Cricket and Supercoach expert Max Bryden gives his player watchlist ahead of Round 6 of BBL Supercoach, focusing on the Sydney Sixers on the double
BBLTwo losses for the Stars, but some decent scoring still across the board this round – unless you’re Glenn Maxwell.
We’re now over the halfway mark and into the home stretch of BBL Supercoach. Across the league, most of the guns and all-rounders that we won’t hold have emerged already. And only half the competition still has doubles to come.
The Sydney Sixers are on a double this week. The ‘Canes, ‘Gades and Strikers still have doubles to come. That means those four sides have five matches remaining – everyone else only has four.
We are here to talk the double but before we do, here’s my observations from Round 5.
The Sydney Sixers are on the double game week in Round 6, playing Game 1 against the Brisbane Heat at Coffs and Game 4 against the Stars at the MCG.
The Sixers have one bye to come in Round 8 but also finish with the double in Round 9. If you can manage to find guys you’re comfortable holding for the season, you can maximise your score involvements.
Coffs is a good place to bat with very short square boundaries. It’s always been decent for spinners. Rain has interrupted a lot of previous games but so far seems to be staying away.
The wild card in all of this is Sam Curran, the Sixers number 1 draft pick who is fresh of captaining the Desert Vipers to the ILT20 Title overnight.
You might know him as a bowling allrounder, but he’s truly more of a batter these days. Where he slots in will have serious impacts on many of the popular VC options.
If you’re not keen on Sixers, players from the ‘Gades or Strikers are also worth targeting. The ‘Canes also have the double next week but are on the bye so if you’re wanting to get a double player in before their price rise it’s a good week to strike.

Bowling seriously well despite a leaner period with the bat of late. The obvious VC option.
Sean Abbott – BWL
A classy 3fa against the Renegades in his second game back plus a low breakeven. A player you can hold and play in single game weeks on pedigree.
Ben Dwarshuis – BWL
Despite a seeming drop in form, Dwarshuis remains an elite talent bowling at the right time of the game. The fact he’s being used as a pinch hitter to float in the order adds to his appeal.

The form batsman, and a good record at Coffs. He’s so obvious that perhaps you just do it, unless you think there’s a case to go against? Quite pricey for a bat only.
Joel Davies – BAT/BWL
The breakout young player of the tournament. Davies is getting his overs and has taken regular wickets.
Showed last game even when that doesn’t happen that he can score in other ways with a match-winning cameo with the bat.
He’s a little pricey for someone whose not an absolute ‘lock’ but on form he’s a solid buy.
Dan Hughes – BAT
The only other top 4 batter with a solid form line, Hughes has reached 20 three times in his season to-date.
Babar Azam – BAT
Hasn’t looked at his imperious best but still boasts two half-centuries.
His scoring rate is modest, which has held back his Supercoach points, but you could take a punt at his price.

His bowling loads have increased and he’s entrenched at number 5 for the Strikers.
He’s not cheap but his quality is there.
Hassan Khan – BAT/BWL
A cheapie whose flown under the radar.
Has benefited from the injury to Adam Zampa which has increased the dependency on his bowling.
Has had one good knock so far and with an upcoming double, he could be worth a punt.
Will Sutherland – BAT/BWL
Only two wickets in his last four games, and yet to pace 20 with the bat.
Yet Chief is still there abouts as a guy you’d target heavily for the upcoming Renegades double in Round 8.
If they persist with the lineup of only selecting two quicks, he will bowl death overs which is what you want to see.
David Warner – Bat
After a slow start last year his Supercoach scores were 116, 70, 74, 108, 18, 42.
He’s a guy who can obviously have form swings and with a low breakeven you could take a huge swing at.

The job security is poor. The most likely guy to drop out for Sam Curran.
Sam Curran – BAT/BWL
Not here for Game 1. Risky to take him as a single game week player but would be a super POD.
Jordan Silk – BAT
Not getting much of a chance and looks in poor touch.
Will Prestwidge – BWL
People will be tempted by the 2fa he jagged to start the match the other night, but we need the bowlers bowling four.
Embed from Getty ImagesI own Jack Edwards and Joel Davies already, so I am targeting two Sixers to get my numbers up to four.
With my poor rank, I want to go against Josh Philippe with his high ownership.
I have also sold all but one Hurricane and need to consider my doubles moving forward – I only want to trade for players from the Sixers, Strikers, Renegades and Hurricanes to increase my scoring involvement.
OUTS: Jack Wildermuth, Joe Clarke, Tom Curran
INS: Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Will Sutherland/Liam Scott
If the Renegades go with the same lineup with only two quicks, Sutherland is a good purchase.
Otherwise I’ll take a punt on Scott with a nice role.
