Former NRL Supercoach champion Dez Creek reveals his full round 1 squad with analysis for the 2026 NRL season.

He’s been there, he’s done it.

The 2019 NRL Supercoach champion Dezzy Creek isn’t orthodox, but the man knows how to succeed at the great game.

Below he’s dropped his starting squad for the 2026 NRL Supercoach season.

Hooker

Harry Grant

Grant just seems to be a reasonable starting price for the first time in a long time.

He’s going to make a bunch of tackles just like every other hooker, but you can also lock in a few attacking stats as well that come by default when you go for as many probing runs in enemy territory as Melbourne’s crafty maestro does.

Brandon Smith

Recent news of a minor injury which will result in Smith missing the first few rounds doesn’t deter me off him.

Near enough to basement dollar and running game looked sharp in trials makes it extremely hard to fade him, though Mahoney looks a great option if you have the funds.

Front-row

Payne Haas

Absolute monster who simply cannot be stopped on his day (which is becoming most days).

It’s good to have that guy in your team you can reliably captain from rounds 1 all the way to 27 and this is quite simply that guy. Pay up and get on with it..

Toby Couchman

Sitting at just under 590k I believe Couchman to be underpriced to start the season on what should be a comfortable 70 average sort of role for the Dragons enforcer. Dual 2RF status definitely also adds some flexibility in and around this selection, however it’s hard to see how it goes wrong barring injury.

Jesse Colquhoun

Sort of awkwardly priced to start the season given we don’t truly know the pack minutes for any teams yet, but we can take an educated guess that Colquhoun will get somewhere between 40 and 50 and should score SuperCoach points accordingly. Easy playable option over the opening month while you work on upgrades in tougher scoring positions.

Myles Martin

Basement price with 2RF dual? Don’t mind if I do. It feels like positional interoperability is going to be more critical than ever this season, so there’s no real reason to be going for basement price players who don’t have dual status in the front row.

2RF

Isaah Yeo

For 610k you’re buying one of the most consistent assets in SuperCoach, it’s a god damn steal. Yeo will not only make boatloads of tackles but he will also jag attacking stats here and there just by acting as a crucial cog in the Penrith try scoring machine.

Cameron Murray

Obviously still concerns over minutes and injury return, though for me he’s had plenty of time off and a full pre-season under his belt which should mean the return of prime Cam Murray in no time. Expecting 50 tackles a game baseline from Murray with the odd attacking stat thrown in for good measure, irresistible at 548k.

David Fifita

485k for this man seems like a fever dream. Seriously though, what did we do to deserve such an easy round 1 pickup in the 2RF? If you don’t have him in your team to start after watching the trial then you’re not playing the game seriously.

Trey Mooney

Initially didnt have this man in, but after being selected in the starting 13 already for Vegas it’s hard to see this selection backfiring. He has high PPM and should average around 55-60 every week with no dramas, which is invaluable over the opening month.

Joshua Patston

Really liked what I saw from the Titans in pre-season. Patston looked great up until he got concussed. If he were to lock down an edge spot then he would likely quickly rise from 25% ownership up towards 50%.

Cooper Bai

Impressed with both running game and ball playing ability in the trials. Should he secure decent minutes it’s hard to see where it goes wrong. Should be steady guaranteed price rises from him over the opening months.

Halfback

Nathan Cleary

I say it every season, but I’m simply happy to lock in the best halfback in the world to start the year – just in case he starts off with a point to prove. Also provides you a strong upside Captaincy proposition against weaker defences.

Ethan Sanders

Confirmed to have the goal kicking which gives him the slight scoring floor edge over Atkinson who is the other main cheapie halfback option to start the season. I’m not expecting fireworks, but I am expecting fairly safe and consistent price rises.

Five-eighth

Jaxon Purdue

Absolutely love that we can grab a borderline CTW gun from last season in the 5/8 position to start this one. We saw enough from Purdue last season that you can comfortably play him in your 17 week on week and he will average out to around 60 odd over time with the odd 20 thrown in with the odd 120. I’ll take it.

Jonah Pezet

Should make money fairly quickly and quietly to start the season. I expect Pezet to chug along in the background until he’s hopefully between 400-500k and ready to sell to a gun.

Centre-wing

Herbie Farnworth

There’s just no universe I go without this guy for a single week in my SuperCoach team this season after what he served up in 2025.

By far and away the best CTW in the game, and hard to see that changing any time soon. Hard to not see Herbie tacklebusting and offloading his way to another 85+ average season.

KL Iro

Again, just wasn’t going without him to start the year after what he served up week after week last season.

Any centre with the ability to score 8 or 9 games out of 10 should borderline be locked straight into everyone’s starting side to begin the year.

Latrell Mitchell

Not overthinking this one. He’s reasonably priced and goal kicking in what people are predicting is going to be a South Sydney team thats pushing for the 8 and starting the season as hard and fast as any team.

Tom Chester

Has been locked into a starting centre spot in Vegas and that’s good enough for me.

Despite concerns that he might only survive in the team a few weeks, I think he’s a sharp and zippy player who could easily keep hold of the spot if he produces anywhere near his best. If not then can easily rotate to another cheapie before price rises.

Heamasi Makasini

Looked like a freight train at times during the trials and should see plenty of attacking ball on that Tigers left edge outside the out and out guns that are Taylan May and Jarome Luai. Big yes.

Siale Faeamani

Basement price and looked like a strong ball carrier during trials. Hopefully can turn into a Marzhew or Kiraz type player where he doesn’t need attacking stats to score well.

Setu Tu

Seems to have won the starting spot at the Dragons which should guarantee him at least one decent score over the opening few rounds and lock in a few early price rises in the CTW.

Fullback

Keano Kini

I have a few concerns over the way he was throwing himself at the defence during trials matches.

There’s definitely a world where someone lines up and irons Kini out. He’s a great player but obvious durability questions loom which we could see play out earlier than many coaches may believe.

Sua Fa’alogo

Looked right at home during trials and should see similar sorts of ceilings as Papenhuyzen minus the goal kicking.

You can just see he has that ability to slip into gaps and accelerate away with decent amounts of tacklebusting power.

Flex

Pat Carrigan

I’m happy to pick a flex who I’m going to get what I’m paying for points wise to start the season.

Why risk it on a player who may or may not score 70+ per week when you can lock one in whose name is Pat Carrigan?

He should see plenty of tackles thrown in with a few offloads here and there to keep SuperCoaches happy.
