AFL Supercoach | Niko’s Watchlist: Buy, Hold, Sell round 2

AFL Supercoach expert Niko gives his best buy, hold and sell candidates heading into round 2 of AFL Supercoach

AFL

Run of the mill score for me in round 1 with a 2270.

Round 2 has historically been a non-trade week, but this opening round nonsense means some player prices are adjusting.

With that in mind, let’s see who you need to buy, hold, and sell.

Buy

Lachie Jaques ($119,900 Western Bulldogs DEF, B/E -96)

In the coaches’ votes (assuming by Bevo), so that’s a huge positive for his job security.

If he keeps putting up 80 scores, he’ll go up $150k in no time.

On the bubble, meaning his price will go up significantly this weekend.

Jai Serong ($119,900 Sydney DEF, B/E -63)

A couple of decent scores will have his price rise this weekend.

Job security seems good with good time on ground (TOG) also.

Playing wing, so I expect his scores to be up and down, but he’ll be a good cash cow for us.

Leonardo Lombard ($119,900 Gold Coast FWD, B/E -56)

Looks cemented in the Suns’ best 23 and 93% TOG is fantastic.

Another easy matchup this weekend against the Tigers, and on the bubble.

Buy now before he goes up $50k.

Christian Petracca ($522,300 Gold Coast MID-FWD, B/E -26)

Trac is the must-have premium player on the breakevens.

If you didn’t start, you’re behind on points but not cash.

I’m expecting him to tear up the Tigers at the MCG and go up $70k+ this weekend.

Hold

Jagga Smith ($119,900 Carlton MID, B/E -110)

The must-have rookie player on the breakevens.

Absolute ball magnet who will probably be the biggest money maker we get.

However, there’s no reason to buy him now as he’s on the bye and his price won’t adjust until after the next round.

Have a plan to get him in next week.

Milan Murdock ($99,100 West Coast MID, B/E -72)

I started this guy, and I’m bloody rapt, but wait until he’s on the bubble to trade him in.

Mature age recruit who warrants a plan to bring him in next week, as he should play most games.

Jack Carroll ($119,900 St Kilda MID, B/E -45)

The old: if you own hold; if you don’t own, don’t trade him in.

Job security is shaky, and he’s not scoring the best either.

I expect Stoker to really push for his place in the side.

Tanner Bruhn ($276,800 Geelong MID, B/E -44)

The one player I regret not starting.

Saw a CBA spike with Worpel out, and looks like there’s no real concerns with role, fitness, or touch.

On the bubble next week, so plan ahead as you’ll want him.

Michael Sellwood ($119,900 Western Bulldogs DEF, B/E -40)

If you own hold, if you don’t ignore.

Job security looks shaky, and another poor performance could see him get dropped.

Connor Budarick ($245,700 Western Bulldogs FWD, B/E -39)

A forward eligible player playing defence is great, but his scoring hasn’t been great.

Once again, I don’t think I’d buy right now, but hold if you do have him like me.

Joe Fonti ($298,000 GWS Giants DEF, B/E -33)

119 and 83 to start the season is great, and he’s playing off half-back and on the bubble.

I just wonder if there are too many mouths to feed back there with Whitfield and Ash in the same role.

I’d still prefer Bruhn and Budarick at cheaper prices.

Brayden Cook ($158,700 Adelaide MID-FWD, B/E -31)

Brilliant first-up match of the season, but there’s absolutely zero reason to go early here, unless you’ve missed a lot of must-haves and need to make more than three trades next week.

Mattaes Phillipou ($168,400 St Kilda FWD, B/E 2)

Got a corkie to his quad and listed as a test to play this week.

Injury-prone player who hopefully will start to show his best very soon.

I like the player and the role.

Andrew Brayshaw ($616,400 Fremantle MID, B/E 188)

Wow, what a stinker for those who started him.

Role looked totally fine as he was the number one midfielder with 82% CBA’s.

Give him another chance, as it won’t cost you.

Brodie Grundy ($677,900 Sydney RUC, B/E 183)

Tough call, but back in your premium to bounce back.

Marathon, not a sprint, and you should save trades where you can and not flip-flop between premiums who aren’t injured.

The Horne-Francis rule of 2025.

Lachie Whitfield ($599,200 GWS Giants DEF, B/E 166)

92DT and 70SC are hugely disappointing for us owners, but I’m expecting a bounce back score up against the Saints, who love conceding big points to half-backs.

Sell

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera ($622,300 St Kilda DEF, B/E 201)

Last chance to switch to Sinclair before their prices go in opposite directions.

Two matches, two tags, and two poor scores.

He’ll get off the chain at some point, but his price could fluctuate heavily this season, starting with a massive drop.

Errol Gulden ($566,600 Sydney MID, B/E 96)

Disaster for Errol, the Swans, and us, out for 4 months with a shoulder injury.

Was looking like every bit the uber premium we wanted him to be, too.

Sell now or perhaps wait a week if you prefer Holmes or Nick Daicos as his replacement.
