Thommo Aitken
2019 SuperCoach BBL overall champion
Former Supercoach Big Bash champion Thommo Aitken goes through his Supercoach takeaways from each game of BBL Supercoach round 7
BBLWelcome to our review article at SC Playbook where we review the action from the previous round and see what impact it had on our side and what we can learn from it.
Round 7 is in the books and with two teams on the double, many coaches were hoping for high scores. The odd double game player did (Short and Scott top scoring with 134 SC points), but many did not as it was a batters paradise for many during round 7.
Top ten SC point scorers for the included batters like Scott, Harper, Marsh, Brown, Khawaja and Warner!
Fantastic for owners!

Takes:
One change for the Hobart Hurricanes. More batting preferred with Prestwidge out and Mac Wright in at 7.
One change for Adelaide too with the international swap again. Ali out and Shamsi in.
He only bowled one expensive over but that does not matter one iota when you come in at 5 and make 91 not out off 58 balls.
122 SC points and clearly the top scorer from the game.
Definitely not a true all rounder. A batter who rolls the arm over.
All round role for Matt Short. Just no wickets, runs or economic bowling. 13 SC and not a great start for those that put the C there.
Hopefully he goes better second game. His batting has dropped off the last couple of years though from the ultra lofty heights from seasons past.
Only 3/7 games past the 20 run mark this year. 3/7 games last season too where he went past this mark.
Go back another one it was 8/11.

He had opportunity with the bat but couldn’t take advantage. He hasn’t really put an innings of note together. Yet….
Lots of Adelaide bowlers expensive, no massive scores from a Hurricanes batter. Lots of starts and a team effort.
Ellis and Meredith awesome early, both taking 2 wickets each in the powerplay and the game was over.
80 SC points for Meredith and only 48 SC points for Ellis who only bowled 2 overs and failed to earn the economy bonus from bowling the 3rd over.
3 wickets for Hossain who has the ability to take multiple wickets in a game. 89 SC points.
82 SC points for Ahmed. Batted 3, activated the strike ate bonus, bowled 4 overs and picked up a wicket.
3 overs for the first time this tournament for Chaudhary.
One for Owen (who looked back to old from with the bat which was great to see!) Chaudhary did bowl the first over but I get the sense that most of these overs were given during junk time when the game was over.

Takes:
The Thunder won the toss and batted. A rarity these days. Probably only because it was one of very few day games.
Many high quality ins for the Heat. Ins were Ussie, Marnus and Zaman Khan. Outs were Hearne, Weibgen and Patterson.
Changes for the Thunder too. Outs were McAndrew and Konstas. Ins were Bancroft and Hadley.
Warner continue his hot streak with the bat. 82 runs off 56 balls and 107 SC points.
It makes you wonder why he was used as low as number 4 earlier in the tournament.
Heat batters dominated. 42 not out for Renshaw and the true all-rounder role for him and he also took 2/29 off his 4 overs.
A mammoth 132 SC points and he has had a ripper tournament.
Overs for Renshaw (and McSweeney and Marnus) meant none for Wildermuth. Luckily for owners he made quick runs to start of the innings. 74 SC points.
No overs with the team changes means he should be a sell next week.
Runs for Ussie too. 113 SC points.
Thunder look at great match up to target for the run home. Unsurprisingly as they sit bottom of the ladder….
Apart from the batters mentioned above, no one else from either side scored over 50 SC points.
A real game for the batters this one!

Takes:
Tom Curran back from hip soreness for Hatcher in the only change for the Stars.
Two changes for the Renegades. Peake and Elliot out. In for their first games in Renegade colours were Doggett and Jewell.
Changes for the batting order. JFM in at 3 and Jewell slotting into that number 5 spot.
Only one Renegade batter making runs. 80 runs and 115 SC points.
For those wanting a Gade batter for the double, he is the one in the best current form recently with a couple of good knocks.
Hindsight is a valuable thing and only Hassan Khan was the Renegade bowling option worth going on.
Batting at 6, he made 23 runs and he picked up the only bowling wicket. 1/20 off his 3 overs. 62 SC points.
Only 11 SC points for Sandhu, 6 SC for Sutherland and 2 for Behrendorff.

What a tournament for Sammy Harper. 129 SC points for Harper and 88 SC for Rogers.
No batting for Stoinis, no dramas for SC scoring though. 3 wickets 74 SC points for him to be one of the best selections in the game.
24 SC points for Maxy.
1 over to start and that was it for the bowling. Batted at 4, and 20 off 17 balls to no activate the strike rate bonus.
He also had some luck when we was put down when on not many runs.
A further price drop. When does he become a trade in option?

Takes:
A rain affected game.
Steve Smith in for the Sixers and opened the batting. Silk was the omission.
Two changes for the Hurricanes. Popular player this round Ellis was rested and Mac Wright was omitted. The two ins were Beau Webster and Big Billy Stanlake.
Webster was bowling.

Changes for both sides. For the Strikers ins were Ali, Carey and Boyce. Outs were Shamsi, Wadia and Sangha.
For the Scorchers ins were Inglis and Holt. Outs were Hobson and Paris.
Mitch Marsh enjoyed the short square boundaries. 123 SC points.
Imagine how many points if he was rolling the arm over these days!
Matt Short with an allrounder’s game. Fielding points, bowling points and batting points. The Matt Short we all know and love!
121 SC points and rewarding those that went the captain or kept the VC faith after the first game!
An all-rounder night for Hardie too. 89 SC points after gaining fielding, bowling and batting points too!
Embed from Getty ImagesCooper has gone missing with the bat after the bright start for the tournament.
He is bowling many overs so he too is a real all-rounder. Hopefully he gets that rhythm back with the bat and just takes it a bit easier to commence his innings!
Bowlers bowling at the end of the second innings when they game is petering out and batters are swinging before they are set can be absolute gold.
Payne and Beardman the beneficiaries with 92 SC and 46 SC points respectively.
A dirty night for Jamie Overton. Only 14 SC points. 2 highly expensive overs with the ball.
Returning wicketkeepers looked in nice touch.
Inglis (batting at 4) and Carey (opening the batting) looked in nice touch and could interest POD hunters at the perpetually tricky keeper spot.
