claimed
Tim David
In a similar mould but less scary. David does have extreme upside and his form in the last 12 months has been career best.
I’m happy to back him in again with five games in the first three rounds.
Surely there’s a couple of vintage knocks in those opening five and maybe bowls a few overs?

I don’t love the wicket-keeper options as a whole and Philippe isn’t overly expensive.
He could easily score under 10 twice in round 1 but he also is capable of going boom and will hopefully take some catches across the two opening games, before getting flicked to a cheaper keeper on an upcoming double.
Having both Philippe and a wicketkeeper from Hobart will ensure I can get five double and four bye round loops out of my wicketkeeper.
Jack Edwards
I love this fella, as does Maxxy Bryden.
With the double in round 1 he picks himself for me.
Babar Azam
To be honest, I’m not exactly sure how the Sixers will line up and would potentially prefer one of their bowlers as I can move one of my bowling all rounders up to a batting slow.
But there is also the theory that you can take a world class batsmen for a double off the bat and hope he tees off.
Regardless I can take a punt and then sell him on immediately if required.
It’s not like I need him to perform for 6 rounds or so. I’m tempted to put him in despite batsmen often taking time to acclimatise in Australia.
At least he has played here before a bit with the Pakistani national team. The Sixers team line up will determine his fate.

Mitch Marsh
Anyone that know me knows that Mitchy was first picked.
I’ll put the Emergency on him for game 1 and loop if necessary. Fresh off a T20 ton in NZ it’s a free hit and will be ready for the round 4 double and hopefully make cash and force people to get him in early and burn a boost.
Daniel Sams
Ready for round 2 and underpriced based on previous years. Dual role and injury impacted last season.

Ellis is typically consistent and importantly is locked into the Hobart side, so injuries aside he will play five games in the first three rounds.
He could potentially lose a little cash, but hopefully he stays steady and scores decently.
Ben Dwarshuis
The Ellis of the Sixers in that he is guaranteed his spot in the team.
I’m hoping he can continue on with his form with the bat from last season and we know he is a gun wicket-taker. VC option.
Xavier Bartlett
Ready for the round 2 double and quite simply he is a star. I think he is underpriced also.
Rishad Hossain
This will be based on role when we get line ups for their first game, but Hossain is right in the mix given his potential. Not locked in yet though.
Numbers stack up for a good selection the first three rounds but I’d like some clarity on his selection and role.

Shadab Khan
A quality allrounder and in my side to play round 1 and then ready for that round 2 double for his Sydney Thunder!
I’m excited to own Shadab and he may not leave my side. Form shall dictate!
Bench
Aaron Hardie
If he isn’t looking like bowling I may reconsider. That being said if he can find his form of the two seasons before last he is about half price even if he doesn’t bowl!
Hardie looks a good money maker and also will be ready for a double in round 4.
Will Salzmann
I currently need him to afford my team makeup. If none of the Perth boys go well in game 1 however I could consider going a full squad of players. I’ll assess after Sunday night. Injured, basement price and dual position so he is the absolute perfect loop!

At the moment it is Ahmed who is another allrounder locked into my Flex.
This of course depends on this Hobart game 1 lineup, so he could be changed if required.
Looking at the Langley method of maximising double game scores this should get me up to 56 doubles across the season without factoring in any boosts.
Good luck legends, it’s go time!
