Final Word | NBA Supercoach Week 19, Trades, Skippers, Strategy

Supercoach veteran Stephen Defries reveals his trades, captains and point of difference players to consider for NBA Supercoach week 19

NBA

Game week 18 was the “Did you captain Wemby or Doncic?” week!

Wemby led all scorers for the week with a mammoth 168.

The Spurs just look so good, and the big Frenchman is at the centre of everything.

Luka wasn’t too far behind with 143, rounding out a solid week for the Slovenian.

To those who held Amen Thompson, including yours truly, we were handsomely rewarded with the 3rd highest score of the week.

Kawhi Leonard 131 and KAT 129 rounded out the top 5.

Popular trade-ins KD, Cade, KPJ, Jalen Brown, Kuminga, and Sengun all underwhelmed through poor play or injury.

POD pickups, Banchero, and Bane delivered a nice return for owners.

With a score of 1,176, ‘The Closers’ were finally able to make up some ground and move into 641st.

With the Bane move paying off, we will look to hit another POD play this week with a top 300 finish still within reach.

Guns

Giannis returned from injury, but as I warned last week, he was on a minutes restriction and zero chance of playing in a back-to-back.

It’s the same case this week. 4 games with 1 back-to-back, making him a no go for me.

Philadelphia have 5 games this week, but unfortunately, news has filtered through that Maxey will miss a minimum of 2 games with a finger injury, making him a sell/avoid.

Joker, Cade, and Kawhi have 4 games this week and are easy holds.

Most sold JJ last week on a 2-game week, and with 3 games this week, I’d be waiting before bringing him back.

I would be holding Wemby.

Midrange

Donovan Mitchell and James Harden become relevant again with 4 games this week.

I think you can only afford to have one in your team as Cleveland follow this week with 2 weeks of 3 games.

Houston have 3 games this week, but finish the season out with 4 games each week, making Durant, Sengun, and Thompson potential holds.

It’s a roll of the dice, which of the 3 will produce for you on any given night.

Sengun has the highest ceiling but is very inconsistent, while Durant has had a dip in production of late.

Antman now has a good run of games; however, he is listed as questionable a lot with a rest on the cards at any moment.

Jamal Murray will be a popular choice, but is nursing an ankle injury. Make sure you watch team lists.

Scottie Barnes hasn’t been relevant in weeks, but is a nice trade this week with a 4-game week.

KPJ has missed 3 games, and there isn’t much news on his status, making him a potential sell.

KAT finally delivered a good week for owners, but I couldn’t go near him after how inconsistent he is game to game.

You could take a flier on Raynaud, however, there isn’t a lot of trust in what the Kings will do with their rotation moving forward.

Cheapies

With teams starting to tank and get funky with their lineups, there are cheapies emerging everywhere.

At the top end of the market, you could look at a Reed Shephard or Precious Achiuwa.

If your looking for a large downgrade, then Julian Reece, Hugo Gonzalez, or Isaiah Jackson could be options.

At this point of the season, however, I don’t mind a downgrade to a bottom-dollar nuff.

It’s time to cash in and splash on a premium starting 10.

POD’s and Super POD’s

Jalen Duran DET – 4.0% owned

Under-owned due to being available at centre only, you would need to take a punt on running without either Joker or Wemby.

Maybe this is the week with Wemby on 2 games.

James Harden CLE – 1.7% owned

I had to double-check this. Missed some time with a hand injury, but has looked very comfortable next to Mitchell.

The Harden Honeymoon continues.

Quinten Grimes PHI – 0.1% owned

Shoutout to the 1 player in the top 10% who owns Grimes.

When Maxey missed the end of last season with a broken hand, Grimes exploded.

This included a 46-point game, and he scored 20-plus points in 9 of his last 11 games in 2024/25.

With the chance of no VJ Edgecombe, this could be the POD play of the year.
