Basketball Forever founder and currently 8th ranked NBA Supercoach player, Alex Sumsky, goes through the best Buy, Hold, and Sell options for week 16
NBAEveryone’s favourite time of the week where I pretend to know what’s going to happen in the next 7 days of NBA Supercoach based on player form, injury news, upcoming schedules and an intimate knowledge of 2010’s basketball. Is that all relevant? Only time will tell.
Nikola Jokic (DEN, C)
Our man strolled back into SuperCoach after 6 weeks out with a cruisy 123-point effort from just 3 games, let’s see what he can do with a 5-gamer this week.
Yes, he’s the most expensive player in the game, but I still can’t get my head around his ownership sitting at less than 30%.
Spend the money, get him on your roster, and then work out everything else around him.
Kawhi Leonard (LAC, SF/PF)
Did the Clippers lose their second and third-best players in trades last week?
Yes, yes, they did. Did Kawhi lead all SuperCoach scorers with 134 points last week? Yes, yes he did.
Is that a coincidence? No, no its not.
At some point, we’ll see new additions Darius Garland and Bennedict Mathurin on the court with Leonard, but until then, it’s essentially Kawhi, John Collins, and a bunch of fodder carrying the offensive burden.
Between the ever-present chance of injury and the potential of late-season tanking from the Clippers, there’s every likelihood this won’t be a rest-of-the-season addition, but let’s enjoy it while it lasts.
Austin Reaves (LAL, SG/PG)
Like Jokic, another SuperCoach darling is returning from a long-term injury.
Reaves started his first few games back coming off the bench but still delivered a very handy 70 SC points, and his returns will keep going up as he gets minutes in the legs…which hopefully starts this week!
Luka looks likely to miss at least one game, so we should see Austin slot back into a nice primary role and cover his $15M price tag.

Donovan Clingan (POR, C)
There hasn’t been a lot of SuperCoach value on the Blazers roster outside of Deni Avdija this season, but big Donovan Clingan has started to put together a nice little run that could force him onto your watchlist.
He’s very quietly a top 20 player over the last 5 weeks with an average of 81 SC points per week, thanks largely to a league-leading 13.3 rebounds per game.
He’s certainly hurt slightly as a single position Centre, meaning you’d need to use up your Flex slot for him, assuming you might already have Jokic or Wemby, but if there’s $13.8M burning a hole in your pocket, then he’s worth a dip.
GG Jackson (MEM, PF/SF)
We love a bargain pick here at SC Playbook, and GG Jackson looks like he might get a nice little run now that the Grizz have packed Jaren Jackson Jr off to Utah.
GG tallied 81 SC points in Week 15 and averaged 14 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Not mind-blowing numbers but more than enough to make his $6.85M price tag look like a steal.
Luka Doncic (LAL, PG)
He’s going to be among the most dropped players this week, which is understandable as he eats up $21M in salary cap and is guaranteed to miss at least one game.
I’m still going to nominate Luka as a Hold on the hope we get 4 games from him, which a) means we can keep up trade up the sleeve to be used elsewhere and b) likely be enough points to stay amongst the top 10-15 scoring players for the week anyway.
Donovan Mitchell / James Harden (CLE)
Two top-tier SuperCoach players that love the ball in their hands and are going to have to work out who runs the show when they share the court.
If you don’t have either Donovan or Harden in your lineup, I wouldn’t rush to bring them in this week and give them some time to figure things out.
That said, if you do have either of them already, then it kind of seems like a waste of a trade to get rid of them in a week where they play 5 games, so whichever side of the fence you’re on, I’d probably stay there for now.

Jaylen Brown (BOS, SF/SG)
We’ll blame this sell on the Celtics playing just the 3 games this week, but if you have a look under the hood at Jaylen’s numbers, he’s actually had a relatively quiet month or so.
Outside of a 113 SC point effort back in Week 13, Brown hasn’t gone above 80 points in the last 5 weeks.
It’s hard to fault him in the real world as he’s led Boston into an unlikely tie for 2nd in the East, but we live in the world of SuperCoach where $16M players are as interchangeable as underpants…weekly.
Scottie Barnes (TOR, SF/PG)
Scottie’s appearance in the Sell column is purely schedule-based with the Raptors joining Boston as the only teams with 3 games this week, while Toronto also only play 3 games forWeek 17 & 18 as well.
Barnes is amongst the elite SC players in the game, ranking 5th overall, so this isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you soon.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC, PG)
How about the big names on the chopping block this week!
Top-ranked Shai, 5th-ranked Barnes, and could very easily have had 6th ranked Luka here as well.
SGA has been ruled out until at least after the All-Star break, which means there’s 32% of SuperCoaches with a big gap to fill for Week 15.
Maxey, Murray, Mitchell, Brunson, and Harden are some of the PG eligible players that have 5 games this week, so we should be able to patch something together for a week or so until we have an update on Shai’s health.
